After taking a look back at House II: The Second Story (a favorite of mine since childhood), House of 1000 Corpses (which celebrated its 20th anniversary last year), the awesomeness of Tales from the Crypt Presents: Demon Knight, the leg smashing in the Stephen King adaptation Misery, three separate moments from John Carpenter’s Big Trouble in Little China, the “Jason vs. Tina” battle in Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood, the “all hell breaks loose” sequence from the start of Zack Snyder’s Dawn of the Dead remake, and the opening sequence of Pitch Black, JoBlo’s own Lance Vlcek is continuing his The Best Scene video series with a look at a moment from the 1994 classic The Crow (watch it Here) – which isn’t just getting a 4K release for its 30 anniversary. It’s also getting a remake.

Directed by Rupert Sanders and starring Bill Skarsgård, the reboot of the 1994 film, The Crow has become one of the hot topics of discussion. Based on James O’Barr’s comic book series of the same name, the film is the remake of the 1994 film, which featured Brandon Lee in the lead role. While the film was a box office hit and has since gained a cult following, the actor tragically lost his life during production due to a fatal incident involving a prop gun.

Criticism has been directed at the remake by original cast members and director Alex Proyas, who argue that it risks tarnishing Lee’s legacy. However, filmmaker Rupert Sanders has defended the project, asserting that it aims to pay tribute to Lee and expressing hope that the revival would do justice to his memory.

It seems like a remake of Brandon Lee’s iconic, The Crow movie is all set to meet a similar fate after we saw the first look of Bill Skarsgård’s portrayal of Eric Draven.

Popularly known for portraying Pennywise in the horror film franchise It, Bill Skarsgård is set to star in the remake of the 1994 supernatural superhero film The Crow. Directed by Alex Proyas, the original film featured Brandon Lee in the lead role of Eric Draven. Following its success several other actors have since portrayed different versions of The Crow in subsequent sequels. Skarsgård, however, would be bringing Lee’s character Eric Draven back in the remake.

Yesterday, we saw the first images of what Bill Skarsgard of the It films is going to look like as goth rocker Eric Draven in director Rupert Sanders’ (Snow White and the Huntsman) remake of the 1994 classic The Crow (watch it Here). There weren’t a lot of positive reactions, with many fans comparing Skarsgard’s look – which Sanders said was a mixture of his own look in the ’90s, “when we were squat-raving in London,” with modern influences like Post Malone and Lil Peep – to Jared Leto’s poorly-received version of The Joker in Suicide Squad. One person who took to social media to blast the look of the new Eric Draven was Alex Proyas, who directed the ’94 version of The Crow.
Sharing one of the images, Proyas said, “Eric Draven’s having a bad hair day. Next reboot thanks.” In the comments, he continued to mock the look:...

30 years after it debuted, The Crow – starring Brandon Lee – is getting a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release in the UK. More here.
The latest example of a movie anniversary to make some of us feel really rather old? That’d be 1994’s The Crow, a film I remember driving through pouring rain to go and see. Famous of course for being the final movie of Brandon Lee, who died in a tragic on-set accident, it’s the best recreation of James O’Barr’s The Crow character on screen to date. A fresh take is due in cinemas this coming summer.
Before that, though, there’s the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray debut of 1994’s The Crow. Directed by Alex Proyas and co-starring Rochelle Davis, Ernie Hudson, Michael Wincott and Bai Ling, the film was an R-rated comic book film at a point where that wasn’t even a contentious thing to be.

We recently heard that Lionsgate has picked up the distribution rights to the reboot of the classic film The Crow (get it Here), which was released by Miramax back in 1994. Before Miramax acquired it, The Crow had originally been set up at Paramount. They decided to let go of it due to the controversy surrounding the on-set death of star Brandon Lee and the amount of violence in the film. So when Paramount acquired Miramax back in 2020, gaining the rights to The Crow in the process, it was like the film had gone full circle. It came back to Paramount. Recently, cinematographer Dariusz Wolski, mentioned a 4K restoration of The Crow would be on the Paramount Plus streaming service soon. While it hasn’t hit streaming yet, Blu-Ray.com announced that the 4K Blu-ray is set to come out on May 7th to mark the film’s 30th anniversary.

