Update: The Chris Farley Show, a film adaptation of the book by the late SNL star’s brother Tom, is a go. Deadline is reporting that New Line Cinema has acquired the rights and is full steam ahead on what could be a potential Oscar-play for the studio.
Original Story: Cruella and Cobra Kai actor Paul Walter Hauser is going from voicing Embarrassment in Pixar’s upcoming sequel Inside Out 2 to living in a van down by the river for the lead role in Josh Gad’s Chris Farley biopic. After Deadline broke the news last week that New Line was in pole position to land the package A Chris Farley Story, the studio made it official today, having acquired the biopic starring Paul Walter Hauser as the legendary comedian. Josh Gad directs, with Lorne Michaels and Erin David producing via Broadway Video.
The pitch is based on the book by Farley’s brother Tom Farley Jr. and Tanner Colby and will be adapted by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber. This marks the second major package Warner Bros. has landed this week with the main studio acquiring Avengelyne which is being developed as a star vehicle for Margot Robbie.

New Line Cinema proved to be more highly motivated than the rest of its competition in landing the forthcoming Chris Farley biopic that is set to star Paul Walter Hauser as the late comedy legend.
The company has landed director Josh Gad’s film following a highly competitive situation. Hauser, a recent Emmy winner for his work in Apple TV+’s Black Bird, will star as Farley, the Saturday Night Live standout and star of such films as Tommy Boy who died of a drug overdose in 1997 at age 33.
Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber (The Disaster Artist, Daisy Jones & The Six) are writing the screenplay based on Tom Farley Jr. and Tanner Colby’s best-selling biography, The Chris Farley Show: A Biography in Three Acts. As one might expect, SNL alums David Spade and Dana Carvey have feelings about that upcoming Chris Farley biopic. The two SNL alums were, of course, colleagues and friends of Farley’s, and are understandably protective of his legacy.
“I don’t know how I’m…” Spade says hesitantly in a just-released episode of their Superfly podcast. “[I’m] a little ambivalent about it. I don’t know.”
“I had heard some whispers about this for a long time. I’ve run into this guy Paul,” Spade says of actor Paul Walter Hauser, who is set to star as Farley in the film. “He’s a very nice guy. I think he’s been wanting to do this for a while.”
Carvey voices tentative support for the project, saying “In all seriousness, I wish [Hauser] the best. I think it’s great.” But he also makes sure to note the difficulty of portraying someone like Farley.

Keanu Reeves has been a prolific movie star since the 90s and has been part of some of the most groundbreaking action films that Hollywood has seen. Films like Point Break, Speed, The Matrix, and the John Wick franchise have made him a bonafide action hero unafraid of getting his hands dirty and doing most of his stunts.

A biopic about the life of the late “Saturday Night Live” star Chris Farley is in the works, IndieWire has confirmed.
Emmy-winner Paul Walter Hauser is attached to star as Farley, and Josh Gad would direct the project. “SNL” producer Lorne Michaels is producing the feature biopic via his Broadway Video production banner. Gad, the Broadway star and “Frozen” actor, would make his feature directorial debut on the film.
Right now the project is just at the package stage and being presented to interested buyers looking to make it, but it surely will be an in-demand package that could go quickly and make this movie a reality sooner rather than later. It also helps that the Farley family has given its blessing to the project.

It’s one of the most iconic Saturday Night Live sketches of all time — and without Christina Applegate, it might never have happened at all.
Applegate recalled the role she played in getting the sketch on the air while chatting with Dana Carvey and David Spade on today’s episode of “Fly on the Wall,” the duo’s SNL-centric podcast.
Applegate first hosted SNL on May 8, 1993 — an episode most famous for the first appearance of Chris Farley’s motivational speaker character Matt Foley, aka the “Van Down by the River” guy.
In the infamous sketch, Farley’s over-the-top physical comedy quickly causes Applegate and Spade to break into laughter. They struggle to contain it for the rest of the scene, as Farley hikes his pants up, squats low, and destroys a coffee table with an explosive jump.

