As the saying goes, ‘every great man is inspired by another great man to reach their full potential’. Well, this sentiment could not ring truer than in the case of Gene Hackman & Kevin Costner.
For the most part, viewers recognized Costner from the hit drama series Yellowstone, but he was popular throughout the 1990s for other roles as well. Beginning his career as an extra in low-budget productions, he progressed to more mainstream roles in acclaimed flicks, including Dances with Wolves and No Way Out.

Besides, he has shown a tremendous amount of endurance. Costner got up and over the critically panned films Waterworld and The Postman, which could have easily ended his career. And later, he spellbound audiences once again with his exceptional Yellowstone performance on the Paramount Network.

Kevin Costner has established himself not just as a notable actor but also as a respected filmmaker, with renowned works such as Dances with Wolves. His stature in the industry has led numerous individuals to express their desire to collaborate with him. Marvel actor Chris Hemsworth similarly pursued an opportunity to appear in a Costner film, only to face disappointment with a rejection.

The iconic actor, director, and Hollywood heartthrob Kevin Costner has long been known for his audacious decisions in both on- and off-screen roles (such as his Yellowstone exit). But his latest move might leave fans and critics alike with a sense of confusion—and maybe a little bit of envy.
The former star of Yellowstone revealed recently that he did cast his son in Horizon: An American Saga without even holding a traditional audition. The two-part story of the forthcoming flick has been Costner’s passion project. Entertainment Tonight was informed by the two-time Oscar winner about his commitment to the work on this Western epic.

The Western is one of the many genres that have endured in the vast canon of American film. And with Horizon: An American Saga set for release soon, all eyes will be on Kevin Costner to prove that the Western is still as appealing as it ever was.
It would not be incorrect, of course, to suggest that Costner’s forthcoming passion project is pushing the boundaries of his line of work. The Western epic is a big risk for the California-born actor, given how much of his own money went into financing the flick, which will be released in two parts.
Starring Sam Worthington, Costner, and Sienna Miller, among others, the film is set during the American Civil War.

Even though the backdrop and main idea of Horizon: An American Saga is fairly well-known, Costner might still score a career-high with this film.

Kevin Costner is one of the most talented actor-directors in the whole film industry. Having starred and directed one of the most famous Western movies of all time, Dances with Wolves, the Yellowstone star was at the top of his career in the late ’80s and ’90s.

Alan Ritchson’s role as Jack Reacher in the Amazon Prime Video series Reacher is the second iteration of the popular character. Based on Lee Child’s Jack Reacher novels, the first cinematic adaptation of the character was played by Tom Cruise in Christopher McQuarrie’s Jack Reacher and its sequel Jack Reacher: Never Go Back.
While Cruise’s iteration received mixed responses from the fans, Alan Ritchson’s depiction received better responses, especially for his look. The Titans star revealed that he channeled one character that he was inspired by Kevin Costner’s Waterworld during his audition for the series. He mentioned that the decision almost caused him to lose out on the role.

It’s hard to imagine anyone other than Alan Ritchson in the role of the humungous Jack Reacher in Amazon Prime Video’s Reacher. Trekkies who were there in 1994 may remember the incredibly fast turn-around for "Star Trek: The Next Generation." The final episode of the series, "All Good Things..." aired on May 23, and the first feature film adaptation of the show, "Star Trek: Generations," was released in theaters on November 18. In the intervening six months, Trekkies would be able to tide themselves over with ten new episodes of "Deep Space Nine." Even though a seminal TV series in the "Star Trek" universe was coming to an end, there was no drought to suffer through.

One can see their apprehension in Berman's choice of story: thanks to a magical temporal nexus, Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart) was able to meet up with Captain Kirk (William Shatner) who was presumed dead 87 years prior. It’s a fairly big month on Prime Video in March, at least compared to the other streaming service offerings! There are are two major films arriving on Amazon’s streamer. The first is a remake of the Patrick Swayze action classic Road House. Stepping into the late Swayze’s shoes? A crazy-jacked Jake Gyllenhaal, who really seemed to want to go the extra mile for this project.
The other big film coming to Prime Video is Ricky Stanicky, and the plot sounds really fun! It follows three friends who have always blamed their mistakes on an imaginary guy called Ricky Stanicky. When they have to finally introduce people to Stanicky, they decide to hire a washed-up actor (John Cena) to impersonate him. Hilarity ensues, maybe? But if neither of those make your watchlist, there’s also the return of the animated hit series Invincible.

