Its always a few that pop up out of nowhere that you have to see, but for these 15 movies, they have my initial seal of approval, lol. Since everyone knows I watch a billion movies, a lot of people are always asking me what's good at the theaters and this should be a great guide to 2011 movies for you! Also, I know I had 15, but I added 2 more for good measures. So yes, I see that I put 15. Enjoy it!

1. X: First Class (2011)

PG-13 | 131 min | Action, Sci-Fi

65 Metascore

In the 1960s, superpowered humans Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr work together to find others like them, but Erik's vengeful pursuit of an ambitious mutant who ruined his life causes a schism to divide them.

Director: Matthew Vaughn | Stars: James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Kevin Bacon

Votes: 723,593 | Gross: $146.41M

Of course im gonna start with a superhero movie, lol. I didnt really enjoy X-men or "The Last Stand" as much as X2:X-men United(and were not even gonna bring up Origins:Wolverine..smh), but im actually excited to see this one. Seems they finally went and got quality actors and the trailer looks pretty good. Hopefully, since its a period piece, they dont over-do it with effects and just tell a great story. And am I the only one currently in a deep fascination with January Jones?

2. Paul (2011)

R | 104 min | Adventure, Comedy, Sci-Fi

57 Metascore

Two English comic book geeks traveling across the U.S. encounter an alien outside Area 51.

Director: Greg Mottola | Stars: Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Seth Rogen, Mia Stallard

Votes: 266,089 | Gross: $37.41M

Seems that since 2008, the studios lost interest in Seth Rogen-type comedies. The Red-Band trailer made this look funny and should hopefully get back to the typical gross-out, unapologetic humor since its being directed by Superbad director Greg Mottola. Throw in Shaun of the Dead stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, and I think you got a solid comedy!

3. Super (I) (2010)

R | 96 min | Action, Comedy, Crime

50 Metascore

After his wife falls under the influence of a drug dealer, an everyday guy transforms himself into Crimson Bolt, a superhero with the best intentions, but lacking in heroic skills.

Director: James Gunn | Stars: Rainn Wilson, Elliot Page, Liv Tyler, Kevin Bacon

Votes: 83,695 | Gross: $0.32M

This is pretty much 2011's "Kick-Ass", and that's in no means a bad thing. I loved Kick-Ass so much and I thought it actually created a sub-genre for the Superhero movies....Real-world heroes, lol.Stars Rainn Wilson as a husband whose drug addicted wife(Liv Tyler) goes crawling back to her..pharmaceutical-dealing ex(Kevin Bacon), infuriating him so much he decides to try his hand at being a hero. And thats not the best part...how about Ellen Page as his violent-happy sidekick?....Is that not enough to make all movie-heads wanna see this, lol?

4. Your Highness (2011)

R | 102 min | Action, Adventure, Comedy

31 Metascore

When Prince Fabious's bride is kidnapped, he goes on a quest to rescue her... accompanied by his lazy useless brother Thadeous.

Director: David Gordon Green | Stars: Danny McBride, Natalie Portman, James Franco, Rasmus Hardiker

Votes: 104,433 | Gross: $21.60M

Only those close to me know how much I loved "Pineapple Express"(and the movie,LMAO!). The chemistry between the characters in that movie was tremendous, and obviously bringing James Franco, Danny McBride, and director David Gordon Green over from that project to this premise seems promising enough..then you get to drool over Natalie Portman as well. The comedy aspect of this project has me very optimistic that this could be a high-grossing comedy, especially with the critical response it will get now with Portman winning an Oscar and Franco being nominated. Some of the early reviews I read said it was a bit stale, but honestly, most critics said the same of Pineapple Express and Green's other project, "Eastbound and Down". I think they appeal to a certain audience...and Im one of them!

5. Scream 4 (2011)

R | 111 min | Comedy, Horror, Mystery

52 Metascore

Ten years have passed, and Sidney Prescott, who has put herself back together thanks in part to her writing, is visited by the Ghostface Killer.

