Hugh Grant was one of the quintessential rom-com leading men of the 90s among the likes of Richard Gere and Leonardo DiCaprio. He was a popular heartthrob who managed to impress fans with his natural charm and his nonchalant humor. His roles in Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill, Bridget Jones’ Diary, and Love Actually made audiences swoon in the 90s and early 2000s.

Another one of Grant’s popular films was 2002’s Two Weeks Notice where he was paired with Sandra Bullock. The duo had met five years prior and they had discussed working together. But Grant made a pretty bad impression on Bullock by narrating what he calls a ‘disgusting story’, which led to Grant not hearing from the actress for over 3 years.

Wesley Snipes’ Blade Trilogy has a cult following with a loyal and dedicated fandom. As MCU is set to reboot the franchise with Oscar-winning star Mahershala Ali, fans have long sought the reappearance of Snipes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now, a recent rumor suggests that there is still room for Snipes’ Blade in the MCU.
Wesley Snipes as Blade
Nothing is beyond possibility, at least in the multiverse saga. Spider-Man: No Way Home is a prime example of that, as the Tom Holland starrer movie created the spectacle bringing back Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield alongside their iconic villains. In its essence, the speculation might just come true as Marvel is reportedly planning big for Avengers: Secret Wars.

Denis Leary is returning to the movies.
The actor and comedian, who hasn’t appeared in a film since 2014’s Amazing Spider-Man with Andrew Garfield, has joined the cast of Michael Showalter’s holiday comedy Oh. What. Fun. for Amazon MGM Studios.
He joins Michelle Pfeiffer, Chloë Grace Moretz, The Holdovers discovery Dominic Sessa and Felicity Jones on the call sheet.
Described as both a love letter to moms and tonally a cross between Home for the Holidays and Planes, Trains and Automobiles, the story centers on a woman named Claire Clauster (Pfeiffer) who organizes a special Christmas outing, but her family forgets her in the shuffle. By the time they realize their mistake, she’s gone missing and their Christmas is in jeopardy. Luckily, nothing will stop Claire from giving her family the holiday they deserve.

The 1990s represented a golden epoch for action cinema. This was the time which saw VHS and its digitized successor DVD introduce a whole new generation of fans to the magic of stars like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone. And those titans from the ‘80s still claimed big wins, too, at the box office and home media via the likes of Terminator 2: Judgement Day, Demolition Man, and Cliffhanger.
It was also the decade that saw audiences turn out in droves to theaters and rental stores to catch a glimpse of Steven Seagal’s flying fists in movies like Under Siege or Jean-Claude Van Damme and his trademark splits in Timecop; Jackie Chan finally got the larger American fanbase he so richly deserved thanks to the Rush Hour movies while Bruce Willis gave us Die Hard With A Vengeance, the best of all the Die Hard sequels, before pivoting...

Marco Brambilla's 1993 film "Demolition Man" has a pretty wild premise. In the near-future of 1996, a wildly destructive criminal named Simon Phoenix (Wesley Snipes) is at large and taking hostages in Los Angeles. The cop sent in to apprehend Pheonix is John Spartan (Sylvester Stallone), an officer so reckless that he's earned the nickname of Demolition Man. When Spartan finds and confronts Pheonix, he explodes the building they're in. They both escape, but an investigation reveals the bodies of the hostages in the rubble. Oops. Spartan didn't handle that operation very well.
As punishment, Spartan and Pheonix are both subjected to a new prison experiment. Instead of living in cells, prisoners are cryogenically frozen for decades and fed subliminal rehabilitation messages. Spartan is thawed in the year 2032, where the world is now overseen by a benevolent (seeming) right-wing cult leader who has whipped Los Angeles -- now San Angeles -- into shape.

Sylvester Stallone is not only one of the best actors in Hollywood but also one of the best action heroes in the industry. That is not to say that he has not tried other genres, but the action genre seems to fit him the best. His beefed-up body along with the signature snarling look and slurred speech, due to the accidental severing of a nerve during his birth, contribute to his success as an action hero.
Sylvester Stallone is gracing his fans’ screens with the second season of the Paramount Plus reality show- The Family Stallone. That being said, he is also getting ready to take over the big screen with the anticipated sequel of 1993’s Cliffhanger. During an interview, he revealed the reason for agreeing to do the reboot to be an impressive script.

