It's been a long wait, but Happy Valley's third and final season finally premieres Monday, May 22, on Acorn TV, AMC+, and BBC America.
As has been teased in the teasers and trailers, we're in for another edge-of-the-seat thriller from start to finish.
TV Fanatic scored an exclusive first look at Happy Valley Season 3 Episode 1, and it's a great indicator of what's to come.
The clip features Tommy Lee Royce (James Norton) being quizzed about another crime, and he's somehow scarier than before.
The role has been a change of pace for Norton, and he plays the darkest shades of Royce's personality to perfection.
Undoubtedly, he'll cause many problems for Sft Catherine Cawood throughout the last-ever episodes of this hit series that has been off the air since 2016.
Yes, after a seven-year hiatus, we're being treated to a compelling new mystery, filled with shocking twists and turns.

Following on their collaboration on Charlotte Wells’ “Aftersun,” Charades has boarded international sales on upcoming Mubi-backed production “Bring Them Down.”

On “Aftersun,” Charades took on international sales duties, with Mubi boarding to take distribution rights to multiple territories – such as U.K.-Ireland, France, Germany, Italy and Spain – just as the films bowed in 2022 Cannes Critics’ Week.
For “Bring Them Down,” Charades will sell international rights outside North America, U.K., Ireland, Latin America and Italy where Mubi retains all rights.
Colm Meaney (“Gangs of London”), Nora-Jane Noone (“Wildfire”), Paul Ready (“Motherland”), and Susan Lynch (Happy Valley”) also star.

Hodgson, who recently co-wrote and starred in Channel 4’s Prince Andrew: The Musical, shared a video online in which he recaps the third and final series of the hit BBC show. Hodgson speaks in character as the Happy Valley stars.
During the video, he imitates Sarah Lancashire’s Catherine Cawood and her sister Clare, played by Siobhan Finneran.
He also delivers impressions of Tommy Lee Royce (James Norton) and his teenage son Ryan (Rhys Connah).
Other moments see Hodgson take on Susan Lynch’s Alison Garrs, Conn O’Neil’s performance of Clare’s boyfriend Neil, and the Pe teacher Mr Hepworth (Mark Stanley).
Hodgson shared the video on Twitter, writing: “A little treat for fans of #HappyValley Bad TV Impressions.”
Viewers have disagreed with his assessment, however, and are commending him for his efforts.

Happy Valley fans are trying to work out clues about what will happen in the finale.
The BBC drama, created by Sally Wainwright, will air its last ever episode on Sunday (5 February) as the third series draws to a close.
Fans are hoping that Catherine Cawood (Sarah Lancashire), who is days away from retirement, will make it out of the series alive despite the fact that newly escaped prisoner Tommy Lee Royce (James Norton) is after her.
They are also hoping that her grandson, Ryan (Rhys Connah), will do the right thing and reject his murderous father’s attempts to lure him to Spain.
Whatever happens, some fans believe that there’s one character who could play an instrumental part in how things play out.
This character is Alison Garrs (Susan Lynch).
Alison first appeared in series two as the mother of serial killer Daryl (Robert Emms). After he confessed to his mother,...

Happy Valley fans have been left confused following the latest episode’s scenes set in Sheffield.
The BBC drama’s third and final series continued on Sunday (8 January) with an instalment that ended on yet another giant cliffhanger.
However, it was where the scene was filmed that caused some consternation among fans.
*Spoilers follow – you have been warned*
The episode saw Catherine follow her sister Clare (Siobhan Finneran) and her boyfriend Neil (Con O'Neill) as they seemingly escorted her grandson to see his father Tommy Lee Royce (James Norton) in a Sheffield prison behind her back.
To follow them undetected, Catherine borrowed a car belonging to Alison Garrs (Susan Lynch), the mother of series two murderer Daryl (Robert Emms). In the series two finale, Alison killed her son and was arrested by a hesitant Catherine.

