During the early 1990s, long before “SNL,” Molly Shannon conned her way into a small part on “Twin Peaks.”
When starting out in Hollywood, the “Saturday Night Live” alum used a fake name (Liz Stockwell) and pretended to work for playwright David Mamet. Shannon’s pal Eugene Pack co-ran the “Mamet Scam,” which ultimately led to Shannon appearing on David Lynch’s “Twin Peaks.”
“We were trying to figure out how we were going to get in the door as actors,” Shannon wrote in her memoir, “Hello Molly!,” available from HarperCollins on April 12. “How were we gonna bust in? It was too hard to just slip your picture under an agent’s door. A random headshot? No one was ever gonna call. Then we hit on an idea. Eugene had studied with David Mamet. Eva Marie Saint is particular about one thing.
“It’s Eva Marie, not Eva,” she says with the trademark lilt, the one that melted the likes of Marlon Brando and Cary Grant in such classics as “On the Waterfront” and “North by Northwest.”
“I don’t want to embarrass you,” she adds to her temporarily flummoxed interviewer. “I like the name Eva, but it just sounds better with Marie attached to it.”
Saint has agreed to a rare interview to promote “The Bus Ride,” a roughly 10-minute audio play that is premiering this week as part of “The Pack Podcast.” The Oscar-winning actress, one of the last stars of Hollywood’s Golden Age, appeared as an elderly aunt without a filter in the episode opposite Marisa Tomei as her mortified niece.

Laraine Newman was 23 years old when she was cherry-picked by Lorne Michaels to join the inaugural cast of NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” in 1975, along with Chevy Chase, Gilda Radner, John Belushi, Jane Curtin, Garrett Morris and Dan Aykroyd. During her five-year tenure on the iconic show, Newman skyrocketed to fame for playing memorable characters such as Connie Conehead and Sheri the Valley Girl. A founding member of the legendary comedy troupe the Groundlings, the Emmy-nominated comic would go on to appear in Woody Allen’s “Stardust Memories” and in TV series such as “St. Elsewhere” and “Laverne & Shirley.” Newman would later carve out a thriving career as a voiceover artist, behind characters in such blockbuster animation projects as “The Incredibles,” “Minions” and “The Secret Life of Pets.” She’s also continued to hone her comic chops in the Drama Desk award-winning show “Celebrity Autobiography,” which was created by Eugene Pack.

She also writes that during the Autobiography production, she "got to play Miley Cyrus, Pamela Anderson and Ivanka!"
We would pay good money to watch Christie Brinkley play Miley Cyrus.
Meanwhile, over this past weekend, Brinkley also stepped out for the 38th...

If you're in New York City this month, be sure to check out the show 'Celebrity Autobiography: The Next Chapter!' You might see Kristen Wiig or Ryan Reynolds! Now this is something you don't see everyday! Out of all the theater happening in New York City, one of our favorite shows is Celebrity Autobiography: The Next Chapter. The equation is simple: celebrities come out on stage in an intimate venue with nothing but a microphone and another celebrity's autobiography -- and hilarity ensues. You never know exactly who you're going to catch, but there's always a cast of several A-listers to surprise you. We've been lucky enough to see stars like Kristen Wiig, Ryan Reynolds, Matthew Perry and tons of Saturday Night Live comedians read from autobiographies from celebs like Justin Bieber, the Kardashians, The Situation and more. Created by the brilliant Eugene Pack and developed by Eugene and Dayle Reyfel,...

Above you can see some of the participants in Celebrity Autobiography: Gay Pride Edition. They did readings from a variety of celebrities' autobiographies, and it may be one of my favorite photo galleries ever. Cheyenne Jackson's facial expressions while reading David Hasselhoff are priceless. The Rugby Football League today fined Castleford £40,000 for homophobic chanting directed at Gareth Thomas on March 26. Celebrity Autobiography is screamingly, laugh-out-loud funny. In its fall run, it draws a young, excited audience. The stage is simple, the concept is simple too, but the product is brilliant. First conceived by actor and producer Eugene Pack, the subtitle of the show is “In their own Words,” and that is exactly what occurs on stage. Wonderfully talented actors and comics step up to the mike and read from the published autobiographies of such luminaries as Joan Lunden, Tommy Lee of Motley Crue, the Jonas Brothers boy band, Liz Taylor, Lonnie Anderson, and my personal favorite, the ever cool, narcissistic, and horny Burt Reynolds.
Pack claims he used to entertain his friends by reading out loud from such works, and his pals would insist he must be making it up.