In a world where superheroes, sequels, horror (thankfully) and anything IP related are king, it seems as though the risqué original thriller has gone by the wayside. Over the past ten years or so you’d be hard pressed to find anything other than The Invisible Man, You Should Have Left, Gerald’s Game, Gone Girl, or Knock, Knock that really fit the mold (albeit with some finagling) and each of those is either tied to popular literature or skews closer to the horror genre.
But the original thriller thrived in the 1990s. Also thriving during this beautiful time in Hollywood were action movies featuring two adversaries face to face on the poster and/or movie cover. Movies like Face/Off, Point Break, Demolition Man, Universal Soldier, and Broken Arrow. 1992’s Unlawful Entry combines both of these elements with two heaping sides of the stalker and slasher horror subgenres. Which is why...

Stallone belongs on the “Guaranteed to have in-stock or you get a free rental” Holy shit package wall of the video store or at the very least in an interesting role among an all-star cast like he’d been in with Cop Land a few years previous.

Sylvester Stallone will return to the top of the mountain in 2024 for Cliffhanger 2. More on the sequel here:
Earlier this year, before the Hollywood strikes sent the world of film production into a chaotic tailspin, we heard that Sylvester Stallone would be making a follow-up to his 1993 hit, Cliffhanger.
The film still ranks as one of Stallone’s best action movies and is remembered fondly. Greenland’s Ric Roman Waugh signed on to direct, the talk was of a Top Gun: Maverick-style legacy sequel – and it all sounded pretty interesting.
Fast forward to a post-strike world, and the project is thankfully still alive – although a few changes have taken place.
Waugh is no longer on the project and has, as reported by Screen Daily, been replaced by Plane director, Jean-Francois Richet. The project is truly international given that it’s a British/German co-production with an American movie star headlining,...

Sandra Bullock partially made her career off of action films like Speed and Demolition Man. Although the genre treated her well enough, she wasn’t always sure if it was designed for female actors to thrive in.
Sandra Bullock felt action films did women a disservice in the 2000s Sandra Bullock | Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic
Bullock believed the action genre became even less accommodating to female actors as time went on. Ironically, she herself experienced her breakthrough role opposite Keanu Reeves in Speed. This led to a bit of a career winning streak for Bullock that saw the Oscar-winner return to the genre a couple of times.
In 2002, she starred in the darker action thriller Murder by Numbers. Perhaps what intrigued her the most about the feature was the character she ended up playing. She felt the role was a callback to characters from another time that all but vanished in the new millennium.

Evildoers beware! Sylvester Stallone is getting back in the ring with Amazon MGM Studios to develop Samaritan 2, a sequel to the Italian Stallion’s 2022 superhero action movie. Bragi F. Schut, who wrote the first film, returns to pen the sequel, with Stallone producing alongside his Balboa Productions partner Braden Aftergood. In addition to producing the film, Stallone reprises his role as Joe from the original.
Here’s the official synopsis for Samaritan:
Thirteen-year-old Sam Cleary (Javon “Wanna” Walton) suspects that his mysterious and reclusive neighbor Mr. Smith (Sylvester Stallone), is actually a legend hiding in plain sight. Twenty-five years ago, Granite City’s super-powered vigilante, Samaritan, was reported dead after a fiery warehouse battle with his rival, Nemesis. Most believe Samaritan perished in the fire, but some in the city, like Sam, have hope that he is still alive. With crime on the rise and the city on the brink of chaos,...

It's all too easy to miss your big chance in Hollywood, whether it's by ending up in a flop through no fault of your own or missing the wrong phone call. It's a career tragedy that can happen to anyone, and it creates agonizing memories for stars still at the top of their careers. Just ask Bill Murphy about the time he did pick up his phone and wound up with a gig in "Garfield." That involved a mix-up over last names but it goes to show that anything can happen. To anyone.
The good news? Not every movie madness mixup ends in disaster. One star's missed call might be another's golden hour. A tragedy behind the scenes can create an opportunity for a fresh and far better take on a character. Science fiction definitely isn't exempt from Hollywood chaos, and in the case of some of our favorite movies,...

Sylvester Stallone says screening the 1958 Hollywood adventure fantasy flick Hercules, starring Steve Reeves, changed his life when he was 12 years of age.
“I was very lucky, in the golden age of films, when dialogue was important. In the article series Sound and Vision we take a look at music videos from notable directors. This week we take a look at Kanye West's Power, directed by Marco Brambilla. Marco Brambilla is a curious director, in that he has made features, video installations and a music video, but that his major splashes in each area are quite distinct from each other. His sole hit as a film director, Demolition Man, is often remembered for its idiosyncrasies, but is also a fairly by the numbers Stallone sci-fi action vehicle. Even if the iffy politics hint at a larger satirical slant, its commentary is quite muddled. In any case, it is somewhat of a cult classic, precisely because its rougher edges hint at an...