The return of Happy Valley – seven years after its second season – might just constitute the first “pinch me” moment of 2023. By the second episode, it’s back to business as usual. Sergeant Catherine Cawood (Sarah Lancashire) is rolling up her sleeves to do some good ol’ police work, while Tommy Lee Royce (James Norton) is up to no good and sporting a new hairdo.
Et tu Brute?
Last week’s episode left Catherine with the revelation that her post-Tommy life of domestic bliss isn’t quite as blissful as she had thought. Someone has been taking Ryan (Rhys Connah) to see his no-good father in prison – but who? Episode two gives us the answer straight off the bat: Clare! More specifically, it’s Clare (Siobhan Finneran) and Neil (Con O’Neil) but mostly, we’re just shocked about Clare.
Catherine drops her jaw in utter disbelief, muttering: “S***.” Then comes the inevitable follow-up question: Why?...

Warning: this Happy Valley review contains spoilers.
Behold, the cold fury of Catherine Cawood. The hurt rage radiating off her in that final scene could power a warship. The next time we see Clare, she’ll just be a scarf floating in a puddle on the floor of that Sheffield cafe, Catherine having disintegrated her with a look.
Instead of Hulk-smashing her way out of the gaffer’s office and heading straight for Clare as expected when Catherine learned of her sister’s betrayal, she absorbed the shock and kept it all inside. It was an excellent dramatic choice that meant an episode of extra-flinty stares and heavyweight tension. Every domestic scene – Catherine and Clare, Catherine and Ryan – bore the heft of that unexpressed anger, turning each exchange into the split-second after a grenade’s pin has been pulled but before it’s thrown. The explosion’s coming, but when?...

Among the detective dramas and high-stakes thrillers due to arrive on British television in the next year or so, there are a clutch of sci-fi, supernatural and horror shows also coming our way. April saw the release of Sky One original Intergalactic – the story of a wrongly imprisoned galactic pilot who breaks out of space jail with a gang of other high-security female prisoners – and Netflix has ordered fantasy novel adaptations Half Bad, Cuckoo Song, Lockwood & Co. and The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle – respectively, tales of witches, supernatural pacts, ghost-hunters, and a woman who jumps between bodies in her quest to solve a murder mystery. Coming to terrestrial TV, there’s Life After Life and The Three, stories about living multiple versions of the same life, and the miraculous child survivors of a mysterious plane crash.
On top of that, there’s plenty of true crime, thrillers, a new...

17 months go by in between the first two seasons of “Save Me.” When the camera ducks inside The Palm Tree, the local pub frequented by so many in the series’ ensemble, most of the patrons are living their lives much the same way as they did before the events of the show’s first season. “Save Me,” which aired its opening episodes stateside on Starz before landing at its current home on Peacock, began with the disappearance of Jody, the 13-year-old daughter of Nelly (Lennie James) and Claire (Suranne Jones).
At the opening of Season 2 (stylized in the opening credits as “Save Me Too”), Jody is still missing. Nelly, much like Claire and her husband Barry, have settled into a state of perpetual anxiety, even if they’re able to mask that sadness to their respective partners.

Save Me Too isn’t an ordinary TV thriller. It has all the ingredients – crimes, victims, mysteries, tension, cliff-hangers – but shows them from a peculiarly human perspective. Instead of clustering the action around a police station with occasional visits to a victim or suspect’s house, it inverts that ratio and plays out on the streets and inside homes. Its police are largely absent, a peripheral presence at most. We never sit in on a daily investigation briefing or glimpse an evidence board.
It can be destabilising. The deliberate avoidance of procedural elements in favour of something looser, more vital and more emotional, leaves viewers without familiar bearings. Plot points can be tricky to pin down. Questions can go unanswered. Characters pulse in and out of play, their stories not always tightly connected to the main plot. But in the end, none of that matters. What matters are the characters,...

