Skip quickly over the kitty in a bag scene, after that, its fine, honestly.

Tried watching this years ago, and like a few on here, hit stop at the kitten near the water part. But being a Will Ferris fan, latched onto it again having forgotten it. Recognising the offending part, I skipped on a minute and pretended it never happened.

The rest of the film meandered onward in a semi interesting Indie film type of way. Though Will Ferris plays a very non Will Ferris role, he does supply the one laugh out loud moment in the whole semi depressing runtime, along with some sweeter moments scattered along the way. The main protagonist Reese, is not entirely likeable, but then again if she was, how could she be redeemed? Ed Harris was great as usual, as were the rest of the small cast. Its about an artsy, writers family combatting their demons, and a tragic backstory, needing to be resolved via suitably dramatic means, but it avoids being too self indulgent, emotions wise. The interactions between the very different, but ideally suited characters works well and keeps things interesting.

Visuals are pleasing and the soundtrack fits in well, even the Will Ferris song.
