Although it may have fared enough to make up for any losses, Morbius is still unarguably one of the most critically panned movies of all time from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Despite holding hot talents like Michael Keaton, Tyrese Gibson, and Jared Leto, the film still underperformed among viewers because of things ranging from its storyline to the character arcs to not delivering perfectly.
Morbius (2022).
That being said, one of the major reasons why the film failed to serve its audience’s expectations was because it cut off some of those brutal scenes that could have garnered a lot of fan support. One of these included Gibson’s crazy fight scene as well, which was shown in the trailer but never made it to the final cut — something that inevitably left even the actor disappointed.

A decade into her solo career, Beyoncé effectively evaded irrelevancy by wresting control of her own narrative. After her 2011 album 4 failed to produce a Top 10 hit—to date, her only album to do so—the singer began dropping albums without any pre-release promotion, sidestepping chart expectations and reimagining the traditional pop album release strategy. Since then, she’s done few interviews and often glides into awards shows donning dark shades and a straight face, shrewdly creating a superstar mystique in the vein of Michael Jackson and Prince.
That approach, thankfully, has been accompanied by some of Beyoncé’s most creative, political, and inspired work to date. Her 2016 visual album Lemonade drew on her personal experiences as a Black woman to comment on feminism and racism in the Me Too and Black Lives Matter era, while its follow-up, 2022’s Renaissance, kept the focus squarely on the music, inspired by and dedicated...

Beyonce‘s career breakthrough came in the 1990s as a teenage member of Destiny’s Child. But since then she has established herself as one of the biggest music stars of the 21st century. So naturally it’s challenging to narrow down the greatest hits of her career … not that we let that stop us from trying, though. Scroll down for our countdown of her best songs — including “Countdown”! Do you agree with how we rank them?
Destiny’s Child had several hits including “Survivor” and “Bills, Bills, Bills,” but it was “Say My Name” that earned Beyonce her first Grammys when she was only 19: Best R&b Duo/Group Performance and Best R&b Song. She has since become one of the most awarded individuals in Grammy history, the most awarded woman in history, and the most nominated woman in history. But most of the top categories have eluded her.

Empress Of’s For Your Consideration is a celebration of Lorely Rodriguez’s voice as both an artist and vocalist. Where a similar artist might use synth pads as musical accompaniment, Rodriguez inserts the hum of her own voice. On the title track of her fourth studio album, the Honduran-American singer rearranges her breathing into a shuffling rhythm, while “Femenine” samples her vocals to serve various functions, including as percussion.
For Your Consideration can’t be classified as hyperpop per se, but the album’s sonic manipulations and their queer implications owe something to the subgenre. “Femenine”—the title of which subverts the Spanish language’s binary gender system, ending with an ambiguous “e” instead of a masculine “o” or feminine “a”—is about a woman’s desire to dominate a man. The song’s angular melody is pitched down, often mid-syllable, to emulate a masculine voice before Rodriguez responds in her natural tone.

Taraji P. Henson is going to keep telling her truth.
As she took the stage at the 2024 ABFF Honors on Sunday night, “The Color Purple” star pointed to a tattoo on her left bicep that spells out those words exactly: “The Truth.”
“If you are alive and God blessed you with another day to live, it is your job to tell your truth,” Henson told the crowd gathered for the American Black Film Festival’s marquee gala. “Because by you telling your truth, you set yourself free and somebody else free. When we stay quiet, nothing changes. The squeaky wheel gets fixed.”
That ideology is something Henson’s learned to keep close over the years, particularly when it comes to navigating Hollywood.

Taraji P. Henson showed off one of her tattoos as she took to the stage at the American Black Film Festival Honors on Sunday night.
“I got this tattoo a year ago, ‘The truth,’” she said, raising her left arm to the crowd, “because at the end of the day, that’s all we have, our truth. And if you are alive and God blessed you with another day to live, it is your time to tell the truth. Because by you telling the truth, you’re setting yourself free and somebody else free. Actor Taraji P. Henson became a more notable name thanks to her work in projects like Empire and Hidden Figures. But this success might’ve felt bittersweet for the actor, who has been candid about feeling overlooked in the film industry.

In the 2010s, Henson reached the success she’d been striving for. She was steadily building her portfolio at a young age with small roles in popular television shows such as ER, Pacific Blue, and CSI.

