Romantic comedies are back, baby! After the success of Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell’s Anyone but You and Lindsay Lohan’s Irish Wish, studios’ wallets are pitter-patting for amor with a touch of giggle juice. Netflix is coming into Monday with a first look at the streamer’s upcoming romantic comedy A Family Affair, starring Nicole Kidman, Zac Efron, and Joey King.
Richard Lagravenese directs A Family Affair from a screenplay by Carrie Solomon. The tangled web of emotions revolves around a surprising romance that kicks off comic consequences for a young woman, her mother, and her movie star boss as they face the complications of love, sex, and identity. Liza Koshy and the legendary Kathy Bates also star.

Lawmen: Bass Reeves is an American Western series that premiered late last year. However, it has already received a very positive critical reception, earning an impressive 93% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes and becoming the most watched show worldwide on Paramount+.
The show is clearly destined for a series renewal. However, to the surprise of fans, the show's creators have stated that the second season is likely to be very different from the first.
What is Lawmen: Bass Reeves about?
The Western-themed show follows the story of real-life Deputy U.S. Marshal Bass Reeves, the first African-American to hold the position in the Upper Midwest Territory. Also based on The Bass Reeves book trilogy by Sidney Thompson, the plot of each episode follows Reeves (played by David Oyelowo) as he goes from being held as a slave to becoming one of the most famous lawmen in history.

The Artists4Ceasefire group, as they called themselves, asked in an open letter for the conflict to end, and for women and children to live in peace.

When California State University Northridge’s head of film production Nate Thomas came to visit one of his first students, Paul Hunter, on the set of the new David Oyelowo-starring Apple TV Plus series “Government Cheese,” the Northridge alum and show co-creator could be heard boasting about his time in the program.
After learning to tell stories at Csun, Hunter spun a renowned career directing music videos for Beyonce and U2, among others, into helming Bacardi spots with Michael B. Jordan and Cannes Golden Lion-winning campaigns for Nike. Much of that has been through PrettyBird, a Hollywood commercial house he co-founded and uses in part to help foster and launch the careers of other underrepresented voices. “It all started at Northridge,” Thomas says. “We do filmmaking not just for the privileged. We make it for all people who have a story to tell.”

Before you make your 2024 Emmy predictions for Best Drama Supporting Actor, take a tour of our photo gallery showcasing the men most likely to land in the lineup. Last year’s race was completely dominated by actors from “Succession” and “The White Lotus,” neither of which can produce nominees this time since the former ended last May and the latter won’t return until 2025.
Naturally, this category’s sole presently eligible former winner – Billy Crudup – has emerged as the frontrunner. Among his likeliest competitors are two of his own cast mates: 2020 nominee Mark Duplass and series newcomer Jon Hamm, who won the 2015 Best Drama Actor Emmy for “Mad Men” and is widely expected to take this year’s limited series lead prize for “Fargo.”
Other outside winners in the mix include James Cromwell (“Sugar”; formerly of “American Horror Story”), Nathan Lane (“The Gilded Age”; “Only Murders in the Building”), and...

You just can't keep those damn dirty apes down. 10 years after Tim Burton's 2001 "Planet of the Apes" re-imagining failed to reignite audiences' passion for stories about intellectually-enhanced simians, the long-running sci-fi franchise made an unexpectedly strong comeback with "Rise of the Planet of the Apes." Director Rupert Wyatt's entry in the series is now generally considered the weakest of the modern "Apes" trilogy, which is more of a testament to what Matt Reeves was able to accomplish with his subsequent sequels than necessarily a knock against Wyatt's film. "Rise" itself makes for an effective cautionary tale about humanity's hubris, our lack of compassion toward other living beings, and our habit of being our own worst enemy, as seen through the eyes of its co-protagonist, Caesar (Andy Serkis in his touchstone motion-capture role).
Yes, it's easy to forget that Caesar wasn't originally the singular lead of his own story.

Award-winning Colombian director-producer Simon Brand and Miami-based media executive producer Daniel Eilemberg have joined forces with the founders of Emmy-winning Imaginer Films, Julio César and Laura Franco, to launch Clover Studios, a new production services company in Colombia.
The new enterprise is in response to Colombia’s phenomenal growth as a major production center, driven by its competitive production incentives and flourishing creative community.
Led by Netflix’s ambitious series adaptation of Nobel Laureate Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s literary masterpiece “100 Years of Solitude,” which has entailed a full-scale recreation of the mythical village of Macondo and 20,000 extras, a number of high-profile projects have been lured to the country.
Just last year, upcoming sequel “Paddington in Peru” was mostly shot in Colombia instead of the country in its title. Star and executive producer David Oyelowo and Lawmen: Bass Reeves creator, showrunner and executive producer Chad Feehan said Reeves’ family values were what made him stand out. Oyelowo plays Reeves, a U.S. Marshal after the abolition of slavery.
“The way in for a global audience should be not just appealing to the sensibility of people who love westerns but the family,” Oyelowo said at Contenders TV. “Essentially a Black family which is also something you never see in this time period. As we discussed this, we felt the universal element was going to be the work-life balance as something that everyone can relate to.”
Oyelowo said that Reeves was always trying to get back to his family after his arrests. Reeves’ family values also influenced one of the show’s most memorable antagonists, Esau Pierce (Barry Pepper). Feehan said Pierce represents the antithesis of Reeves.

