From one 1999 horror remake to another. After rewatching The Haunting with eyes that were both more critical and 25 years older, it got me thinking about the other remake that came out that year. One that was a remake of a far sillier movie and that was the first effort from a new studio, namely Dark Castle Entertainment. The original was from a far less dark castle in that of schlock and gimmick purveyor William Castle and it starred Vincent Price as a man offering strangers money to stay in an allegedly haunted house for a night. While The Haunting failed on multiple levels to improve with age, how does House on Haunted Hill (watch it Here) look after a quarter of a century? Does its cheesy yet graphic tone feel at home in the time of A24 and elevated horror or should it forfeit its 1 million dollar check and leave the cursed grounds forever.

Taylor Sheridan is undoubtedly one of the most powerful voices in the TV space with his shows being the flagship entries of the Paramount+ network. Yellowstone became a sensation in 2018 and it has spawned several spin-offs including 1883 and 1923. The show is Sheridan’s masterpiece and none of his other shows have ever come close to its impact on audiences.

Bring your pink suit to the dry cleaners because Legally Blonde is making a comeback, and you’ll want to dress to impress! According to Deadline, Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine company will partner with Amazon MGM Studios for a Legally Blonde spinoff TV series. The long-anticipated project comes from Gossip Girl writers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, who will also produce through their Fake Empire studio. Plot details remain a mystery, though Witherspoon’s involvement with the project gives me good vibes.
Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter will produce the Legally Blonde spinoff TV series via Hello Sunshine alongside Legally Blonde film producer Marc Platt. Deadline says there’s a chance we could get more than one spinoff series inspired by Legally Blonde, but details are fuzzier than the eraser toppers Elle Woods keeps in her purse.
Released in 2001, Legally Blonde stars Reese Witherspoon as Elle Woods, a fashionable sorority queen whom her boyfriend dumps.

For our third outing we’re here to explore the aftermath of the apocalypse with Resident Evil: Extinction (watch it Here). This one is pretty divisive with the consensus being some people, like myself, loved this film while others felt this was the beginning of the downward slope of sequels of the franchise. Hear me out as to why I sing its praises. For one, it tells a cohesive story and gives us a side of Alice that we’ve been dying to see. We get more new characters that bring gravitas to the story as well as a fully fleshed out villain and it’s a lot of fun. Plus, its pays homage to The Road Warrior in the best way. Dylan Mulvaney is dreaming big, and one of the characters she would like to play is Elle Woods from Legally Blonde.
In a recent interview, the singer and actress said that her dream theater role was to play Glinda in Wicked, but her “dream dream” was to portray the Harvard Law School student that Reese Witherspoon famously played in the 2001 film.
“My dream though is to do a trans Legally Blonde,” Mulvaney said in an interview with IMDb during SXSW. “I wanna play Elle Woods and have maybe a trans Emmett and a trans Paulette. And I think what’s so cool about plugging trans people into existing stories is it inherently changes what the topic is, but in a way that you don’t actually have to do much to the script because it becomes something different — but actually, I think it makes it even more powerful.”

The cast for the Billy Bob Thornton-led Landman from Taylor Sheridan on Paramount+ just added another heavy hitter to the cast.
Jon Hamm, who has been having a TV reawakening with roles on The Morning Show and Fargo and voice work on Grimsburg, has just joined the series in a recurring guest-starring role.
If you're a fan of Sheridan's productions, you know that might mean Hamm is on screen a lot or very little. Only time will tell.
Hamm's nuanced portrayal of adman Dan Draper on Mad Men put him at the top of everyone's list to work with, and he's reaping the rewards with roles that challenge his skills without pigeonholing the actor's talent.
When his name is added to a show, people pay attention, and his addition is an asset for an already stellar cast on Landman.

In January of 1999, two teen movies opened back to back and kicked off what would be one of the most extraordinary years for youth-oriented movies in the history of Hollywood. Both were No. 1 at the box office their first weekend. Both boasted remarkable casts of rising stars — they even shared a star in Paul Walker. And both whipped ancient genre conventions into new combinations that made them fresh and new. Yet for all their similarities, “Varsity Blues” and “She’s All That” couldn’t have been more different: one an R-rated sports drama that tempered its inspirational coming-of-age drama with surprisingly harsh depictions of misogyny and physical and mental abuse, the other a sweet, good-natured romantic comedy nearly as innocent as a Mickey Rooney-Judy Garland vehicle from the 1940s. In their similarities and differences lies the key to why 1999 was such a great year for movies of their type — the 1939 of teen movies.

Wallace currently plays the entrepreneurial Fiona Miller on Hallmark’s family-friendly drama When Calls the Heart. It sounds like she’ll be taking on a grittier role in Landman, which the streamer describes as “a modern-day tale of fortune-seeking in the world of oil rigs.” Wallace will play Rebecca Savage, a capable but intimidating liability attorney who is sent to West Texas to clean up a mess, TVLine reports.
“Thrilled. So grateful. Let’s Go!” Wallace wrote on Instagram after her casting was announced.
“Still pinching myself,” she added on her Instagram Story.

A long-awaited new series from Taylor Sheridan is staffing up and bringing a TV Fanatic favorite along for the ride.
Kayla Wallace (When Calls The Heart), James Jordan (Yellowstone), Mark Collie (Nashville), and Paulina Chávez (The Expanding Universe of Ashley Garcia) join Paramount+’s highly anticipated original drama series Landman as series regulars.
We can't count on much these days in the world of entertainment, but we can count on the partnership between Paramount+ and Taylor Sheridan.
Set in the proverbial boomtowns of West Texas, Landman, co-created by Oscar nominee Sheridan and Christian Wallace, is a modern-day tale of fortune-seeking in the world of oil rigs.
Based on the notable 11-part podcast “Boomtown,” the series is an upstairs/downstairs story of roughnecks and wildcat billionaires fueling a boom so big that it’s reshaping our climate, our economy, and our geopolitics.
Sheridan has previously said he wrote Landman with Billy Bob Thorton in mind,...

The Collector
If the triumphant return of the Saw franchise has you in the mood for more trap-laden horrors, look no further than The Collector — which was originally conceived as a prequel to Saw that would show Jigsaw’s original story. Back in the late 90’s, early 2000s the horror genre was in that weird phase of encapsulating what it truly wanted to be. Hot off the heels of Scream, horror movies focused much more on the teenage angst, and lifestyle. But there comes a time when some hidden gems make their way to the silver screen that branch off the beaten path with a more adult-themed tale, drenched in psychological/mental horror. What if one day you’re living your average life, working your 9-5, and suddenly black, out only to wake up, institutionalized and accused of committing a crime you can’t seem to remember doing?