Lorne Michaels is an expert at celebrating the legacy of “Saturday Night Live.” The show’s creator has produced variety specials for the NBC program’s 15th anniversary, 25th anniversary and 40th anniversary, so the upcoming 50th season should have a highly entertaining spectacle. Nothing less than a three-hour event would be expected, but how else should “SNL” celebrate the golden anniversary season, which would begin in the autumn of 2024 and continue through May, 2025?
Here is our exciting, fun suggestion for a way to go above and beyond for the live special. Over the course of a 20-22 episode season, NBC would certainly have almost every episode featuring the current cast along with hot guest hosts and musical guests. However, for the other five episodes spread out over several months, devote an entire 90 minutes to each previous decade. Invite back the biggest cast members from a decade along with well-known guest hosts and music stars.

After Lucille Ball's spunky housewife Lucy signed off on the last episode of "I Love Lucy" but before Mary Tyler Moore did away with the nuclear family sitcom model with her own self-titled show, another actress was one of the faces of womanhood in comedy. Oscar-winning actress Donna Reed headlined "The Donna Reed Show" from 1958 to 1966, playing middle-class mother and housewife Donna Stone in the popular black-and-white series. Reed starred opposite Carl Betz, who played Donna's husband, pediatrician Dr. Alex Stone. In season 5, family friends Midge and Dave joined the fun, but for the most part, the show was all about the lighthearted hijinks of the Stone family.
Though "The Donna Reed Show" was popular upon release, it's now perhaps most often referenced as a pop cultural window into a time before second-wave feminism, when women were expected to spend their time cooking, cleaning, and child-rearing while men went to work.

Times have changed, and standards of humor have evolved. Thus, Saturday Night Live alum Dana Carvey has apologized to Sharon Stone for an “offensive” sketch when she hosted the show in 1992.
Carvey made his amends during Stone’s appearance on the Fly on the Wall With Dana Carvey and David Spade podcast.
Carvey called Stone “such a good sport” and said the comedy moment she appeared in, if aired today, “We would be literally arrested now.”
The sketch in question was titled Airport Security Sketch. Carvey was an Indian security guard and was part of a security team that instructed Stone to remove clothing in case she was carrying dangerous items.
“I want to apologize publicly for the security check sketch where I played an Indian man and we’re convincing Sharon, her character, or whatever, to take her clothes off to go through the security thing,” he said, adding,...

Barbie was easily the biggest movie of the year; not only generating $1.4 billion worldwide but dominating pop culture discourse for months on end. It was a fitting conclusion for a project that had spent decades in development hell, with Sharon Stone even pitching a Barbie movie way back in the ’90s.
While speaking on Dana Carvey and David Spade’s Fly On The Wall podcast, Sharon Stone spilled a few more details on her failed Barbie pitch. “I went to the studio to try and make Barbie in the 1990s with a producer, a friend of mine, and I had the then-ceo of Mattel on my side,” Stone said. “We got thrown out of the studio. They were like, ‘Why would you take this American icon and try to destroy it? What is wrong with you?’ I got a lecture and an escort to the door.“

Sharon Stone surprised fans in January when she revealed on Instagram that she tried and failed to pitch a “Barbie” movie in the 1990s, decades before Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie would make their own adaptation to the tune of $1.4 billion worldwide (the highest-grossing film of 2023) and eight Academy Award nominations. Stone said she got “laughed out of the studio” back then. She recently dropped some new info about her axed “Barbie” movie while visiting Dana Carvey and David Spade’s “Fly On The Wall” podcast.

Former SNL cast members Dana Carvey and David Spade welcomed actress and 1992 SNL host Sharon Stone onto their Fly on the Wall podcast Wednesday, where the trio discussed a wide variety of topics, including Stone’s controversial episode as host.
Stone, whose hit Basic Instinct had recently been released in theaters, remembered being “terrified” during the April 1992 SNL live airing. And that was even before protestors stormed the stage seconds before her opening monologue, resulting in several arrests.
“I came out to do the monologue live, which is super scary … and people stormed the stage, saying they were going to kill me during the opening monologue,” recalled Stone. “The police and security who were in there froze, because they had never seen anything like that happen.”
Stone remarked that Lorne Michaels “personally saved my life” when the protestors stormed the stage.