It’s a fairly packed month on Hulu this February thanks to the addition of some interesting TV shows from FX and ABC. While the streamer’s own original content is somewhat limited – Life + Beth is returning for season 2 – you can also catch the new series of Feud this month. The new installment in Ryan Murphy’s juicy anthology show is based on the bestseller Capote’s Women: A True Story of Love, Betrayal, and a Swan Song for an Era by Laurence Leamer, and tells the story of Truman Capote’s betrayal and fall-out with New York’s most glamorous socialites. The cast is absolutely stacked, with Naomi Watts, Diane Lane, Chloë Sevigny and Calista Flockhart all swearing delicious revenge on Tom Hollander’s Capote.
Also via Hulu in February comes the third season of Abbott Elementary, along with new episodes of The Connors, The Good Doctor, Will Trent,...

Empress Of has announced her fourth studio album: For Your Consideration, due March 22nd. Today, along with the announcement, she shared the single “What’s Love” featuring Muna.
For Your Consideration will be Empress Of’s first full-length release since 2020’s I’m Your Empress Of, and follows 2022’s Save Me EP. Spanning 11 tracks, the new record’s press release explains that it will be “a bi-lingual album that embraces camp and fantasy playing with the idea of Hollywood.”
In a statement, Empress Of’s Lorely Rodriguez explained that the title of the album is a reference to an ex-lover. “I was in love with a director and he was announcing his ‘For Your Consideration’ campaign for the Oscars,” she said. “He took me up on a hill and said he was emotionally unavailable and he kind of broke my heart. Did you know that the “P” in Taraji P. Henson stands for Prolific? Just kidding. It actually stands for Penda, which in Swahili means “hope/love.”
But prolific might actually be too small a word to contain the wealth of Henson’s ambitious, wide-ranging career: Oscar-nominated blockbusters, must-see TV, a primetime musical (NBC’s “Annie Live!”) and movies known for their eminent re-watchability.
Now, as the tantalizing, tender-hearted Southern belle Shug Avery in Blitz Bazawule’s musical adaptation of “The Color Purple,” Henson is capping a banner year in which she could have become an Egot recipient with her 2023 work alone: her Emmy-nominated performance as Quinta Brunson’s cash-strapped mom on “Abbott Elementary”; being a principal on the “Purple” soundtrack; and making her first foray as a Broadway producer with the critically acclaimed “Jaja’s African Hair Braiding.” B

As Jeffrey Wright and Taraji P. Henson sit down to discuss their acclaimed performances — as cantankerous novelist Thelonious “Monk” Ellison in “American Fiction” and sensuous singer Shug Avery in “The Color Purple” — Wright is eager to address one topic first: their shared hometown. It turns out both acting titans hail from Washington, D.C. “I’m wondering if we might be family,” Wright, an Emmy and Tony winner, jokes. But he’s truly curious about how growing up in the nation’s capital has informed Henson’s acting. She credits the city’s “tough audiences” — and her hard-earned diploma from Howard University — with giving her the thick skin she needed to create an iconic character like Cookie on “Empire,” as well as for her Oscar-nominated turn in “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.”

Snoop Dogg announced Thursday on social media that he is “giving up smoke.”
Fans quickly responded with doubtful comments such as, “But not weed, right?”
The “Drop It Like It’s Hot” rapper has his own cannabis line called “Leafs by Snoop,” which he launched in 2005. And one of his signature team-ups with Dr. Dre, 1999’s “The Next Episode,” ends with the immortal line, “Smoke weed every day.”

With Brockhampton done, Kevin Abstract is ready for a new era. On Wednesday, the musician released the single “Blanket,” a rocky, ominous track that features just a few lyrics with repeating yelps backed by a rocky guitar and drums.
Clocking in at less than 2 minutes long, “Blanket” seems to be the first taste of the new music from a rock album on the way. Abstract recently performed solo shows at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery’s Masonic Lodge and at Brooklyn’s Baby’s All Right, where he debuted the tracks on the upcoming record.

Offset has enlisted his frequent collaborator — both in and out of the studio — Cardi B for a new single called “Jealousy.” Listen to the song below.

With its list of new releases for June 2023, Prime is bringing a handful of Amazon Originals and many recent movie hits to the fold.
It’s actually quite a busy month for non-American programming in Amazon Originals department. Shows and movies like Deadloch, My Fault, and Medellín all originate from outside the U.S. and U.K. For the American and British crowd, however, the streamer is debuting two big tentpoles.

