Robin Colcord takes a day off from work and gets sucked into competition with Sam.
What a perfect juxtaposition- the rich, powerful, British Colcord in a blue-collar American sports bar. It's easy to see how Robin can get sucked in by the stupidity around him. Roger Rees is great as always- look at the way he turns down Rebecca when she picks out a cap for him to wear. You can see the subtle frustration on his face after Sam beats him at darts. It's easy to see how the same competitive nature that makes him a financial giant gets the better of him during his leisure time with the Cheers gang.
This is the point in the series where Norm Jokes just became endless, unfunny variations on the fact that he's a lazy slob who likes beer. It would go on to become painful and insulting: "Welcome to Norm World- keep your hands inside the car at all times." You see, because he's fat and lazy and likes beer.
Rebecca and Woody's subplot about living out her romantic fantasy is hilarious. Even the simple sitcom plot like Sam using a computer to cheat at chess is done well, with the help of some great lines: "Perhaps you'll sneeze one day and I won't hear it." Robin's sneaky admission that his weekly salary is just one penny is brilliant. It's a shame this is the only real episode in which we get to see Robin interact with the Cheers gang. It's a perfect mix and makes for a great episode.