Artist-turned-actor Sylvester Stallone will have a retrospective of his original paintings and art pieces at the Toronto Film Festival, starting today.
The exhibit with mixed-media art, writings and memorabilia by the Rocky and Expendables star will run throughout TIFF, leading up to the world premiere of Netflix’s Stallone documentary Sly that is set to close the Toronto festival on Sept. 16 with a gala screening.
The Bell Lightbox exhibit features 12 original paintings and art pieces created by Stallone from 1975 to 2020. Most are abstract, with vivid paintbrush swirls enveloping images of boxers and commentary on Hollywood fame and royalty. One work, Family Ties, depicts a pregnant mother and a distant father and illustrates the artist’s use of a limited color palette of black, white and red.

The demon Valak, aka The Nun, is among the most infamous faces in "The Conjuring" universe. Aside from perhaps the doll Annabelle, Valak's image looms over the franchise more than any other. According to a lawsuit put forth by actress Bonnie Aarons (via The Hollywood Reporter), who played the character in "The Conjuring 2," "The Nun," and "The Nun 2," the character shows up on official merch a lot, too. Now, Aarons is asking for a cut of royalties she says she's owed, alleging via a suit obtained by THR that Warner Bros. has been exploiting her "talent, creativity, and likeness."
"The Princess Diaries" and "Mulholland Drive" actress is reportedly suing Warner Bros, New Line Cinema, and Scope Productions for breach of contract, citing a clause in her contract that ensured her a "pro-rata share" on all merch with her likeness, which her suit alleges has included "toys, dolls, decorations,...

The early nineties were arguably the heyday of brawny action. Arnold Schwarzenegger was the world’s biggest star, thanks to Total Recall and Terminator 2. Sylvester Stallone was just a little behind him with Cliffhanger and Demolition Man, but the lower-tier action stars were starting to catch up. Steven Seagal had a string of hits and was briefly about to hit the big time with Under Siege. At the same time, the Muscles from Brussels was finding his way into bigger studio fare and teamed up with arguably the greatest action director of all time for one of his best movies – Hard Target, which is celebrating the 30th anniversary of its release.

Sly, Sylvester Stallone’s career-spanning documentary for Netflix, recalling the action icon’s famous performances in Rocky to Rambo to The Expendables, is set to close the Toronto Film Festival on Sept. 16 with a world premiere at Roy Thomson Hall.
While a Netflix title, Sly is a documentary film not covered by the SAG-AFTRA TV and theatrical agreements, so the Hollywood actor, writer, director and producer could potentially be in Toronto to walk the red carpet, though his presence is not assured amid the actors strike.
Stallone’s retrospective in Toronto follows a career resurgence on TV where he stars in the Paramount+ dramedy Tulsa King, which has been renewed for a second season, and his Paramount+ family reality show, The Family Stallone, which just finished airing its eight episodes and has also been renewed for a second season.

If you’re a fan of Mel Gibson’s classic action flicks, be sure to stream them before they leave Max at the end of August.
All four “Lethal Weapon” movies and “Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome,” starring the late, great Tina Turner, will be leaving the streaming service. Luckily, you’ll have all month to watch them.
Watching the new “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” animated movie in theaters? Max has several films featuring the radical reptilians: the live-action “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze” (1991)
and “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III” (1993), as well as the animated “Tmnt” (2007).
Kaiju fans will want to check out “Godzilla” (2014), “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” (2019), “King Kong” (1933) and “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island” (2012).
Finally, if horror is your thing, six “Hellraiser” films and “The Ring Two” make great summer scares.

1995 wasn’t a good year for Sylvester Stallone at the multiplex. His summer tentpole, Judge Dredd, flopped domestically, and it was quickly followed by Richard Donner’s Assassins, which only grossed $30 million at the domestic box office. While Sly’s career had seen a few slumps, his straightforward action movies typically performed, and the failure of those two films put his clout as one of the world’s biggest stars in jeopardy. In this episode of Sylvester Stallone Revisited, we’re going to talk about a movie that was supposed to be a big-budget, commercial change of pace for the actor but wound up being the last would-be blockbuster he’d star in for years. That’s right; we’re going to talk about Rob Cohen’s Daylight.

All was not well with Sylvester Stallone’s career in the summer of 1995. Judge Dredd had come out, and, despite blockbuster business overseas, the film flopped in the all-important North American market. It would kick off a dry spell in Sly’s career, with many of his follow-up movies also doing poorly, to the point that in the early 2000s, he was stuck doing low-rent movies that went direct to video, such as Shade and Avenging Angelo. Of course, a major comeback for the Italian Stallion was just around the corner. Still, in this episode of Stallone Revisited, we look back at his follow-up to Judge Dredd, Assassins, which, on paper, should have been one of Sly’s classics but has gone on to become something of an obscure, underrated outing on his CV.