Many of the defining hits of the past 25 years have been Beyoncé songs. She’s reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 a total of eight times as a solo artist. Despite this, some of her No. 1 singles have been much more impressive than others.
Beyoncé | Kevin Winter / Staff 8. ‘Check On It’
“Check on It” is a song about sexual teasing. That’s not really a subject matter that flies today, but the tune might be more tolerable if it had a better beat. The production here sounds like nothing and Slim Thug’s verses don’t add any extra spice to the track. Regardless, Queen B’s star power brought this to the top of the Billboard Hot 100.
7. ‘Savage’
Beyoncé and Meghan Thee Stallion is a wining combination in theory. In practice, the beat of “Savage” sounds like an unfinished demo so all the effort both artists bring to the lyrics feels a little wasted.

On March 12, 2023, Ruth E. Carter won her second Academy Award for her work on the costumes of "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever." It was Carter's second Oscar win after 2018's "Black Panther," making her the first costumer in history to win Academy Awards for a movie and its sequel. Her wins are both well-deserved. Extrapolating from the fictional country originally found in the pages of Marvel Comics, "Wakanda Forever" constructed the clothes and uniforms worn by the citizens of a high-tech central African nation that, thanks to their access to a rare miracle metal and an equally rare super-powered flower, allowed them to advance centuries beyond the rest of the world. Carter designed the clothes for Wakandan royalty, the royal guard, and the country's civilians. She also had to evoke Wakandan funerary rights, as the film opens with the funeral of the original Black Panther. Carter has said that Wakandan dress...

A film becoming a cult classic is never a guarantee. Some movies have all the makings of cult classics but then end up having so much mainstream appeal that they just become classic classics instead (see: John Wick). Other movies are made with the sincerest aspirations to quality only to become fan favorites when they fall well short (see: The Room).
Still, many more films appear to have all the elements in play for cult classicdom but inevitably end up in a DVD bargain bin or streaming service backpage all the same. Most of them deserve such a fate. After all, not everything needs a fandom. Some, however, deserve a second look. A prime example is John Singleton’s 2005 action film Four Brothers.

Sometimes, the hardest thing for an artist to do is relent and let other people into their creative process. That was the self-assigned task of deem spencer, the thoughtful, Queens-born artist whose latest studio album, adultSW!M, dropped today. He tells Rolling Stone that the 12-track project is the result of seeking more creative feedback than ever over the past year because he realized that even if he loved well-regarded albums like We Think We Alone and Pretty Face, his reclusive approach was hindering his potential as a professional musician.

Rihanna‘s performance at the Super Bowl Lvii halftime show marked the Barbados-bred singer’s return to music after several years of focusing on other ventures. Needless to say, the pressure was on RiRi to deliver a stellar show. To help prepare to take the stage, the “We Found Love” singer sought inspiration from a past Super Bowl halftime show performer: Beyoncé.

Tupac Shakur left quite an impact on his peers. The beloved rapper and actor starred in five critically acclaimed movies before his death at the age of 25. Directors have been open about their belief that he would have fully transitioned into acting because his talent was that great. One who feels that way is John SIngleton, who worked closely with Tupac and continued to admire him. Singleton even has an item dedicated to Tupac in his estate that’s now worth 75k.

Beyoncé‘s performance at the grand opening of Atlantis The Royal resort in Dubai was a highly-anticipated event by Beyoncé fans around the world, despite the exclusive concert being invite-only. Baby Boy has plenty of sex and drugs, but no rock and roll. An abrasive, gripping and dark descent into the heart of London’s underbelly, this tale of a typical suburban man succumbing to his worst impulses suggests Taxi Driver meeting Uncut Gems. Yet the locale and the feel are undeniably British, with experienced low-budget Director Greg Hall (whose Dn association predates this website) turning in a particularly harrowing look at how easy it is to fall back on one’s inner weaknesses. Told with a great sense of empathy from a screenplay by George Russo who also puts in a terrifying central performance, Baby Boy makes great use of a dual-lighting scheme, carefully co-ordinated camerawork and fantastic acting to flip the script on traditional masculinity in favour of something far more nuanced and interesting. Ahead of today’s online premiere, we had the chance to talk to Hall about making violence believable,...