Director: Wes Craven | Stars: Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette, Lucy Hale

Votes: 171,170 | Gross: $38.18M

I Love Horror movies...wait...let me rephrase. I LOVE Horror movies...that are done properly. I was about 11 when the first "Scream" was released and I remember being immensely glued to the plot since that was one of the first "WhoDunIt" horror movies I had seen. I loved it. "Scream 2" was ok(Still havent found a horror scene that chills me more than Randy's death scene in the van), and "Scream 3" kinda lost a bit of touch, though it still had me interested the whole film. And even though a most of his recent horror films havent hit their mark, Horror God Wes Craven still has my respect. And due to the horrible market for good horror movies(seriously, the last movie to genuinely put me on the edge of my seat in the theater was the "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" remake, I have faith that this will hit its mark.

6. Fast Five (2011)

PG-13 | 130 min | Action, Crime, Thriller

66 Metascore

Dominic Toretto and his crew of street racers plan a massive heist to buy their freedom while in the sights of a powerful Brazilian drug lord and a dangerous federal agent.

Director: Justin Lin | Stars: Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Jordana Brewster

Votes: 407,097 | Gross: $209.84M

So is this just the most testosterone-overdosed movie ever, lol? Vin Diesel, The Rock(Dwayne Johnson), Ludacris, Paul Walker, Tyrese, a billion muscle cars im sure, and of course beautiful women that will pop up somewhere in every scene every 2 seconds, lol. But while I wasnt excited to see the last one, it was pretty solid. This one will probably be the highest-grossing of all the Fast and Furious films, along with being a crowd favorite since its bringing back everyone whos been in the series(including my favorite character of the entire "FaF" series, yet deceased, "Han").

7. Thor (2011)

PG-13 | 115 min | Action, Fantasy

57 Metascore

The powerful but arrogant god Thor is cast out of Asgard to live amongst humans in Midgard (Earth), where he soon becomes one of their finest defenders.

Director: Kenneth Branagh | Stars: Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Hopkins, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston

Votes: 900,091 | Gross: $181.03M

Obviously, you can tell im really into Superhero/comic movies. But this one, I will see because im more so intrigued than excited. While the character Thor needs no intro to the comic community, it will be interesting to see how they transition him to the big screen. Thor's comic universe is based on mythology partially and to people who arent really into comics or superheroes, that can come off as boring(at least there's guaranteed eye candy in Oscar winner Natalie Portman). I want them to stay true to the comics as well, but my optimism wears a bit thin after I think about Thor's villians. And while the studio will get my $10 regardless(yes, its $10 for a movie ticket here in Nashville,TN), I just hope they dont water down this great character.

8. The Hangover Part II (2011)

R | 102 min | Comedy

44 Metascore

Two years after the bachelor party in Las Vegas, Phil, Stu, Alan, and Doug jet to Thailand for Stu's wedding. Stu's plan for a subdued pre-wedding brunch, however, goes seriously awry.

Director: Todd Phillips | Stars: Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis, Ed Helms, Justin Bartha

Votes: 534,584 | Gross: $254.46M

Of course im gonna put this on here, lol. While the first one did not appeal to me as much as others(its not the best comedy of all time in my book, but still near the top), It was still a great comedy that moved at pace so fast you could never really catch your breath before something else happened...and that was what made it so great to me. But this project might just outdo the surprises from the first(Mel Gibson-gate, possible Charlie Sheen cameo, Zach Galafanakis with a shaved head with that beard I hate so much, returning Mike Tyson, and in a Foreign country?) this could be another one that makes Todd Phillips rich.

9. Super 8 (2011)

PG-13 | 112 min | Action, Mystery, Sci-Fi

72 Metascore

During the summer of 1979, a group of friends witness a train crash and investigate subsequent unexplained events in their small town.

Director: J.J. Abrams | Stars: Elle Fanning, AJ Michalka, Kyle Chandler, Joel Courtney

Votes: 367,509 | Gross: $127.00M

I was extremely pleased with Cloverfield from producer J.J. Abrams. While he didnt direct that, he is directing this. And while I havent immersed myself in Lost(yet!), I have confidence that he can continue this "First-Person Disaster Horror" genre. I actually like movies and shows filmed from this perspective. It can really pull you closer into the story if you let it. And while the premise seems like a carbon copy of "Cloverfield", you cant help but be pulled in by the trailer to find out what the monster is. Hopefully if this does good, this will give Abrams and director Matt Reeves a reason to do the Cloverfield sequel.