Marvel at the fact that Disney, which owns the Marvel Cinematic Universe, may soon remove their superhero films from Netflix once they launch their own streaming site this fall. Therefore, you might want to revisit some of your favorites on this list before they vanish. In addition, there are two Batman films as well as the cult movies “The Crow” and the original “Hellboy.”

[To get you into the spooky spirit, the Daily Dead team is spotlighting double features that we think would be fun to watch this Halloween season. Check here for more double feature recommendations and other Halloween 2017 coverage.]
In horror movies, things usually go so very wrong on October 31st when it comes to the Halloween-themed offerings of the genre. But what about the night before? October 30th, or “Devil’s Night”, can also bring about its own horrific consequences, which is the theme I went with when it came time to put together my double feature of Alex Proyas’ The Crow and Rob Zombie’s House of 1000 Corpses. Both are coincidentally feature film debuts for each director, they feature killer soundtracks, and this pair of films is also centered around a storyline where the characters will never be the same after their experiences on the night before Halloween.

Every once in a while, an actor will come on the scene with impact, impressing everyone with a powerhouse debut performance. But sometimes a great freshmen performance fails to lead to a good follow up, and the person who made the impressive debut starts to fade from the scene. It’s always sad when such potential is unmet. Here are 10 actors who started with a bang but faded with a whimper.
Heather Donahue (The Blair Witch Project-1999) She came on the scene in a big way, starring in the low-budget hit film that became such a sensation and started the ‘hand-held-camera’ style of film making (Used in Paranormal Activity, Cloverfield and others). She seemed poised to be the new Jamie Lee Curtis, the horror film “it girl”. She got a lot of offers to do other horror films but turned them down, in order to prevent type casting. Since then,...

We have done our fair share of bitching around here about the forthcoming reboot of The Crow that Relativity Media is putting together. While that movie is likely to be a gigantic train wreck and what I consider a gigantic kick in the teeth to the legacy of Brandon Lee, the film making history of Alex Proyas and the writing of James O’Barr, I can be thankful that I still have the option of watching the original.
And now, thanks to the folks at Lionsgate and Miramax, I can finally watch it in all of its HD glory on Blu-ray. Check out the Blu-ray trailer and details on picking up a copy for yourself below!

The edits made to the Wikipedia entry for the Iraq War can fill 7,000 pages -- and they do, in this fall's The Iraq War: A Historiography of Wikipedia Changelogs. (We appreciate the simplicity of the edit "Saddam Hussein was a dickhead.") But as the encyclopedia rounds its first decade, it's beefing up its veracity with the Public Policy Initiative, in which college students write fully vetted entries. "Our courses are rigorous," says Rochelle Davis, whose Georgetown public-policy students will produce entries. "They do all the research, and then the work is for Wikipedia." Smart, indeed. -- Margaret Rhodes

Unfortunately, his efforts to debut Tales of an Ancient Empire during the recently concluded San Diego Comic-Con didn't pan out, but that hasn't stopped director Albert Pyun from coming up with Plan B. This weekend, on Saturday, July 31st to be exact, the film will have its world premiere at Fright Night Film Fest in Louisville, Kentucky.
Tales is screening at 9:00 pm, and the show will be followed by a Q&A with director Pyun, writer Cynthia Curnan, and director of photography Phillip Waters. They will be guests at the Fest on August 1st as well.
A brief summary of Tales of an Ancient Empire, which stars Christopher Lambert, Melissa Ordway, Kevin Sorbo, Lee Horsley, Victoria Maurette, and Jennifer Siebel Newsom, is as follows: A princess (Ordway) is on a quest to unite the five greatest warriors to save her kingdom from a demon sorceress.