Max’s first full month without ‘HBO’ in its rebranded title has a selection that kicks off summer 2023 in fine fashion. Three of the four iterations of “A Star Is Born,” including the most recent remake starring Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga, are streaming on Max in June. The 1954 and 1976 films land June 1, while the 2018 version arrives June 8.
To prepare for Margot Robbie’s performance in “Barbie” come July, one could watch one of her more intense roles as Tonya Harding in “I, Tonya” (2017). For some lighter summer watches, viewers might consider “Dolphin Tale” (2010), “Grease” (1978), “Hairspray” (2007) or “Tooth Fairy” (2010).
“Magic Mike’s Last Dance” (2023) starring Channing Tatum and Salma Hayek Pinault lands at Max after its theatrical release in February this year. Another major theatrical release from 2022, “Avatar: The Way of Water” (2022), swims onto the streamer starting June 7.

HBO Max is no more. In its place are…HBO and Max. Warner Bros. So here is everything you can expect to find on Max (including every new HBO show) this month.
Even though June 2023 is the first full month of Max’s existence without the helpful “HBO” modifier in front of it, literally all of its major original offerings are thanks to the pay cable network. When Jon Favreau made "Iron Man" in 2008, he, like many, assumed it might be the last time audiences ever saw the character on the big screen. As such, he included a few cute in-jokes that were never really meant to be extrapolated into future movies. One was the post-credits stinger when Iron Man was approached by Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) about joining a team called the Avengers Initiative. Favreau has admitted in interviews that it was meant to be nothing more than a wink to fans, and not a promise of things to come.
The other in-joke was the film's last line of dialogue. When asked if he knew anything about the mysterious armor-clad superhero that had been rocketing around the world disarming terrorists, Tony Stark winked and said out loud "I am Iron Man." In superhero comics, his secret identity would have been vital. With that single line of dialogue,...

Some actors choose to live life on the edge. In Sylvester Stallone‘s case, he’s about to leap off the edge and hang by a secured cable for Cliffhanger 2! That’s right, friends, the Italian Stallion is strapping in for a reboot sequel to 1993’s Cliffhanger! Stallone returns to the vertigo-inducing action property, with Ric Roman Waugh directing. Mark Bianculliis writing the script, with Neal H. Mortiz’s Original Film producing with Rocket Science. Stallone and Braden Aftergood’s Balboa Productions is also getting in on the producing action. Intro: After the success of Lethal Weapon 3, it was a given there would be a fourth film in the franchise. But the next sequel proved to be surprisingly difficult to get into production. Until Warner Bros. realized they were heading into 1998 without a surefire summer hit on their hands. They gave Lethal Weapon 4 the greenlight and the movie was thrown together in a mad scramble. Twenty-five years later, it’s time to look back at the results of that rush job in this episode of Revisited.

On the eve of its 30th birthday, Super Mario Bros.––the 1993 film, not the groundbreaking video game––might be due for critical reappraisal. Dubbed “a complete waste of time and money” by Roger Ebert, rejected by Mario’s custodians at Nintendo, and described with utter contempt by its own stars, it has enjoyed three decades of cultural life as a punchline about the dismal standards of game-to-movie adaptations. Yet the tonally confused kids’ movie, viewed in retrospect of a fully Marvelized Hollywood, recalls a time when genuinely weird, mutant art could sometimes break out of the franchise-blockbuster laboratories. Directed by Rocky Morton and Annabel Jankel, the spousal duo behind cult cyberpunk sensation Max Headroom, it liberally reimagines the vaguely defined Mario lore of plumbers, princesses, mushrooms, and dinosaurs into a gothic urban fever dream. Pursuing a kidnapped girl, the titular brothers––Bob Hoskins as Mario, adopting a wheezing, gesticulating meatball...

The sexless, violence-free world of the 1993 Sylvester Stallone-starring science fiction movie "Demolition Man" is a pretty fascinating satire of our own corporate dystopia. Cities have become mega-cities and the corporations that survived the Franchise Wars rule all, which means that all restaurants are now owned by one franchise: Taco Bell. Some people might be thrilled to discover that all dining establishments are now Taco Bells, while others get heartburn just thinking about it -- but what about the film's writer, Daniel Waters? Waters had the not-enviable task of picking up a script penned by Robert Reneau and Peter M. Lenkov and turning it into something palatable for 1990s audiences. And while it turns out the whole Taco Bell thing wasn't his idea, he absolutely loved it.
In a 2020 interview with Vulture, Waters was asked about his feelings regarding Taco Bell being the only restaurant left in the world, and...