With Dune: Part Two’s success, Rebecca Ferguson’s filmography—which features a lead in a highly regarded sci-fi series currently airing on Apple TV+—has garnered more recognition. Yes, we are discussing Graham Yost’s science fiction dystopian drama TV series Silo. The Swedish actress expertly donned the role of Juliette Nichols, who is entangled in a web of mystery spanning the past and present.
Having said that, she obviously had to put in a lot of work to deliver a strong and complex performance. If you were to find out that she had “studied trauma” in order to assume this role, how would you respond? Well, she actually did this.
Critics gave the series favorable reviews, praising Ferguson’s performance and the production design. However, the actress has not gotten the recognition that her stellar performance so richly merits.

Zac Efron once had a much-talked about love scene with on-screen partner Nicole Kidman in The Paperboy. Efron’s ex-partner, Michelle Rodriguez, was one of many who saw the feature. And she was as candid as usual about her thoughts.

Rodriguez confided that she enjoyed The Paperboy, although that didn’t seem to be the popular opinion at the time. The movie was a Matthew McConaughey-led picture directed by Lee Daniels, and featured several stars including John Cusack and David Oyelowo. Despite its star-power, the movie received mixed-reviews that leaned over to the negative. But Rodriguez didn’t care for the critics’ opinion.

The Oscars (March 10) are finally, finally almost here. Come March 11, we can finally start talking about movies that aren’t Academy Award-nominated! Actually, make that March 12, as March 11 will be a day of chips still falling as pundits and amateur Oscar sleuths sift the wreckage and remains of what went right or wrong, bemoaning or celebrating their placement in Oscar pools and online rankings. Oh, and there are of course the awards PR reps doing the same.

Wes Anderson is long overdue an Oscar. The iconic director has been nominated seven times and lost on all seven occasions. He earned his eighth nomination this year for Best Live Action Short Film for his Roald Dahl adaptation “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar” (shared with Steven Rales).
However, Anderson could find himself trumped again as there is an impactful, emotional, heartfelt obstacle in his way: Misan Harriman‘s “The After.” Harriman, who rose to prominence as a photographer, has created one of the year’s most talked about short films with “The After.” The Netflix short follows David Oyelowo as a man who suffers an extraordinary loss and attempts to go through the ensuing healing process.
The movie has earned plenty of A-list supporters, with Angelina Jolie, Jeff Bridges, and Oprah all making it known how much they adored the tragic short film. Meghan Markle also conducted a...

If the Academy judged features by the same standards that they do live action shorts, the best picture ballot would be full of starry, quasi-political issue movies: well-meaning but manipulative films like “Father Stu” and “The Janes.” In this category, it’s the message that matters to Oscar voters, which makes this year’s “2024 Oscar Nominated Short Films: Live Action” program (available exclusively in theaters from ShortsTV) one of the most frustrating lineups in recent memory. Or it would, if not for the presence of one genuinely brilliant, liberatingly unserious nominee among them. That would be “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar,” the best of several delightful Roald Dahl adaptations director Wes Anderson cooked up for Netflix … but we’ll come to that in due time.

The 2024 Screen Actors Guild Awards have wrapped, and the full SAG winners list shows momentum for Lily Gladstone in the Best Actress race at the Oscars — as well as for “Oppenheimer” and its very possible march toward Best Picture.
“Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” led the nominations when they were announced January 10 with four each. “Oppenheimer” ended up winning the most of any film, with three prizes: Best Cast (the top prize), Best Actor Cillian Murphy, and Best Supporting Actor Robert Downey Jr. “Barbie” went home empty-handed.
Lily Gladstone won Best Actress for “Killers of the Flower Moon” over Emma Stone for “Poor Things,” who won the prize at the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards. Da’Vine Joy Randolph won the SAG Award for Best Supporting Actress for “The Holdovers,” and has pretty much swept that category at every awards show this season.

After what has been an incredibly predictable awards season for television in the last month with all the previous ceremonies checking “Succession,” “The Bear” and “Beef” down the line, it would make sense to presume that the Screen Actors Guild Awards this weekend will just follow the herd and honor the same champs. But lest we forget, we have seen time and time again where SAG-AFTRA does their own thing and sometimes yields surprising results, stopping some actors and shows in their tracks that have been on a roll. Read below for some recent shocking TV winners at the SAG Awards and what it could mean this year.
Beginning with last year’s ceremony, the two limited series/television movie acting winners were way off course of who was expected to triumph. For best actress, Amanda Seyfried was sweeping all the televised awards for “The Dropout” and was expected to complete the run with SAG,...

Films “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” enter the ceremony tied for the most nominations at four apiece. When winners are announced, our users expect Christopher Nolan’s film to win the most with three trophies, while Greta Gerwig’s will go home empty-handed. Another leading contender — Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon” — earned three nominations and will win one prize for actress Lily Gladstone. The other films that we anticipate will be recognized include “The Holdovers” for supporting actress Da’Vine Joy Randolph and “John Wick: Chapter 4” for stunt ensemble.

Sally Potter To Re-Release 2009 Feature ‘Rage’ As Series Of Instagram Posts To Mark 15th Anniversary
British filmmaker Sally Potter has set plans to re-release her 2009 feature Rage, starring Riz Ahmed, Lily Cole, Jude Law, and Judi Dench, as a series of posts on Instagram, to mark the film’s 15th anniversary.
Potter has said the movie will unravel over several “real-time” posts across seven days, starting February 23.
The film also stars Patrick J Adams, Jacob Cedergren, John Leguizamo, Eddie Izzard, David Oyelowo, Dianne Wiest, Steve Buscemi, Adriana Barraza, Simon Abkarian and Bob Balaban. The original concept in 2009 was for the film to be watched on smartphones. The synopsis reads: Michelangelo, an unseen schoolboy armed only with a mobile phone, goes behind the scenes at a New York fashion show for seven days in which an accident on the catwalk turns into a murder investigation, and his interviews with key players become a bitterly funny expose of an industry in crisis.