Kevin Costner, renowned for his compelling portrayal in the acclaimed TV series Yellowstone, has left an indelible mark on audiences worldwide. However, his unexpected departure from the hit show last year cast a shadow over his involvement.
Yet, in a surprising turn of events, Costner has emerged with a bold venture, poised to captivate audiences once again: the Western epic film, Horizon: An American Saga.

What makes this endeavor particularly daring is Costner’s decision to personally finance and contribute his own money to the production. No, it’s not the 1990s or the early aughts, but Kevin Costner is back in the directing game in a truly big way this year with a two-part film, “Horizon: An American Saga.” After Oscar glory with “Dances With Wolves,” (seven Oscars include Best Picture and Best Director), Costner stumbled in his career pretty hard, both in directing and otherwise. 1995’s “Waterworld” was a notorious bomb, and then just one year later, 1996’s “The Postman,” his sophomore directorial effort was another flop.

In the summer of 2022, Netflix released “Halftime,” a glossy, shiny, and intermittently revelatory documentary focused on global icon Jennifer Lopez. That offering found unexpected (if highly unrelatable) pathos in the star’s distress over not being nominated for an Oscar for her (quite good) turn in “Hustlers.” Just twenty months later, and yet another streamer is now releasing its own glossy, shiny, and intermittently revelatory film project focused on global icon Jennifer Lopez. The pathos, though? That’s mostly missing, but certainly not for lack of trying.
The project comes from the mind of Lopez herself, who also co-financed the effort. It’s clunkily titled (and punctuated) as “This Is Me…Now: A Love Story,” linking it inextricably with Lopez’s latest studio album, which just so happens to be dropping the same day as its “cinematic” component. Synergy!

In the 1995 movie "Waterworld," Kevin Costner was the draw in more ways than one. To much of the audience, he was still the glamorous movie star who had managed to pull off a blockbuster "Robin Hood" movie despite his inability to successfully nail an English accent. To others, he seemed like he might be a potential trainwreck on the verge of derailment. "Waterworld" had fallen victim to many behind-the-scenes tales of sinking sets, director fights, and Costner rewriting the script to make himself look better. Ultimately, for one reason or another, enough people were curious about the film that it turned a profit. However difficult he may have been behind the scenes, the star turned out to still have it.
Within the movie, however, the person everyone wants to see is Enola, a nine year-old girl whose back tattoo features an encoded map to the last bit of dry land on a post-climate change world.

In recent years, Kevin Costner has been seen less on the big screens and more on his television series “Yellowstone,” currently bringing astounding ratings to the Paramount Network. Westerns have been good to Costner at the movies, with his most successful winning him two Oscars as producer and director of “Dances with Wolves” in 1990.
Costner almost had a career that ended before it really started. However, his role as a suicide victim in flashback scenes for “The Big Chill” was cut by director Lawrence Kasdan. There’s something about loners that just seems to sit well with Kevin Costner. In several of his films, he plays the type of character who might be described as a “lone wolf,” particularly in movies like Waterworld, Dances with Wolves, and The Postman. The last one, in particular, featured Costner as a loner in a post-apocalyptic world. At the time of The Postman’s release, Costner acknowledged playing those types of roles a lot, but he didn’t think it was really part of a pattern. Hand over your crowns, Batman and Iron Man, it's Mario and Freddy Fazbear's time to reign dominant over the box office. Hollywood works in phases. We’re in the middle of a vast superhero movie phase, which, maybe, seems to be on the downslide. Twenty-five years ago, war movies were all the rage in the wake of Saving Private Ryan, and once those taped off, historical epics became the blockbuster of choice for studios. Indeed, it was the smash success of Braveheart and Gladiator that paved the way for this run of films which started to tape off in the mid-aughts after a few mammothly pricey films, such as The Last Samurai and Troy, only earned modest profits for their studios. One such film was 20th Century Fox’s Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World. It earned critical raves but cost too much to become the franchise Fox was hoping for, with it being based on a long-running series of books by Patrick O’Brien. Yet, the movie holds...

