Zbrodnia (2014)
All this running??!
The lead investigator's role was totally unbelievable!
He's supposed to be the prototypical divorced, burnout alcoholic cop whose career accolades are the only reason he hasn't been fired or forced into retirement. Except....this dude's like 12 years old! He doesn't look like a grizzled veteran! Not his baby face, his attire, his squinting eyes, or his flat expressions....none of it suggested that he is drunk & sleep-deprived. Homeboy just looked like he has allergies!!
Besides the poor casting, another head-scratcher was all the damn running! This guy would roll up on every scene jogging, but never got sweaty or out of breath. In one scene, Detective Gump arrives (via his police cruiser) at the home of a key witness, presumably at least 1 hour after she left the scene....but he still ran around looking for her. Literally...he ran. And then ran some more from Location to location like a bloodhound finding a scent.
What was wrong with his car? Are there no taxis or other cruisers available??
I just couldn't take the show seriously after seeing him do it nearly 20 times in the first two episodes.
Tell Me Your Secrets: Once I Had a Love (2021)
Absurdly unbelievable
I understand that sometimes you have to suspend disbelief to become fully engrossed in a storyline, but c'mon bro!
That whole diner scene (Episode 1) with the teenage foster girl who acted like a 7 year old was beyond ridiculous. To the point that it seemed as if no one involved has ever been around teenagers before. It was also insanely obvious why the scene was shoe-horned in. I find it baffling that a director would ever choose THAT to be a major catalyst for the plot. It only got worse as they continued to "develop" that cartoonish relationship.
Most of the relationship dynamics were goofy and poorly written, but this was by far the worst. It's not really that the acting itself is bad, just that there is no attempt to make the events, conversations, or bonds natural. The montage/cut scenes are downright laughable.
This is like a bad Lifetime movie without the tongue-in-cheek understanding of it's own ridiculousness. Unless that's what this is meant to be...If that's the case - it's brilliantly bad! (And I'll change my review accordingly)
Broadchurch (2013)
Love it
An excellent plot with superb acting and character development. Usually, in these small community dramas, where seemingly everyone is involved, things can get pretty convoluted and confusing unless you binge watch. Somehow this show manages to intertwine so much detail without this being the case.
The acting is so on point, I don't think I'll ever be able to see these actors as any other role than who they were in this series.
Love, Death & Robots: Alternate Histories (2019)
Terrible
Every other episode I could at least understand how someone else night enjoy it even though the plot & animation of a few did little to intrigue me. This one was just so uncreative & unfunny with animation that wasn't in the least bit appealing. I seriously am confused how anyone convinced Netflix that this should make the cut for the series. There must've been some serious competition....so how did this juvenile mess pass the bar?