The new year is upon us and Amazon Prime Video is kicking things off in grand fashion. Not only are they debuting the third season of their Tom Clancy adaptation “Jack Ryan,” they’re also debuting the final season of the ambitious, Al Pacino-starring actioner “Hunters.”
Initially debuting to the service in February of 2020, right as the pandemic started, the series’ first season follows a ragtag group of Nazi hunters in 1977 New York City. The so-called Hunters discover that hundreds of high-ranking Nazi officials are living in the United States and are conspiring to create a Fourth Reich in America. The Nazi hunters, led by Pacino, will embark on a bloody quest to bring the Nazis to justice and thwart their genocidal plans. The series concluded in 2020 and has taken some time to get back to screens. Unfortunately, this second season will be a finale as well so fans...

In February of this year Hulu unleashed the true crime limited series “Pam & Tommy.” The Emmy-nominated series prompted audiences to look at the nature of celebrity culture, misogyny, and complicity in the wake of the infamous 1990s sex tape that shaped the internet. When Kendrick Lamar drops an album, it's always a big deal. His mere presence energizes hip-hop with a fervor few possess. Dubbed the authoritative conscience of rap, Lamar's genius, by critics' assessments, lies in his virtuosic storytelling. He holds a mirror to the culture he narrates. With his latest release, "Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers," K.Dot isn't afraid to reflect the culture's beauty and its darkness.
Listeners didn't know what to expect from Lamar's followup to 2017's "Damn" - a vivid album filled with sophisticated candor about vices and avoiding damnation. But his cryptic letter to fans in August 2021 did suggest that his final Top Dawg Entertainment project would be another deeply personal offering. "Love, loss, and grief have disturbed my comfort zone, but the glimmers of God speak through my music and family," Lamar wrote on his Oklama website. "While the world around me evolves, I reflect on what matters the most.

We love watching Robopine rock the house on “The Masked Singer.” On April 21, he secured a slot in the Super 6 with his silky smooth cover of the Marvin Gaye classic “Let’s Get it On.” We certainly aren’t surprised that the four judges sing his praises. But we just can’t understand how they can be so wrong about who is hiding inside the Robopine costume.

“It was fifteen years ago, and I still don’t believe it,” says DJ Paul of Three 6 Mafia, possibly the most shocking Oscar winners in history. The Memphis-spawned hip-hop group won Best Original Song in 2006 for the theme track from the Terence Howard-starring film “Hustle & Flow,” which bears the spectacularly unsubtle title of “It’s Hard Out Here for a Pimp.”
It’s safe to say the Academy Awards had never seen anything like the group’s performance on the show, either. There was an elaborate, Oscar-level set themed around the film with dancers and dazzling lights, but there was also Three 6 Mafia swaggering across the stage in street wear while the film’s co-star Taraji P. Henson belted the song’s chorus, resplendent in a glamorous white dress and heels.
After the win was announced (with unadulterated delight) by Queen Latifah, the group — Juicy J, DJ Paul and Frayser Boy,...

The Robopine is one of the best all-around contestants on season 5 of “The Masked Singer.” We weren’t surprised when he made it through to the quarter-final, “Super 8 – The Plot Chickens,” on April 21 after he nailed his cover of the Roberta Flack classic “Killing Me Softly” last week. While we were surprised that he wasn’t our first guess, Mc Hammer we can’t dismiss the fact that his voice matches exactly with another singing star.
We’d been led astray in Week 1 by Robopine when he said he was 60 and a grandfather. Those clues dissuaded us from our initial theory as to who is hiding inside this cumbersome costume. Our best guess is 42 and has a 3-year-old daughter. After re-watching all of Robopine’s performances including his debut in Week 1 with “Never Too Much” by Luther Vandross and his cover of “All of Me” by John Legend in Week...

A couple of years ago, Taraji P. Henson was searching — and struggling — to find a therapist for herself and her son.
“It was hard finding therapists who were culturally competent,” the actress told ‘Marie Claire” editor-in-chief Sally Holmes. “It’s not that they don’t exist. But pooling them together and finding them is quite daunting.”
The conversation was hosted via “Marie Claire’s” invite-only Power On Summit. The now virtual gathering included conversations from Gabrielle Union, Vanessa Pappas, Stephanie Ruhle and many more. Henson’s headline talk was a frank discussion about mental health and revealed why she decided to launch The Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation with her best friend. The actress and producer saw a demand for an organization that seeks to eradicate the stigma around mental health issues specifically in the Black community.
