Charming nightmare fuel
timothyhilditch31 January 2022
A boy finds an invisible friend the adults think it's imaginary, it turned out to be more real than they thought.

I thought it was going to be moral lesson of a boy coming out of his shell or facing his nightmares at his first day of high school. In fact a creepy rat human hybrid was following him. If I watched this as a kid I would certainly get nightmares. Couldn't they make the creature a little more appealing?

The Gnomes of the Forest
bkoganbing21 December 2017
Warning: Spoilers
An episode of the Walt Disney anthology series, Fuzz Bucket is the name of a gnome who lives underground in a forest and who like Cinderella had consequences for staying out too late. In this case the little guy becomes invisible and cannot be heard but by one person. Young grade schooler Chris Hebert is the lucky kid. But as is usual the victim of a lot of things he just can't explain. The best scene in the story is young Hebert in the principal's office trying to explain stuff that even he is finding hard to believe. The principal is played with sterness by John Vernon.

After mixing a concoction Hebert gives it to the invisible gnome and it works and we see it is small person actor Phil Fondecaro. After this it's trying to get back to the forest and his own kind and Hebert's thinking he might want to join him.

The fantasy machine at the Magic Kingdom came up way short, no pun intended, in this story. Just didn't feel this one at all. Left me with a lot of questions instead of a sense of wonder.

TERRIFYING!
BandSAboutMovies17 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Fuzzbucket is a hairy creature that lives in the swamps of Dead Man's Marsh - does he know Dr. Syn? - with many other fuzzbuckets and yet here he is, in the life of a junior high kid, creating all manner of hijinks. And yet I demand that you gaze upon him - he's invisible at times, so you'll have to wait for a bit - because Fuzzbucket looks like some kind of naked humanoid rat, the kind of creature that one imagines lives beyond the Wall of Sleep, some Lovecraftian menace sent here to take root inside our minds and then destroy them from the inside out instead of a loveable Disney Channel creature.

You know who is to blame? Mick Garris.

Yes, the man who directed Critters 2, Psycho IV and Sleepwalkers got his first directing credit with this Disney film.

I guess that also explains how John Vernon ended playing the principal. And Teen Witch Robyn Lively being in this. And Phil Fondacaro - the voice of Creeper in The Black Cauldron, as well as Sir Nigel Pennyweight from Ghoulies II and Greaser Greg in The Garbage Pail Kids Movie - playing the monster.

All I know is that if Fuzzbucket suddenly appeared in my movie room, after years of speaking to me only as a ghost, I'd react as if there was no God.

Great Movie
shesdetermined244 May 2004
This movie is the best childhood memory that I have... it is so cute and funny. I highly recommend this for any family. It was about a little boy and his invisiable friend fuzz bucket that lived in his tree house and no one could see him but the little boy. Any child would love to have this movie it differently opens the imagantion of a child. It is one of the best 80's children movies out. I would really like to see it again I remembered it a few years ago and no one could help me find it or even knew what I was talking about so If anyone out there knows where you can get this movie at please I would love to get it. Thank you very much for any information anyone out there can give to me about this movie.

Early Mick Garris short film is fun homage to "Harvey"
a_chinn24 December 2017
Oddball episode of The Wonderful World of Disney from the 80s that I caught on TCM as part of a double feature with Disney's original version of "Pete's Dragon." Both films feature a young boys with an invisible friend no one else believes is real. Compared to "Pete's Dragon," this film is more "Harvey" in that for most of the story you don't know if this it's an imaginary friend or if Fuzzbucket is real (because what self-respecting creature would name itself Fuzzbucket). This episode was written and directed by Mick Garris, who was a regular writer on Steven Spielberg's "Amazing Stories" (he'd later go on to create the brilliant "Masters of Horror" anthology series) and this episode feels very much in the vein of Spielberg's series, primary telling family friendly Twilight Zone-style of stories. The cast includes a few recognizable faces, including Joe Regalbuto (Frank from "Murphy Brown"), John Vernon (Deal Wormer from "Animal House"), and an unrecognizable Phil Fondacaro (the troll from "Troll") as Fuzzbucket. Nothing brilliant, but it's likable and will entertain.

A Masterpiece of Cinema
aidanratesmovies29 January 2020
In the beginning, God made Man and Woman. This was a mistake, as he clearly should have made Fuzzbuckets' too, with their creepy faces and patchy hair on their bodies. Fuzzbuckets come from down under the ground and are secretly living among us right now, as every day a Fuzzbucket magically wakes up out of his/her home and turns invisible and must harass small children in order to get juice to replinish its minerals and become a visible Fuzzbucket again. The spell is only officially lifted though, when a Fuzzbucket makes it back home before dark, unless the case of commercials, in which case early morning. The T.V. program of Fuzzbucket, which is not only obviously brilliant, but inspiring and one of the best programs of our time, is also a true story. Fuzzbucket's are real and should be treated with the respect of our Disney channel counterparts, by making sure we tell them we love them, and after immedietely hating on them until they reappear again. He goes around and watches cartoons and believes he is Santa claus and gives kids whom he harasses gifts to give to their parents, if not directly already. This case of Fuzzbucketitis- as it is known in their world- is very common and should be treated with about as much respect as Fuzzbucket has for waxy draw's and tunes. Fuzzbucket is a masterpiece of cinema, that has stood the test of time as well as Michael Jackson. Here's hoping the release of Fuzzbucket 2: The Bucketening will come out soon, but until then, enjoy this beloved family classic on Disney +

Return to DVD or VHS
graywolf448 April 2006
This was a great movie for family to watch.

It is about a little creature that can only be seen by a young boy. Fuzz Bucket lives in the little boys tree house. This movie is great for any child that has ever had an imaginary friend.

I would love to see them offer it preferable on DVD but VHS would be nice. During the 80's Disney came out Sunday night movies for parents to watch with their kids, This was one of many.

I wish they would offer more of these movies on DVD for those of us who spent many happy hrs with there family watching decent shows with their family.

Maybe if enough of us request them they will.

Cute...
RosanaBotafogo11 March 2023
Fuzzbucket - a wise and lovable, but invisible creature - helps Mikey deal with his parents and the trauma of his first day at high school. In return, Mikey helps create a preparation that will make Fuzzbucket visible to everyone. In the vein of "Harvey", an invisible creature befriends a 12 year old boy. Of course, no one else can see him nor believe in him.

About invisible friends, invisible and yes imaginary, with a light and dark effect provided by the lighting and location, a disgusting Green goo, which makes the giant mouse (lovely little furry monster, disgustingly funny) visible again, all right, cute, really cute I thought it was the boogeyman, but it was just a different friend... Cute...

Childhood magic
hadjipanayi2 November 2005
My sister and I had a copy of this on video tape when we were little and used to watch it all the time. We have no idea where it is now and would love to get hold of another copy! Please let me know if you manage to find a copy of this as I would really appreciate it - as well as everyone else on this page! I have even tried emailing Disney and also asking someone I know who works for them, but with no luck! It's such a lovely little magical film - it's the kind that makes you feel good and all nostalgic, and also (from what I can remember!), will make you shout along with the little kid - FUZZBUKEEEEEEETTTT!!!... - at the end!
