When it comes to director Piero Messina’s Another End, it’s almost necessary to begin with its ending. But only to say that its denouement isn’t unlike that of M. Night Shyamalan’s Sixth Sense, for how it confers meaning retroactively to the plot and will, most likely, leave you dumbfounded. Revealing more would mean spoiling this science-fiction film, which is as guilty of overtly sentimental dialogue as it is meticulous about revealing the rules of its world little by little. The screenplay’s last-minute plot twist is so astonishing that it all but makes one forget the hackneyed elements that structure the film.
What the atmosphere of Another End tells us from the start is that the world has become a perpetual penumbra. Its inhabitants look disaffected, if not depressed. That’s certainly the case with Sal (Gael García Bernal), who enters his elderly neighbor’s apartment...

This article contains major spoilers for "A Haunting in Venice."
The murder mystery "whodunit" has very close ties to the horror genre; in fact, some may argue that murder mysteries deserve to be considered a part of the horror genre, full stop. It's splitting hairs, of course, but the question is one of tone and focus — most horror stories put a bigger emphasis on the act(s) of murder, while most mystery stories are about murder's after-effects.
"A Haunting in Venice" is the latest cinematic Agatha Christie adaptation by Kenneth Branagh in which he serves a dual role on both sides of the camera, as both director and actor portraying the central role of detective Hercule Poirot. Branagh's previous adaptations of Christie's Poirot mysteries, "Murder on the Orient Express" and "Death on the Nile," were films that fit neatly into the mystery genre and even, in a couple of instances,...

Arnold Schwarzenegger revisited his iconic role as The Terminator in the titular film T2: Judgment Day. But some of the differences the film’s director James Cameron made for the film raised some alarms for the actor.

Although Schwarzenegger would return to the Terminator franchise in 1992’s Judgment Day, his character would be slightly different. In The Terminator, Schwarzenegger played a brutal killing machine responsible for several deaths in the feature.
But in Judgment Day, Schwarzenegger noticed this aspect of his character was absent from the script. In an interview with The Ringer, Cameron recalled Schwarzenegger’s trepidation towards the project.
“We were pals at this point. Post-Terminator, we rode motorcycles together. And he said, ‘Jim, I have a big problem with the script.’ I said, ‘Well, what is it?’ And he said,...

Like father, like daughter: Ishana Night Shyamalan is joining her dad, M. Night Shyamalan, in the family business of making movies by directing "The Watchers," the forthcoming thriller set up at New Line. Now, before you start breaking out your best nepo baby wisecracks, it's worth noting that Ishana Night Shyamalan has already helmed multiple episodes of "Servant," the critically-acclaimed Apple TV+ horror/thriller series that was executive produced and co-directed by her pop. M. Night Shyamalan didn't merely hire Ishana for "Servant" hoping she would prove to have a knack for visual storytelling, either.
"Ishana is one of several filmmakers that I hired based off of their short films," he explained to Entertainment Weekly. He added that, at 30 minutes long, each episode of "Servant" is "basically a short film" in and of itself. Peacock continues to expand its growing library of films with “Knock at the Cabin,” which will stream exclusively on the NBC platform starting March 24.
The M. Night Shyamalan thriller, starring Dave Bautista, Jonathan Groff, Ben Aldridge and Rupert Grint, follows three family members who are camping in the woods and are suddenly interrupted by four strangers with visions of an impending apocalypse. The only way to prevent the end of the world, they claim, is to have the family willingly kill one of their own.
The movie collected $14.2 million in its opening weekend in February, enough to top box office charts and dethrone “Avatar: The Way of Water.” It also landed a promising “A-” CinemaScore from ticket buyers.
However, Shyamalan’s new horror thriller wasn’t as much of a hit with critics.

The Sixth Sense director’s apocalyptic mystery horror is short on both mystery and horror and the ambiguous finale is deeply ridiculous
In the most heart-sinking possible way, M Night Shyamalan has done it again. As so often in the past, he teases us with a great come-on, a great ultra-high-concept initial premise, a great opening scene. And then …? Well, it isn’t long before the film is revealed to be complete bollocks.
It is a supposed apocalyptic nightmare (adapted from the 2018 horror bestseller The Cabin at the End of the World by Paul Tremblay) which turns out to be a silly shaggy dog story whose big reveal is bizarrely anti-climactic, unscary and unimpressive: it is at once madly overblown and entirely negligible, exasperatingly deficient in ingenuity or genuine thrills with characters whose motivation is sketchy even on the drama’s own terms.

We’re right at the cusp of armageddon, that is, unless Dave Bautista‘s character gets his job done. Knock at the Cabin, the new suspense-filled thriller from twisty director, M. Night Shyamalan, will be unveiled to audiences this week. The film features a hulking, intimidating character in the form of Guardians of the Galaxy‘s Dave Bautista. And as overwhelming as he looks, his character is portrayed as soft-spoken and even polite. GeekTyrant reports that the wrestler-turned-actor had put himself on Shyamalan’s radar with a fan letter that he emailed to the director.
The Sixth Sense director said he was already taken by Bautista’s performance in Blade Runner 2049, but knew he would like to work with him after he received an email of the big guy saying how big a fan he was and wanted to collaborate. Shyamalan replied to Bautista’s outreach, saying, “I said,...

In every generation, there is a Chosen One. But for many, there’s a particular Chosen One who has transcended all that with a legacy that endures from one generation to the next.
Kendra and Faith both hold a special place in our hearts, but it’s Buffy Summers who will forever remain the blueprint, even now. Sunnydale would have been a very different place without its signature Slayer, and it’s safe to say that TV as a whole would have been very different without Sarah Michelle Gellar too.
In the 20 years that have passed since Buffy the Vampire Slayer ended, Gellar has slayed all manner of projects, from underrated roles in Ringer and Southland Tales to an instantly iconic comeback in Do Revenge.
And now she’s back on our screens, working both in-front-of and behind the camera for a new TV show called Wolf Pack.

Everyone's waiting with bated breath to watch "Knock at the Cabin," M. Night Shyamalan's new apocalyptic thriller with a twist. The film is based on Paul G. Tremblay's 2018 novel "The Cabin at the End of the World" and follows a couple and their daughter during their trip to a remote forest cabin. What is meant to be a vacation and quality family time goes awry when four mysterious strangers break in and hold them hostage, asking them to make an unimaginable choice. The man who delivers the heartbreaking news is none other than Leonard, portrayed by a devastated-looking Dave Bautista. He reveals that the family must willingly sacrifice one of its three members or allow the world to be destroyed in an apocalypse.

Blending an engaging, if hectic, storyline with powerful visuals and winning perfs, Mexican Guillermo del Toro’s psychodrama “The Devil’s Backbone,” has the helmer toning down the perverse, comicbook imagination of his first two features — the Spanish-language “Chronos” (1993) and English-language “Mimic” (1997) — in favor of a muted, warmer and more psychological approach. Though it fails in its final reels to capitalize on its early promise, pic is still stylish, accomplished and tremendously enjoyable fare. Pre-sold heavily to many major territories, it did terrific first weekend B.O. at home after opening April 20 on the back of heavy marketing.
Pic will do nothing to harm del Toro’s reputation as perhaps Latin America’s foremost genre talent. However, auds expecting the conceptual hi-jinx of the earlier pics — particularly the multiple award-winning “Chronos” — are likely to be disappointed, and the movie’s psychology is too bargain basement to be of much interest in itself.
