Jackie Loughery, who parlayed a victory in the first Miss USA pageant into an acting career that included a prominent role opposite future husband Jack Webb in the 1957 military drama The D.I., has died. She was 93.
Loughery died Friday in Los Angeles, Webb biographer Dan Moyer told The Hollywood Reporter. “She was like a mother to me and called me her kid,” he said.
The Brooklyn native also served as Johnny Carson’s assistant on a game show and appeared in the Western comedy Pardners (1956), starring Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis; the melodrama Eighteen and Anxious (1957), starring William Campbell; and the political drama A Public Affair (1962), starring Edward Binns.

In the 1980s, Hollywood didn’t quite know what to do with Rutger Hauer. The actor broke out in a pretty major way following his acclaimed turn in Paul Verhoeven’s Soldier of Orange, paving the way for his American debut in the Sylvester Stallone thriller Nighthawks, where he played the villain Wulfgar. His performance as Roy Batty in Blade Runner blew people away, and for a while, it looked like he might become the next big Hollywood heartthrob, especially when he signed on to star in the epic adventure film Ladyhawke opposite Michelle Pfeiffer for Richard Donner.
But major stardom didn’t happen? Why? Perhaps it was because the movies of Hauer’s that did best at the box office were the ones where he played the villain, such as The Hitcher. He was so unforgettable as a bad guy that when he played a hero, such as in...

The Friday the 13th franchise is very important to me, so it always hits me hard when I hear that someone involved with the series has passed away… and last Friday night, the news broke that we have lost another Friday the 13th alumnus. Someone who played the hockey masked icon Jason Voorhees himself: stuntman Ted White. White had already been working in the entertainment industry as an actor and stuntman for thirty-five years by the time he was offered the chance to play Jason in 1984’s Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter (watch it Here). It’s not a job he was thrilled to do, he didn’t even want to be credited on the movie, but he accepted it because the pay was good. As years went by, White eventually realized that he had been involved in something special and started connecting with fans at conventions.

20th Century Fox bought the screenplay to 1985's "Commando" from "Teen Wolf" screenwriters Jeph Loeb and Matthew Weisman with the plan to slot Arnold Schwarzenegger into the lead role. Even after the big success of James Cameron's "The Terminator" a year earlier, Schwarzenegger saw "Commando" as a big deal. He explained why in Empire's oral history:
"'Commando' was a big step forward for me. I had only done 'Conan' and 'Terminator,' but now I got to play a gentle, loving father. He is also a fighting machine that will not stop until his objective is complete."
In the film, he plays John Matrix, a retired U.S. Army Colonel who must rescue his daughter (Alyssa Milano) after she's kidnapped by a group of mercenaries. The film allowed Schwarzenegger to showcase his wits and humor and served as the model for his macho, quippy one-liner films that followed.

On July 30, 2015, a dough-faced 19-year-old Vine creator named David Dobrik posted his first YouTube video, a five-minute vlog called “Putting A Puppy Into The Microwave!!” Part “Drake & Josh” (minus the adult supervision) and part “Jackass” (minus the corporate oversight), that hyper-active but ultimately adorable clip anticipated the kind of all-caps antics that would elevate Dobrik and his wack pack of Disney Channel-ready edgelords into new media superstars.
In August of 2020 — after eclipsing eight billion views across his various channels and being selected over pop stars Harry Styles and Shawn Mendes as People Magazine’s “Sexiest Heartthrob of 2019” — Dobrik bought a mansion in Sherman Oaks for $9.5 million. At some point in there, between Dobrik putting a puppy in the microwave and getting a super-lucrative sponsorship deal with Chipotle (they named a burrito after him!), 40-year-old web video elder statesman Casey Neistat began making a documentary about the young content kingpin...

The Masked Singer returned to Fox for its seventh season with a slew of good, bad and cuddly contestants.
“Welcome to the premiere you’ve been waiting for,” said host Nick Cannon. “It’s the most bonkers season yet.”
You may have already assumed that given that the reality competition series has its most controversial character yet lined up – Deadline revealed earlier this month that Donald Trump’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani, who propagated the lie that the 2020 election was stolen, caused judges Ken Jeong and Robin Thicke to walk off stage after he was unmasked.
Giuliani, however, does not feature in the season opener, you’ll have to wait for that.
[Spoiler Alert] Tonight’s evictee, dressed as McTerrier, was Duff Goldman, pastry chef and star of Food Network series including Ace of Cakes and Duff Till Dawn.
Goldman, who sang Loverboy’s “Working for the Weekend,” had quite the eventful episode.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read ahead if you have not watched the Season 7 season premiere, part one, of “The Masked Singer,” which aired March 8 on Fox.
He may be an ace of cakes, but Duff Goldman is not necessarily a swan of song. The Food Network star and famed baker was the first celebrity revealed on this season of “The Masked Singer,” which means the one we’re all bracing for — the unmasking of disgraced former mayor Rudy Giuliani — is still to come.
Goldman’s exit kicked off Season 7 of Fox’s “The Masked Singer” on Wednesday, and his appearance on the show came with a bit of a twist: After performing, Goldman accidentally knocked off the head of his costume.
Disguised as a Scottish terrier — nicknamed “McTerrier” — Goldman stumbled as he got too close to the edge of the stage. And as he reached to keep the head of his costume on,...

Pakistan’s Central Board of Film Censors (Cbfc) has banned Pakistani-American filmmaker Iram Parveen Bilal’s “I’ll Meet You There” a week ahead of its theatrical release in the country.
The Cbfc found the film unsuitable for public exhibition on the grounds that it “does not reflect true Pakistani culture, portrays a negative image of Muslims, wrong/dubious interpretation of Islamic teachings and our society which is against the norms of Islamic, social and cultural values of Pakistan.” The Cbfc has refused to grant a censorship certificate on these grounds.