10. Green Lantern (2011)

PG-13 | 114 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

39 Metascore

Reckless test pilot Hal Jordan is granted an alien ring that bestows him with otherworldly powers that inducts him into an intergalactic police force, the Green Lantern Corps.

Director: Martin Campbell | Stars: Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Mark Strong

Votes: 296,109 | Gross: $116.60M

Ok, I know some people might not know about Green Lantern. But for comic geeks(Unite!), this character can really save the genre if they dont screw it up. Hal Jordan posses a ring that can create a solid shape of whatever he thinks and he attempts to use this power for good. After seeing Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, I think he can pull off Green Lantern without issues. This could really open the doors for the DC Universe if it does well. Hopefully, they will give lesser-known heroes the big screen treatment if this one doesnt fail. Though there are reports that it didnt test well....(really?)

11. Bad Teacher (2011)

R | 92 min | Comedy, Romance

47 Metascore

A lazy, incompetent middle school teacher who hates her job, her students, and her co-workers is forced to return to teaching to make enough money for breast implants after her wealthy fiancé dumps her.

Director: Jake Kasdan | Stars: Cameron Diaz, Jason Segel, Justin Timberlake, Lucy Punch

Votes: 212,640 | Gross: $100.29M

This could really turn out to be the surprise comedy of 2011, similar to how "Knocked Up" surprised me in 2007. I mean,c'mon, Cameron Diaz as a dickish teacher who drinks, curses, and smokes pot? Ill take a chance on that, lol. Not to mention one of the most underrated actors in Hollywood, Jason Segal, and Justin Timerlake as the substitute who Diaz wants to woo. The Red Band trailer was hilarious...hopefully they didnt put all the funny stuff in the trailer. This could really win Diaz back her following from "There's Something about Mary" if this is done right.

12. Transformers: Dark of the Moon (2011)

PG-13 | 154 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

42 Metascore

The Autobots learn of a Cybertronian spacecraft hidden on the moon, and race against the Decepticons to reach it and to learn its secrets.

Director: Michael Bay | Stars: Shia LaBeouf, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Tyrese Gibson, Josh Duhamel

Votes: 432,014 | Gross: $352.39M

To a lot of my friends dismay, I did not enjoy the first alot(numerous plot holes) and the second one was just a disaster that to me seemed to be saved from the beautiful special effects(aka *beep* covered in Gold, lmao). But unfortunately, if you see the 1st and 2nd of a supposed trilogy, youre gonna be tempted to see the last, lol. Im hopeful that this could at least take the bad taste out of my mouth from the first 2. And with a plot that seems to have a few battles in outer space, hopefully that means we get alot more fights with just the Transformers only instead of Tyrese tapping on Optimus Prime's knee every second asking "which one of yall robots are good and which aren't?",lol. Sorry...I Digress...But no Megan Fox back(thank god; though she is gorgeous, there isnt an acting bone in her body. How many movies has she crashed and burned so far?), Shia LaBeof seems focused since he knows this is going to be his last, and Michael Bay will surely try to set the record for most explosions in a film with this being the last(hopefully!).

13. Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)

PG-13 | 124 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

66 Metascore

Steve Rogers, a rejected military soldier, transforms into Captain America after taking a dose of a "Super-Soldier serum". But being Captain America comes at a price as he attempts to take down a warmonger and a terrorist organization.

Director: Joe Johnston | Stars: Chris Evans, Hugo Weaving, Samuel L. Jackson, Hayley Atwell

Votes: 896,712 | Gross: $176.65M

Obviously as you guys can see, this year and the next is all about superheroes in Hollywood. But this one seems to be the safest bet to succeed at the box office. Everyone knows Captain America and as long as director Joe Johnson doesn't butcher this as he did with "The Wolfman" last year, this should be the start of a great franchise. Cap had some great villians(and how about casting Hugo Weaving from "The Matrix" as Red Skull? Just great Casting on that one. Not to mention his make-up for Red Skull looks amazing!) and with this starting back during the War era, they can bring him back to present day in a number of ways. Im a little cautious with casting Chris Evans, though he is a good actor. As long as they buff him up properly after the Super-Serum and he can fling a good shield, he should be ok,lol.