Fans of Sky Atlantic’s Save Me have waited two years to see more of the acclaimed London-set thriller created by and starring Lennie James. Six new episodes are almost upon us, with series two due to launch as a Sky boxset on Wednesday the 1st of April.
And according to James, that might not the the last of it.
“I don’t feel quite than I’m finished with these characters,” James told assembled press at an online Q&a held for the second series press launch. (The planned London screening event was moved online due to the global spread of Covid-19).
When asked if a third series, or more stories from the Save Me characters was a possibility, James answered “yes and yes.”

Created by Chris Lang, ITV’s Unforgotten pairs Nicola Walker’s Dci Cassie Stuart with Sanjeev Bhaskar’s Di Sunil Khan. Along with their team, those two investigate decades-old murder cases, piecing together events that transpired many years ago to deliver justice and closure to the victim and their relatives.
Series one saw the duo called to investigate the remains of a man long-buried under the foundations of a London home, while series two began with the discovery of a skeleton dredged up from the River Lea. Series three was the distressing story of a missing teenager whose body was discovered under the central reservation of a motorway.
Series four, which starts with the discovery of a body stored for decades in a domestic freezer, will star New Tricks’ Sheila Hancock, Killing Eve’s Susan Lynch, Wanderlust’s Andy Nyman and more. See below for the full cast and plot details.

One of the finest British dramas of recent years, Save Me was created and written by actor-screenwriter Lennie James, best known around here for playing Morgan Jones in The Walking Dead universe.
The six-episode thriller about a deadbeat dad searching for his estranged kidnapped daughter aired on Sky Atlantic in early 2018, where it became the broadcaster’s most rapidly binged series, for good reason. The writing, cast, and offbeat picture of life on a South London housing estate combined with its abduction thriller plot made for compelling viewing.
Now returning for a second series, Save Me Too will pick up the story of Nelly (James), his missing daughter Jody, her mother Claire (Suranne Jones) and the cast of friends and foes embroiled in the ongoing saga. Sky Atlantic has released the first look trailer (see below), picking up the action 17 months after the conclusion of series one.

Ah yes, we have a winner for the best ‘Comfort Food Movie’ of them all. When a trailer for this show popped up at a screening of The Farewell back in August, I heard gasps of excitement from the (slightly older-skewing) audience, as if everyone’s favorite relatives were coming back to town. Loyal fans of the massively popular TV series will be delighted: if you enjoyed it week by week or streaming, you’re going to love this ‘one more time’ get-together with the elegant Crawleys and their engaging domestic staff.

Footage from Dermot Lavery and Michael Hewitt’s “Lost Lives” offers a glimpse of some of the victims of the conflict in Northern Ireland, known in Britain and Ireland simply as “the Troubles.”
The nonfiction film has its world premiere at the London Film Festival on Thursday. It has a roster of big-name Irish actors narrating, including Kenneth Branagh, Adrian Dunbar, Brendan Gleeson, Susan Lynch and Liam Neeson.
The film project is based on the book of the same title, which was written over seven years by five journalists. They set out to record the circumstances of every single death in the conflict, which was formally ended by the 1998 Good Friday peace agreement, although violence has occasionally flared since. The book has 3,700 entries. The final one is for Lyra McKee, a journalist fatally shot in 2019.
Lavery and Hewitt describe the project not as a documentary but “a filmic response to the book.

It seems the BBC has renewed the Doctor Who TV show for a 12th season, with Jodie Whittaker returning as the 13th Doctor. The British series airs on BBC America on this side of the pond, and while BBCA hasn't released an announcement, it should be renewed in the US as well, as the ratings are way up this year.

[Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers from “Doctor Who” Season 11, Episode 2, “The Ghost Monument.”]
“This is proper awesome,” Ryan (Tosin Cole) says upon stepping into the Tardis for the first time on Sunday’s “Doctor Who.” This sentiment sums up the thrilling, action-packed episode, making up for the lackluster debut of Jodie Whittaker as the new Doctor last week.
Last seen floating in space, the Doctor and her three companions are saved but somehow get caught between the final two competitors in a cutthroat race called The Rally of the 12 Galaxies. The final challenge in the rally takes place on a planet called Desolation, where the first person to survive the planet’s dangers and reach a legendary landmark called The Ghost Monument — which appears briefly for every 1,000 turns of the planet — will win a lifetime of safety. The Doctor realizes that The Ghost Monument is, in fact, her Tardis, phasing in and out of time and space from faulty engines.

Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor unleashed 8.2M viewers and a 40.1% share for BBC One in the UK as the first episode of the new season of Doctor Who smashed the performance of recent airings.
This compared to Peter Capaldi’s swansong season, which opened with 4.6M (25%) overnight viewers in the UK in April 2017, largely in line with 2015’s season opener.
To put this further into context, BBC One terror thriller Bodyguard opened with 6.7M viewers and a 35% share to become the biggest new drama launch of the year.
Her entrance was also bigger than debuts by previous doctors including David Tennant, Matt Smith and Capaldi.
The first season under the leadership of Chris Chibnall saw Whittaker’s Doctor joined by new friends Ryan (Tosin Cole), Yasmin (Mandip Gill) and Graham (Bradley Walsh). The next era started with the The Woman Who Fell to Earth episode, which was written by Chibnall and directed by Jamie Childs.

‘Doctor Who’ Season 11 Trailer: Jodie Whittaker Is Starting Again, Sonic Screwdriver in Hand (Video)
The (new) Doctor is in.
BBC America released the official trailer for the upcoming season of “Doctor Who” Thursday, showing new lead Jodie Whittaker in all her badass glory. Peter Capaldi portrayed the 12th Doctor on the long-running series, giving up his sonic screw driver and keys to the Tardis during last year’s Christmas Special after making it known earlier in the year that he’d be exiting.

The news that Jodie Whittaker would be taking on the role of the 13th Doctor has been out for some time, but every new glimpse of her take on the iconic role seems to prove that gender has nothing to do with adventures through space and time.

In the new trailer released below, we get glimpses of action, explosions, monsters, and the Doctor’s new companions, who have no problem pointing out who exactly is in charge.

[Editor’s Note: The following article contains spoilers from the “Killing Eve” finale, “God I’m Tired.”]
From the beginning, “Killing Eve” — an adaptation of Luke Jennings’ novellas — has specialized in surprises that both reveal and confuse aspects of its characters’ psychologies. The obsession that MI5 officer Eve Polastri (Sandra Oh) has with the international assassin known as Villanelle (Jodie Comer) is in itself a muddled mess of desires, and that comes to a head in the jam-packed finale when the two meet again.
When Eve tracks down Villanelle to her posh Paris flat, she confesses that the killer has overtaken her every waking thought and then collapses on the bed from exhaustion. Villanelle takes the gun that Eve had been holding, lays down beside Eve, and then puts the gun away. It appears that they’ve come to an understanding with no threat of danger between them.
But as the two turn to each other in a charged, intimate moment,...

[Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers from “Killing Eve” Episode 7, “I Don’t Want to Be Free.”]
“Killing Eve” only has one episode left this season, not that you’d know by what goes down in Sunday’s episode. In the loaded installment, allegiances shift to the point where viewers have no idea whom to trust anymore, and the international assassin Villanelle (Jodie Comer) manages to not only break out prison, but also add to her body count, and make one very dangerous enemy.
In the process, much is revealed about the interiority of the comely killer, while her pursuer Eve (Sandra Oh) is still gathering information. One big breakthrough, however, could give her leverage in next week’s finale.
Unraveling Eve
Eve’s frustration levels are reaching an all-time high, but at least her investigation yields some fruit this week. When she finally meets with Anne (Susan Lynch), who appears to have been Villanelle’s first significant lover,...