Daniel Goldberg, the frequent Ivan Reitman and Todd Phillips collaborator who co-wrote and produced the Bill Murray starrers Stripes and Meatballs and shepherded other films including Space Jam, Old School, Road Trip and the Hangover trilogy, has died. He was 74.
Goldberg died Wednesday in Los Angeles, his brother, Deuce Bigalow screenwriter Harris Goldberg, told The Hollywood Reporter. “He was a gentle, lovely guy, he was my hero,” Harris said. “He was everything I measured myself against.”
No cause of death was immediately available.
Survivors also include his wife, British Columbia native Ilona Herzberg, a producer on films including The River Wild, Evan Almighty, Waterworld, Rachel Getting Married and Feds, the 1988 comedy that starred Rebecca De Mornay and Mary Gross and was the only feature her husband directed in Hollywood.

Throughout his career, Academy Award winner Kevin Costner has been a part of many successful movies. He has also starred in some real duds! One of those failures that Costner was famously a part of was the 1995 action film, Waterworld. Considered a box office bomb at the time of the release in the USA, the film became profitable after it was released internationally and on home video. The making of the film was possibly a movie within itself, marred with behind the scenes disagreements, so much so that the director, Kevin Reynolds, left the film and Costner took over directing and other creative decisions. The film has now found a cult following which may be gratifying to the stars and filmmakers now, but at the time of the release Costner told us before the movie was released, that the film took a toll on him professionally and personally. Sometimes you have to go through hell to make a great movie. Just ask Alexander Skarsgård, who said that the grueling shoot for Robert Eggers’ “The Northman” left him “so exhausted that you want to cry.”
Like “Jaws,” “Apocalypse Now,” and “Titanic” before it, “The Northman” overcame filming hardships to earn rave reviews, and the brutal production anecdotes only added to its legacy. But not every movie with a hellish production history can be so lucky. Just ask the casts and crews of films like “Heaven’s Gate” and “Waterworld,” who were put through hell only for their films to become notorious box office flops.
Movie shoots can be painful for myriad reasons: difficult actors, loopy directors, dangerous conditions, and even acts of God can impact what ends up on screen. Something that sounded like a good idea during pre-production (Noel Marshall’s idea to use real tigers and lions on “Roar” seemed awesome!

For fans of Lee Child's Jack Reacher novels, Alan Ritchson might be the perfect on-screen version of the retired military policeman, but it took a hell of a lot for Amazon to cast him in their streaming series. In fact, Ritchson was initially passed over by Amazon for "Reacher," only getting the job after a second audition and several meetings with producers.
All of that seems strange in light of the fact that "Reacher" broke Amazon streaming records and topped the Nielsen charts upon its debut in 2022. Not only that, fans responded positively to Ritchson himself. After Tom Cruise failed to embody the imposing physicality of Child's massive protagonist in two movies, Ritchson finally delivered a believably hefty Jack Reacher. But there was more to the character than Ritchson's 235-pound frame.

Filmmakers’ passion projects can easily spiral out of control, pushing directors and studios down a hole it could take decades to get out of. Right now, two Oscar-winning directors, Francis Ford Coppola and Kevin Costner, have their own in production, both of which have been on their minds since the 1980s.
Sitting down for a joint interview with Deadline, both Coppola and Costner gave their thoughts on the financial risks they have taken throughout their careers and what they hope comes of their projects: Coppola with sprawling epic Megalopolis and Costner with four-part western Horizon, both of which have budgets that reportedly exceed $100 million.
For Megalopolis, Coppola put up his own cash; but with that, he says, comes feeling like a true auteur. “Authorship only means the film is honest to the theme and the premise. It has to be personal, real; it can’t be a synthesis of what...