14. 30 Minutes or Less (2011)

R | 83 min | Action, Comedy, Crime

49 Metascore

Two fledgling criminals kidnap a pizza delivery guy, strap a bomb to his chest, and inform him that he has mere hours to rob a bank or else...

Director: Ruben Fleischer | Stars: Jesse Eisenberg, Danny McBride, Nick Swardson, Aziz Ansari

Votes: 106,629 | Gross: $37.05M

A funny cast with a plot that could go a number of ways. A pizza delivery guy(Jesse Eisenberg) is kidnapped by 2 criminals(one of them being Danny McBride) and is forced to rob a bank in 30 minutes.Intent im sure to be a comedy adventure, this could be a very funny movie. Aziz Ansari and Nick Swardson never disappoint in supporting roles and Eisenberg was great in the last 2 adventure/comedies he did(Zombieland,Adventureland). His work on those and of course the great "Social Network".

15. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 (2011)

PG-13 | 117 min | Adventure, Drama, Fantasy

45 Metascore

The Quileutes close in on expecting parents Edward and Bella, whose unborn child poses a threat to the Wolf Pack and the towns people of Forks.

Director: Bill Condon | Stars: Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, Gil Birmingham

Votes: 254,288 | Gross: $281.29M

Yes, I am a late-20s black male and I have seen all 3 Twilight movies...dont hold that against me. I was hoping it would surprise me. And believe me...im still waiting. I liked the first one but "New Moon" and "Eclipse" didnt really accomplish anything on screen, except for set the record for unnecessary shots of a kid with his shirt off...but I guess thats what makes you hundreds of millions of dollars. But I have already seen the first 3 so I unfortunately have to finish off the series. I dont really have an insightful reason to see this movie.

16. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011)

PG-13 | 136 min | Action, Adventure, Fantasy

45 Metascore

Jack Sparrow and Barbossa embark on a quest to find the elusive fountain of youth, only to discover that Blackbeard and his daughter are after it too.

Director: Rob Marshall | Stars: Johnny Depp, Penélope Cruz, Ian McShane, Geoffrey Rush

Votes: 564,056 | Gross: $241.06M

Another adventure with the infamous character created by Johnny Depp, Captain Jack Sparrow. I did not start watching the "Pirates" movies until 2007, so I actually got to watch the first 3 back to back and I gotta say, I like the directing style of Gore Verbinski, very fast paced and great performances by all, especially in "Dead Man's Chest". I had to watch "At World's End about 3 times to fully comprehend all the plot twists and turns toward the end. But once I did, the trilogy became a great adventure. Im a bit skeptical about the new cast, but with a story centering around the search for the Fountain of Youth, it should make for another great adventure this time around.

17. Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (2011)

PG-13 | 129 min | Action, Adventure, Mystery

48 Metascore

Detective Sherlock Holmes is on the trail of criminal mastermind Professor Moriarty, who is carrying out a string of random crimes across Europe.

Director: Guy Ritchie | Stars: Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, Jared Harris, Rachel McAdams

Votes: 480,397 | Gross: $186.85M

Robert Downey Jr...where do I begin? I just respect him and his craft so much because he really puts a personality to all of his characters thats so unique that its something special. Not to mention the way he redeemed himself in Hollywood not by talking or mass media apologizing, but rather letting his craft do the speaking. And his last few films have been great, especially Iron Man, Tropic Thunder, and 2009's Sherlock Holmes. While the story dragged a bit at times in his first go-around as Holmes, he still did well with the character and the movie managed to hold my attention. While I was more excited when there was talks of Brad Pitt playing Professor Moriarty(one of Sherlock Holmes' most known adversaries and an unseen villain from the first), im still ok with the casting choice of Jared Harris from "Mad Men". Returning stars Jude Law and Rachel McAdams and director Guy Ritchie give me faith this sequel will not disappoint.
