Excellent, except for the possible boyfriend
Sarah42312 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I love this show and the teens add to the family drama. However we had more of Stella's (predictable) potential boyfriend than I would have liked. The actress is excellent. Raved for her skills last week, but....not my thing with the girly squeal over the horsey boy. (Maybe if it was Bel, though?)

--- Unpleasant "ding" over, here are the pros:

The rest of the episode was solid. We focused in on the case more & got a heaping helping of Micki back story which was great. Also great was her relationship with Trey. (Not so predictable, this.)

Loved that Walker cared so much to learn & grow WITH his new partner, supporting her even when he wasn't sure she was correct. The easy give & take growing between them was spot on.

Some clues that we're still looking into Who Killed Emily, so this was still more a case of the week. But it worked.

Once again adored Abeline & that she's complicated/complex, too. Loved she could give her grown boy a hug. And family SECRETS. Oh, boy. Cordell hitting one dead on & August opening a huge can of worms for the next ep. SIGN ME UP.

Improving every week
FiendingNemo13 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The last two episodes have been so much better. Thank you to whoever fixed the sound (incidentally, the music this week was excellent, too).

One of my favourite things at this early stage is that none of the characters feel superfluous; almost every single one has a distinct plotline and back story that I'm waiting (and eager) to learn more about.

There's a lot going on story-wise already, so I wasn't sure that they were going to touch on Cordell's time undercover, but it looks like that's about to come back to bite him. Personally, I hoped the show would go in that direction so I'm excited to see where it goes. Undercover work can be a morally grey area, so it will be interesting to see how Walker's 'strict moral code' stands up to scrutiny. I'm really looking forward to watching this play out.

The pacing of the episodes so far has been great, but I hope they're careful to let the many plotlines develop and conclude naturally - as the story grows, there's the potential for episodes to get crowded.

Notable mentions:

Kale Culley was magnificent in the last episode, and kept it up in this one. Mollie Hagan's Abi is rapidly becoming one of my favourite characters. Lindsey Morgan is faultless; she has charisma in spades, and is believably tough and focused as Micki. Huge relief to see them drop the bumbling act with Cordell, as that was becoming tiresome.

Pro and con

Warning: Spoilers
2 points minus for the "Micki only drinks Bourbon" inconsistency. Come on, people, it was only last week she ordered tequila on her own at the Side Step. Bleh... 2 extra points for Stella's "Kiss me already" look in that barn, that was top class. Amazing actress, every episode!

The subplot with the daughters is....
kemority12 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
... getting really old. Yes, I get it... they "BrOkE tHe LaW". But if you base your morality off legality, history is not on your side. Threatening to deport a girl's parents because she was in "possession" of the wrong plant is so un-American it's actually embarrassing in 2021.

Now, if they had STOLEN the weed then that would be different (but also weak story-wise). An actual crime has occurred. But c'mon... Prohibition is so 1920s.

Texas is supposed to be as 'Murican as it gets. They glamorize drinking alcohol at the bar in every episode, and alcohol is FAR worse than marijuana.

The most dangerous thing about marijuana is what happens if you're caught with it.

Each episode has more action than the last. More mysteries to solve, more intrigue. The characters are all very interesting people. I love this new show. I can't wait for Thursday nights!

Makes me laugh
supernatural-62-81308613 February 2021
All the amount of people that keep saying that this show is trash and doesn't deserve the 10/10 makes me laugh that they keep coming back to watch it or read the reviews. How about you don't comment and leave it for people who do enjoy it - simple as that if you don't like it don't watch it

every character has something going on.
amusawale12 February 2021
I was watching the Prodigal son before the last episode of Walker and I was feeling like, "What's the difference?" and it hit me that in Walker every character so far (except Captain James) has some kind of character development of their own done. Their own story, their own troubles and tribulations, expertly woven into the main story so that you have a more well-rounded picture of the story and the characters. This episode in particular obviously started to give answers/laid the foundation for the messiness to arrive in everyone's life. It filled me with anticipation for what happens next.

Walker and his children

I love watching Walker's relationships with his children. He's a struggling dad and trying his best obviously. Jared plays the complicated relationship very well.

From the third episode and the show starting to get better and better .. i kinda liked the idea of concentrating on one topic or one character and just showing that from different other characters and events while building up for future topics and keeping up hocked .. the show is getting better in considering the unity in its eases

Really enjoyed this ep. Love the developing partnership/friendship between Micki and Walker. Felt like there was more action this episode and a nice set up for the next episode where he goes undercover. Show gets better every week and the cast is fantastic!

Worst episode so far.
matiballadares26 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I'm sorry but this episode was specially cringe worthy.

Stella and the horse boy who by the way can't act at all. Micki's family resemblance epiphany after drawing the suspects in paper... who came up with that terrible scene? And lastly the red haired woman who casually knew how to hack a surveillance security camera inside a website that apparently was live streaming the whole thing publicly, what was that?

And the final action scene... Terrible and so unrealistic.

You can tell Jared Padalecki is trying really hard to infuse some personality into his character, to make him dorky and somewhat charming. But it shouldn't feel like he's trying at all. The writers are really failing him in that area.

I'll keep watching because I do want to know what happened to the mom, but I need to say that after this episode my liking for this show really plummeted.

I love how the relationship between Walker and Micki is fleshing out. Trey is a breath of fresh air. I thought I may have figured out Emily's death, but this episode made me rethink my theory.

Still trying too hard
kstrader-6541215 March 2021
I wish they'd stop waving Mikki like a flag for diversity. It makes her character so much less interesting since they spend more time pointing out her marginalized status that writing her as a fully fleshed out and complexed character. They are trivializing diversity by loudly proclaiming it without caring enough to give the character depth... just shoving in as many woke cliches as possible. Comes across so shallow and patronizing.

Okay I know I said last week was my favorite episode but this week is my new favorite! I love how the cases are getting more serious! Things are starting to unravel! The chemistry between Walker and Micki is fantastic. Jared did a great job and made me cry again. He's such a fantastic actor. I'm loving it so much. The haters just aren't giving this a fair chance. I love it.

Don't Fence Me In
Prismark1030 April 2021
After watching the previous episode with my wife. This one I watched with my daughter and with some trepidation. She was a big fan of Supernatural.

I kept any comments about Jared Padalecki's acting abilities to myself.

The main story focuses on Micki after she apprehends Enzo Carillo. He is suspected of killing his boss who owns an oil field and going by his tattoos, Enzo is a gang member.

Enzo is seriously injured in the chase by Micki and Walker. Enzo's daughter confronts Micki. She says that her dad was a former gang member. He has been going straight for decades and he had a good relationship with his boss.

Micki thinks the case is too straightforward, which is indeed true. When the boss's will is read out. Enzo inherits everything but by then Enzo has died from his injuries.

It was telling that the main case was solved rather early in the episode. Once again the focus falls on family issues. This time it is secrets.

August Walker suspects his father of being with another woman when he finds a photo and a burner phone. I think my daughter liked the soap opera elements. It certainly a frothy series so far.