Dennis Hopper was the Oscar-nominated performer who experienced many ups-and-downs throughout his career, with his off-screen antics often overshadowing his onscreen talent. Yet many of his movies have stood the test of time. Let’s take a look back at 15 of Hopper’s greatest films, ranked worst to best.
Born in 1936, Hopper made his movie debut at the age of 19 in “Rebel Without a Cause” (1955), where he became fast friends with James Dean. He had an even bigger role in “Giant” (1956), which would be Dean’s last film before his untimely death in 1955. Hopper struggled for several years trying to find his voice, making small appearances in such films as “Cool Hand Luke” (1967) and “True Grit”(1969).
He burst onto the scene with the counterculture phenomenon “Easy Rider” (1969), which he also directed and co-wrote (with co-star Peter Fonda and Terry Southern). The story of two bikers (Hopper and Fonda) traveling across...

Spoiler Alert: This post contains spoilers for “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” now playing in theaters.
Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” was a huge undertaking for makeup head Alexei Dmitriew and hair department head Cassie Russek, who used over 22,500 prosthetics, 500 wigs and 130 facial hairpieces to create the movie’s galactic creatures. That number broke the world record for most prosthetics used in a film, previously held by “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.”
From Will Poulter’s Adam Warlock to villain The High Evolutionary (Chukwudi Iwuji) to the new hybrid humanimals, the duo were tasked with creating original looks as the Guardians set out on their newest mission.
It took a village of 75 makeup artists on set to complete the looks — sometimes there would be 90. “We had two people per prosthetic so we could just keep the times down,” Dmitriew says. “On this, we used 22,542 prosthetics, 117 pairs of contact lenses,...

Once upon a time being a nerd was looked at as a negative, with depictions of them being scrawny losers with glasses and high pitched voices who loved comic books and wouldn’t know how to throw a baseball unless Captain America taught them how. But something happened. Geek culture became mainstream culture and the people who brought it to us were the ones who once felt so alienated by their seemingly uncool passions. Enter Joss Whedon who used his childhood isolations to craft some of the biggest cult hit TV shows and penned many groundbreaking screenplays – everything from sci-fi to horror to action adventure to animation to Shakespeare and some of the biggest superhero flicks ever. But behind closed doors there seemed to be a different tale, a story of a man so consumed with ego that he made everyone else tremble in terror around him. It would seem...

With “Evil Dead Rise” earning good reviews (96% and 7.5/10 on Rotten Tomatoes) and solid buzz out of its SXSW premiere, New Line wasted no time in locking down director Lee Cronin’s next feature. Next up will be an original horror film, titled “Thaw,” for which Cronin will rewrite the current draft.
The picture, originally written by Jeremy Passmore, is set years after the polar ice caps have melted with concurrent rising sea levels. “Thaw” centers on a group of survivors at sea searching for a new home. They discover an inhabitable town only to realize… well this isn’t “Waterworld” folks.
Van Toffler and David Gale of Gunpowder & Sky as well as Adam Goldworm of Aperture, who produced HBO’s upcoming adaptation of Grady Hendrix’s novel “The Final Girl Support Group,” are producing.

Twenty-five years ago, both Titanic and the 70th annual Academy Awards at which it was crowned best picture made history. The film’s victory, however, was not preordained. Its Oscar campaign had to overcome naysayers who first doubted the film would be a success and then held its success against it. As for the ceremony itself, to borrow the title of an earlier British film about the ship that couldn’t sink, and then did, it was a night to remember.

James Cameron (Titanic Writer/Director/Producer/Editor) There are parts of it that are very murky and there are parts of it that are quite vivid. The parts I remember the most are the setups themselves, the camera placement and how it was all accomplished. I remember all that quite vividly. The Academy Awards are a bit of a blur. But I’ll do my best.

After twenty-five years, James Cameron’s Titanic is still one of the biggest-grossing films of all time (number 8 on the all-time domestic list and number 3 on the international list – not adjusted for inflation) and an indisputable classic. Everyone assumed Cameron’s movie would be a flop back in 1997, with many claiming it would be the next Waterworld or Heaven’s Gate before it opened. To rub salt in the wound, the movie opened soft opposite the James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies, but then the movie displayed incredible staying power at the box office. This would become a recurring thing for Cameron, with Avatar: The Way of Water recently posting an underwhelming opening but then legging out to become one of the top ten highest-grossing movies of all time – and counting.

