"Insomnia" puts Skarsgard's character, an imported Swedish top cop on the verge of burnout, at the center of a nominally interesting cop vs killer flick. Shot with typically austere Scandinavian style, the film peers deep into the Skarsgard character as the plot twists and turns around him with almost secondary importance. Sans the trappings of the usual tinsel town product, "Insomnia" will connect best with those with an appetite for European style films.
