This is a list of movies that I have seen and loved. These types of movies left me thinking and recollecting the movie, figuring out what really happened and why people acted the way they did. In the end these movies left me thinking damn! That was awesome. Also it left me a tad confused and eager to research what was really going down.

I just had to send this movie to number one because really it is a masterpiece and set the stage for the thriller and horror genre. Stanley Kubrick, one of the greatest directors to grace the film world really put it all into this movie. Considering there is a whole documentary about the underlying meanings and themes about the movie, no question should this movie be number one. Whether considered a horror or thriller, regardless, it sets in an eerie and helpless tension throughout the movie. Good old Jack Nicholson is at his finest in this movie and does a great job act as a man too cooped up in a hotel. This movie is a true form of art and will definitely leave some questions when it is all said and done.

2. Mulholland Drive (2001)

R | 147 min | Drama, Mystery, Thriller

86 Metascore

After a car wreck on Mulholland Drive renders a woman amnesiac, she and a Hollywood-hopeful search for clues and answers across Los Angeles in a twisting venture beyond dreams and reality.

Director: David Lynch | Stars: Naomi Watts, Laura Harring, Justin Theroux, Jeanne Bates

Votes: 383,997 | Gross: $7.22M

If you want a challenge watching a movie I would recommend this gem. The directing by David Fynch is very precise and methodical. This whole movie has both depth and excitement, it kept me on my toes and wanting more. I would highly recommend this movie because it left me with so many questions and theories as to what really went on. For this movie as well, just watch it and pay close attention don't read any reviews or watch the trailer. The movie is just one you have to see raw.

3. The Game (1997)

R | 129 min | Drama, Mystery, Thriller

63 Metascore

After a wealthy San Francisco banker is given an opportunity to participate in a mysterious game, his life is turned upside down as he begins to question if it might really be a concealed conspiracy to destroy him.

Director: David Fincher | Stars: Michael Douglas, Deborah Kara Unger, Sean Penn, James Rebhorn

Votes: 429,583 | Gross: $48.32M

The Game for me was not so much a thinker just a movie that made me feel like it was never going to end. Which in this case is a good thing, the title sums up the whole thing, it is a game, but even going in with that mindset it rather easy to get tricked and be in the same mindset as the main character played by Michael Douglas. Directed by David Fincher it is simply a great thriller and a solid watch.

4. Donnie Darko (2001)

R | 113 min | Drama, Mystery, Sci-Fi

88 Metascore

After narrowly escaping a bizarre accident, a troubled teenager is plagued by visions of a man in a large rabbit suit who manipulates him to commit a series of crimes.

Director: Richard Kelly | Stars: Jake Gyllenhaal, Jena Malone, Mary McDonnell, Holmes Osborne

Votes: 850,329 | Gross: $1.48M

Donnie Darko is the definition of a trip. The ending like Mulholland Dr's is very open-ended and leaves the viewer wondering what just happened. I had to look into this one but really I had it figured out all along. Watching this movie I believe people will also understand the ending as well, and it is no disappointment. As for the ladies Gyllenhaal pulls off a stellar performance and Patrick Swayze also makes a notable appearance. The movie as a whole though is well written and has you both sympathize and question Donnie Darko's actions. It is a great movie to watch!

5. Fight Club (1999)

R | 139 min | Drama

67 Metascore

An insomniac office worker and a devil-may-care soap maker form an underground fight club that evolves into much more.

Director: David Fincher | Stars: Brad Pitt, Edward Norton, Meat Loaf, Zach Grenier

Votes: 2,325,158 | Gross: $37.03M

Although I have not seen Fight Club as of recently it is still a solid thriller and leaves the question of who was Tyler Durden, really? Brad Pitt and Edward Norton both perform exceptionally. David Fincher takes the reigns as the director making it one heck of a watch. One of the most quotable lines also goes to this movie. But I probably should not talk about and just let you see for yourself what the title is all about.

6. Memento (2000)

R | 113 min | Mystery, Thriller

83 Metascore

A man with short-term memory loss attempts to track down his wife's murderer.

Director: Christopher Nolan | Stars: Guy Pearce, Carrie-Anne Moss, Joe Pantoliano, Mark Boone Junior

Votes: 1,323,371 | Gross: $25.54M

Christopher Nolan definitely came out swinging with this gem. A very original and calculated plot the movie pulls you in almost immediately. Guy Pearce possesses both that grit and vengeance to seek "who done it" as well as the innocence, due to his condition to slip up. Whether you were a fan or not of Nolan's later work this movie without a doubt is a must see.

7. Prisoners (2013)

R | 153 min | Crime, Drama, Mystery

70 Metascore

When Keller Dover's daughter and her friend go missing, he takes matters into his own hands as the police pursue multiple leads and the pressure mounts.

Director: Denis Villeneuve | Stars: Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal, Viola Davis, Melissa Leo

Votes: 809,993 | Gross: $61.00M

Not only does this movie bring up a very interesting scenario for people to be in, but also it brings out quite a bit of emotion from satisfaction, to anger and also remorse it is a great movie that tugs at peoples emotional strings. Consisting of a strong cast such as Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal, Terence Howard, Viola Davis and Paul Dano it really makes this movie a very eerie, dark and suspenseful thriller. Although it may get slow at times I like to think of those times as periods for the viewer to formulate theories and hypothesize about what is going to happen. It also leaves you with the question of would you do the same things Jackman did to find your child. It is a very interesting movie and definitely worth the time to see!