There’s no denying that Richard Donner, who died Monday at 91, was one of the most influential architects of the blockbuster era. He directed “Superman,” the 1978 man-of-steel epic that invented the comic-book movie as we know it. He directed all four films in the “Lethal Weapon” series, which may be the quintessential incarnation of the joshingly abrasive, throwaway buddy-cop movie. He directed “The Omen,” the 1976 Satan-is-alive-and-he’s-a-scowling-schoolboy horror film that ruled the box office and spooked a generation of moviegoers’ imaginations.
Yet unlike those other formative directors of the blockbuster era, George Lucas and Steven Spielberg, Donner was a crowd-pleasing showman who never pretended to be a deep cinematic artist. At his best, he worked with a straight-down-the-middle craft and vitality, and with a human touch that made his movies play like escapist fairy tales.

Director Richard Donner, who died on Monday at age 91, was once compared to Victor Fleming (“Gone with the Wind”) and Michael Curtiz (“Casablanca”), old-school filmmakers who worked hard to give their studio bosses what they wanted (and to give the public what they thought it wanted).
Donner may have come into his own as a hit-maker during the New Hollywood of the 1970s, but no one ever accused him of being an auteur. He made accessible entertainments — and if that were an easy task, everyone would have done it — and helped usher in the modern era of superhero cinema with 1978’s “Superman,” a thrilling and utterly unironic take on the comic-book icon that feels more influential to contemporary moviemaking with each passing year.
Born Richard Donald Schwartzberg in the Bronx, Donner moved to Los Angeles in the 1950s with hopes of becoming an actor. He was soon mentored by director Martin Ritt,...

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched the series finale of “Younger,” streaming now on Paramount Plus and Hulu.
Team Charles or Team Josh? After seven seasons, “Younger” fans finally got the answer to Liza’s love life — well, kinda sorta.
The series finale of Darren Star’s “Younger” put an end to Liza’s (Sutton Foster) love affair with Charles (Peter Hermann), while giving the hope of a happy ending with Josh (Nico Tortorella). The central relationship of the show between Liza and Kelsey (Hilary Duff) also saw a breakup of sorts with Kelsey announcing her move to Los Angeles, leaving both ladies with separate career greatness ahead of them.
Though Charles opted not to go to Mustique with Quinn (Laura Benanti), after giving it one last go with Liza the on-and-off couple came to a mutual decision that they weren’t going to make it long-term.

Bengaluru, Feb 9 (Ians) The ban on hundreds of Chinese apps helped domestic apps leverage the opportunity especially in the second half of 2020, dominating the total app installs in the country with 40 per cent market share, a new report said on Tuesday.
The report titled "State of App Marketing" by AppsFlyer, the global attribution leader, analysed 7.3 billion installs that were recorded in India from January 1 to November 30, 2020, including 4,519 apps covering entertainment, finance, shopping, gaming, travel, news, food and drink and utility verticals.
The data also includes 933 billion app opens and 3.0 billion remarketing conversions.
"While Chinese apps have slipped in terms of overall market share (29 per cent), Indian apps leveraged this opportunity by dominating the install volume (40 per cent) in the country," said Sanjay Trisal, Country Manager, AppsFlyer India.
The country has seen a surge in homegrown apps after the ban on Chinese apps, like ShareChat, Josh, Moj, Mitron, Chingari, Roposo, Trell and more.

Bon Jovi rode their 1987 single “Wanted Dead or Alive” — with its power-ballad metaphor about a wandering outlaw, his steel horse, and a loaded six-string — into Eighties jukebox history. And it cemented singer Jon Bon Jovi as a rock-star cowboy in the process. He returned to the Wild West theme, with cowriters Richie Sambora and Holly Knight, for a pair of songs (“Ride Cowboy Ride,” “Stick to Your Guns”) on 1988’s New Jersey too. Josh Peck has been cast as the lead of Turner & Hooch, Disney+’s adaptation of the classic 1989 buddy cop comedy feature, which has received a formal 12-episode series order.
Peck will play U.S. Marshal Scott Turner, a version of the character portrayed by Tom Hanks in the movie. The TV series reboot comes from Burn Notice creator Matt Nix and 20th Century Fox TV, where Nix is under an overall deal.

Rick Dalton, the actor played by Leonardo DiCaprio in “Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood,” does not exist. But he feels like he could, because director Quentin Tarantino has mapped out an entire filmography for Dalton that plausibly places him within a changing Hollywood in 1969.
The fake movie scenes and posters Tarantino has created for Dalton are a portrait of a certain type of actor in the ’60s: a handsome, ruggedly masculine type who would soon be replaced as the default Hollywood leading man by a more androgynous aesthetic inspired by the emerging counterculture. Tarantino has said on several occasions that Rick Dalton’s screen persona and his career trajectory are an amalgam of guys like Steve McQueen, George Maharis, Vince Edwards, Edd Byrnes, Ty Hardin and more. And if you have forgotten who some of those actors are, that’s essentially Tarantino’s point.

This article contains major Once Upon a Time in Hollywood spoilers.
In many ways, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood feels like the movie Quentin Tarantino has been building to over the last decade. A picture that takes his usual giddy historical revisionism trick and adds a wistful layer of melancholy and elegiac fear about the setting of the sun, this is a movie obsessed with the past and future, including Tarantino’s early personal history (he was six-years-old in the summer of ’69) and the tomorrow that is yet to come for his career.
Still, cast all that aside, and what remains is a heartfelt love letter to 1960s Hollywood and all the groovy things we’ve lost from that time of flower power,...