Marco Brabilla's 1993 film "Demolition Man" was amusing when it was first released, but has become whimsically prescient as time has passed. Set largely in 2032, "Demolition Man" is a utopian film about how humanity has learned to be peaceful and to get along. They achieved this through an extreme right-wing televangelist messiah figure named Dr. Cocteau. People no longer touch physically, cussing is met by strict fines, and the only business to have survived the bloody Franchise Wars was Taco Bell, the fanciest restaurant in town. Anything that's bad for you is outlawed, including the consumption of salt. Most amusingly, toilet paper has been replaced by a technology that Sgt. John "The Demolition Man" Spartan (Sylvester Stallone) describes as "three seashells."
Audiences will get no points for guessing that this so-called utopia actually houses secrets, that poverty and oppression still exist, and that its bland sexlessness is actually a proper dystopia.

1993 was a banner year for Sylvester Stallone. While he had started the nineties on shaky ground due to the failure of Rocky V and his two comedies, Oscar and Stop or My Mom Will Shoot, the back-to-back success of Cliffhanger and Demolition Man reestablished Sly as one of Hollywood’s biggest action heroes. For his follow-up, he would pick another action flick, albeit one that embraced elements of another genre quickly gaining popularity in Hollywood: The erotic thriller.
Flashback to 1992. The movie Basic Instinct was a worldwide smash and established Sharon Stone as the biggest sex symbol of the day. A veteran actress with a career going back a decade, her performance as the murderous but insanely alluring Catherine Trammel made her a cultural icon. She followed it up with another steamy thriller, 1993’s Sliver, also a hit, and The Specialist would be her last entry into the cycle of erotic thrillers,...

Face Off journeys into the Future for an epic battle: Demolition Man vs. Minority Report!
We’ve seen many different and iconic visions of futuristic societies in film, from the distinctive fire-belching skyline and perpetual rain of Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner to the towering chaos of New York in The Fifth Element. There’s the grimy concrete of Dredd’s overcrowded Mega City One, the utopian domes of Logan’s Run, the vibrant cyberpunk metropolis of Akira’s Neo Tokyo, and who could forget the hoverboards and holograms of Back to the Future Part 2’s more pleasant Hill Valley circa 2015. Huh, it’s weird to think that all Back to the Future movies take place in the past now.
But for this episode, we’re going to visit the worlds of two other well-known sci-fi/action movies that, perhaps surprisingly, share a few similarities: Steven Spielberg’s Minority Report starring Tom Cruise and Colin Farrell,...

Nigel Hawthorne was a revered actor of stage and screen, whose dignified presence elevated any project. Before his passing in 2001, he appeared in numerous Royal Shakespeare Company productions, and became a household name in the UK for his roles in popular BBC series "Yes, Minister" and "Yes, Prime Minister." The winner of six BAFTA awards, Hawthorne crafted a career as a respected character actor, performing on Broadway and appearing in acclaimed projects from Steven Spielberg's "Amistad" to the Ian McKellan-led "Richard III." He also did "Demolition Man."
A product of Sylvester Stallone's team-up with action producer extraordinaire, Joel Silver, "Demolition Man" is exactly the kind of over-the-top '90s blockbuster you'd expect to come out of that pairing. It's about John Spartan (Stallone), an LAPD cop who gets cryogenically frozen, only to be thawed out in 2032 to help track down his arch nemesis, Simon Phoenix (Wesley Snipes). Phoenix...

By 1993, Sylvester Stallone was an established action star, thanks to three "Rambo" films and five "Rocky" movies. But after his rival, Arnold Schwarzenegger, tricked him into starring in the abject "Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot", the then-46-year-old needed to reassert himself. And so, '93 was the year Stallone returned to action, first as Ranger Gabe Walker in rock climbing thriller "Cliffhanger," before facing off against Wesley Snipes in "Demolition Man."
The latter was the project of big-time action producer Joel Silver, the man responsible in large part for the "Lethal Weapon" and "Die Hard" franchises. "Demolition Man" saw Stallone play John Spartan, an LAPD cop who's given a 70-year-long "cryo-sentence" after being wrongfully convicted of indirectly killing hostages in pursuit of his criminal nemesis, Simon Phoenix (Snipes). He's thawed out in the year 2032 to help the police track down Phoenix, who was also cryogenically frozen but escaped after being thawed out for parole.