It's easy to forget that Joss Whedon (whose entire career has been reevaluated since allegations about his abusive behavior became public) was once one of the most sought after screenwriters in Hollywood. Before his unprecedented success with "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" (a show that remains deeply beloved despite the shadow Whedon's misconduct has cast over its legacy) and his ascent to geek royalty after writing and directing "The Avengers," Whedon was an in-demand script doctor punching up the scripts for "Toy Story," "Waterworld," and "X-Men."
Director Jan de Bont's bomb-on-a-bus high concept action hit "Speed" launched Sandra Bullock into stardom, helped to cement Keanu Reeves as a legitimate action star, and could have catapulted Whedon to even greater heights -- if he would have ever gotten credit for his contributions to the script. You might not know this if you're under 25, but Kevin Costner was a huge movie star before he was the world's biggest TV star. Yep, before playing the borderline psychopathic patriarch John Dutton in Taylor Sheridan's insanely popular "Yellowstone," Costner starred in many of the 1980s and '90s' biggest movies.
Costner first showed up on the silver screen in bit parts in the early 1980s. He started stealing scenes in supporting parts, quickly establishing himself as one of his era's most bankable "everyman" leading men, alongside Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson, and Tom Hanks. Costner's legendary run as an A-list movie star included Academy Award winners, bonafide blockbusters, cinematic classics, and, yes, some of the biggest bombs of all time. I'm not going to talk (much) about those. Instead, I'm going to count down Costner's 14 best movies ever. If you're planning your own personal Costner movie marathon, check out this list.

There isn't a single historical figure of the 19th century whose life has been more mythologized via motion pictures than Wyatt Earp. Several great Westerns have been dedicated to his exploits. John Ford's "My Darling Clementine," John Sturges' "Gunfight at the O.K. Corral," and George P. Cosmatos' "Tombstone" are widely considered the best of the bunch. As for Lawrence Kasdan's "Wyatt Earp," a three-hour, swing-for-the-bleachers epic that hit theaters six months after the release of "Tombstone," the consensus holds that it is a film in search of a greater purpose. It's the whole Earp story, but to what end?
One of the most fascinating facets of Earp's life is that he moved to Los Angeles, and served as a technical advisor on silent Westerns made by Tom Mix and John Ford. You'd think a cinephile like Kasdan would want to delve into this subject with antiheroic vigor,...

Jimmy Kimmel watched the Golden Globes on Tuesday, but as he noted in his monologue Wednesday night, he was one of the few. The ratings were some of the lowest the show has ever had.
Kimmel basically attributed that to the racism scandal that rocked the Hollywood Foreign Press association in 2021 and led to the 2022 ceremony being held as a private event. The HFPA has since made some reforms but, as Kimmel also noted, these reforms are fairly tepid considering the problem. So much so that, in Kimmel’s view, the Hpfp is barely better than the Republican Party.
The lead up to the segment was a set of jokes about the brutal winter rainstorms that have soaked Southern California over the last week. After noting the sinkholes appearing on highways in the LA area, he noted, “The Golden Globes fell into a sinkhole last night.”

In "Air Force One," Harrison Ford famously pushes a Russian terrorist out of a moving jet, growling the action movie one-liner, "Get off my plane!" However, if Hollywood history had gone a different way, it might not have been Ford's plane at all.
"Air Force One" was one of many action films in the 1990s to employ a "Die Hard" scenario whereby one man takes on a group of terrorists led by a guy with a foreign accent in a single location. Not content to simply be labeled "'Die Hard' on a plane", "Air Force" set itself apart from the rest of the pack by being "'Die Hard' on the President's plane." Its premise saw Ford playing President James Marshall, a Vietnam vet who makes a public pledge not to negotiate with terrorists, only to find his own private jet, Air Force One, hijacked by some.