Dana Carvey is apologizing to Sharon Stone for the “offensive” Saturday Night Live sketch in 1992, which saw her taking her clothes off.
The actress made a recent appearance on the Fly on the Wall With Dana Carvey and David Spade podcast, where she recalled her time hosting the NBC sketch comedy show on April 11, 1992, following the release of her hit movie Basic Instinct.
During their conversation about some of the skits in that particular episode, Carvey pointed out how Stone “was such a good sport” because of “the comedy we did in 1992 with Sharon Stone, we would be literally arrested now.”
One controversial skit that Carvey brought up was the “Airport Security Sketch,” in which male airport security officers, including Carvey who appeared as an Indian security guard, made Stone remove one item of clothing at a time, claiming they needed to check to see if she was carrying anything dangerous.

In an appearance on Dana Carvey and David Spade’s Fly on the Wall podcast, Sharon Stone thanked longtime Saturday Night Live producer Lorne Michaels for saving her life.
Stone was hosting SNL in 1992 when Michaels’ heroics happened. It was right after the release of Stone’s controversial role in the film Basic Instinct.
“A bunch of people started storming the stage, saying they were going to kill me during the opening monologue,” she said. “The police that are always in there during all of that, and the security that is always in there, froze ’cause they’d never seen anything like that happen. They sort of, they froze. Lorne started screaming, ‘What are you guys doing, watching the f—ing show?’ And Lorne started, himself, beating up and pulling these people back from the stage.”
Eventually, order was restored.

Sharon Stone stopped by Dana Carvey and David Spade’s “Fly On The Wall” podcast to discuss the time she hosted “Saturday Night Live” back in April 1992 shortly after the release of her erotic blockbuster “Basic Instinct.” Stone remembered being “terrified” during the live taping as protestors stormed the stage seconds before her monologue. Six men were eventually arrested due to the incident. Stone said “SNL” creator Lorne Michaels “personally saved my life” when the protestors charged.

Prior to losing himself as the musical genius Leonard Bernstein in Maestro, Bradley Cooper starred as a similar figure alongside Lady Gaga in his directorial debut, A Star is Born. But the latter’s impact wasn’t limited to the silver screen, as apart from garnering several Academy nods following the film’s brilliance, it also sparked dating rumors between the two leads.
Following Gaga and Cooper’s impeccable chemistry in the film, it’s reasonable to see why many felt that way, and among those many, Cooper’s ex-wife also shared a similar sentiment on the matter.

Radio broadcast company Audacy is laying off about 25 percent of its staff from its Pineapple Street podcast division.
The cuts, which amount to 12 people, come as the company contended with reduced marketing budgets, as well a reduced demand for high-cost, limited run narrative series (which bore the brunt of the staff reductions), as well as an impact from the SAG-AFTRA strikes. The company also put a cost-cutting plan in place last summer, ahead of declaring Chapter 11 bankruptcy in court this month.
“As part of our 2024 planning cycle, we are continuing to optimize our structure to align with the podcast market opportunity and set us up for continued growth. Unfortunately, that means reducing the size of some of our teams, and we have made the difficult decision to reduce a portion of our Pineapple staff. We are grateful for the hard work and dedication of the impacted individuals,” the company said in a statement.

In 2017, Kevin Nealon and his friend Matthew Modine were huffing and puffing their way up a steep grade in Temescal Canyon, a tranquil trail that’s a kind of unofficial backyard for many industry figures on L.A.’s Westside. Their breathless conversation amused Nealon, so he whipped out his iPhone and started recording. Among the oaks and sycamores, with birdsong in the background, Nealon asked Modine, who first rose to prominence in Stanley Kubrick’s Full Metal Jacket in 1987, which acting roles he had turned down in his career. “He goes, ‘Oh, man. Back to the Future, the Michael J. Fox part. Big, the Tom Hanks part. Wall Street, the Charlie Sheen part.’ I said, ‘You idiot.’ He laughed.” Nealon posted some clips from their conversation on his Twitter feed, and the videos started taking off.
