Spectacular acting
patrick-4132 June 2021
The incredible performance rescues this episode from an extremely unsatisfying and contrived ending. I loved the dialogue and the way it was brought to life by the actress (whom I'd somehow never seen before, and yes I looked at her IMDB page to make sure!), so despite the somewhat dull plot and lackluster end, I can't dislike it as a creative piece.

Great acting
markdavess21 May 2021
It's true, I've done only a very little "acting", and what I have done definitely deserves those qualifying speech marks, and I can't claim to have expertise to properly qualify my assessment, beyond the usual years of viewing we all have 'under our belts' just from living post mid-20th century, but I felt almost 100% convinced by Constance Wu here. A very authentic-feeling range of expression and emotion.

With any acting probably it's probably always visible to some small extent at least that the person is saying words they knew they were going to say, and reacting in ways that they're thinking through to some extent in advance, even if in microseconds, and I guess that might be one of the key aspects of good acting, but Constance almost totally gets it here, and beyond that is a completely believable character with totally familiar characteristics of behaviour and relatable reactions, though also specific enough in a way to a certain type of character. And there's a range of stuff here, and some very hard emotions at the end. So, the acting to me was the best so far in this series. I'll see how the later episodes compare as I continue through them.

The story itself is more a personal story than anything else, giving all the context and reason for the reactions and emotion, the picture growing as we progress through the retelling, and the sci-fi element is merely the reveal of the context it all turns out to be happening within at the end, so perhaps not what many watching this kind of series are looking for, and maybe also not the most unpredictable story outside of that, but for what it is, for those less bothered about the sci-fi, and for the performance particularly, worth seeing.

Best episode

Warning: Spoilers
It's got a really nice twist at the end.

You think she's talking to herself, but she's reliving a memory. It was an inventive way to tell the story.

I like how she starts the conversation light, but then spirals out of control and tells the final, heart wrenching twist. Well done.

Revealing and harsh look at one's life of mistakes and doubt!
blanbrn29 May 2021
This episode "Jenny" from "Amazon Prime Video's" "Solos" series is one that is brash and raw with dialogue as the character opens up about life and her personal feelings that involve doubt. Constance Wu("Fresh off the Boat" and "Crazy Rich Asians") is Jenny a young married woman who after attending a child's birthday party dressed as an angel finds herself alone in a room with the same costume on! She tries to think and remember how she got there only she opens up with her mouth in a blunt and brash way about her husband's intimate life and reveals she wants a baby. Only the episode twist as you ask is her bad attitude being punished is that why she has life and family doubt! Being away with no memory in the room is that the penalty? Overall heart touching and raw felt emotional one that has everyone making their own call.

question about the ending!
jforecka27 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Guys, please explain the ending to me, I did not understand this at all and I am so frustrated! I get she is in coma after the accident and it turns out that she is some kind of a donor of memories. But WHY is the man extracting her memories? She is not dead after all, she is going to need these memories when she wakes up! Who would like or need to have uploaded memories of some other person? What is the purpose of taking the memories from her and giving to someone else?

Psychotic Sex And The City Character?
micheline-470-56969620 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The acting is quite good. Just hated the character. Do men think, women are like that? A neurotic mess that thirst over their neighbor and befriend his baby boy to get their way? And then go totally psycho drunk when losing their unborn child? Very bad writing, absolutely shallow and immature. And why do the always cast Asians for the neurotic, crazy roles? I hated every single second starting with the question if we can smell her hoohaah. Seriously only a male brain can produce such a one-layered depiction of a female character. Don't try to pack a very sad, traumatic story of a slightly disturbed woman in 20 minutes if you're not able to grasp the depth and complexity of a human soul. Just let it be.

Why is this episode rated over 6??????????
madonnicallysony21 May 2021
Probably one of the most difficult stories so far...the narrative build up is excellent. Constance Wu is amazing, the way she emotes throughout her story along with the intensity of the background music absorbs the viewers into her story. I personally loved this episode.

Worse one so far

Swearing. Terrible story. Annoying acting. They should have had much better dialogue or just skipped this one altogether.

This was not just the best episode, but a truly jaw dropping performance
mhedricklca22 May 2021
This episode being ranked second to last is shocking. Constance Wu is the only performer left with no other characters to bounce off of, and she still gives the most invigorating performance. It's funny, suspenseful, versatile, and heartbreaking. If there's any justice in the world she should win an Emmy for this. Honestly, most of these episodes are a mixed bag. But I would suggest that everyone watch this monologue, it's spectacular.

So horrible
This episode of this lackluster show is so horrible, it deserves to be used in schools as an example of all would-be writers and filmmakers of exactly not what to do. Constance Wu wants to be perceived as bold for spouting misogynistsic dialogue about how she wants to smell a guy's underwear and cheat on her husband - but she ends up looking like a fool who doesn't know how to choose good material to act in. I realize she is not getting many offers due to her inability to know how to tweet - but this is a really poor choice in roles and she deserves not to work for a few years. She also overacts (what else can she do) in a progressively ridiculous scene that erupts in one of the most obvious and cliched climaxes to appear in a TV piece in decades. We can see how this piece is going to end way before her expositional dialogue delivers the "twist" ending. This twist is so hackneyed and so contrived that even a child could see it coming. I've seen a lot of garbage short films in my day but rarely have I seen something that makes me want to take away a writer's computer and a filmmaker's camera and throwing them in a trash compactor.

Because this episode is exactly that - completely garbage.

Strong Acting
shangeetharajoo17 July 2021
This is not an easy watch, jenny is not someone we like but that's the thing, Constance does not attempt to make her likable. There is no justification to what jenny did and Constance was simply amazing in bringing her to life.

We all know a Jenny, we might even be Jenny and that's why we dislike her.

Constance Wu Fabulous!!
brj31913 January 2022
I don't know why the ratings are on the lower scale, but Constance Wu was fabulous in this. Playing off no one but herself, her projected emotions after her character's realization of her actions, with snot running from her nose, was WOW❤❤. The ending? I was blindsided!

The only good episode

Difficult to tell a story in 22 minutes. It's clever, funny, dramatic and insightful. The actress is great. I would love to see more of the actress and the writer.

Spot on

Bekka Bowling's writing captures the overwhelming pain, isolation and shame of suburbia and the terrible acts of empty people. Through as one viewer put it her "trivial" experiences she creates a story realistic and chilling. Constance Wu is just amazing. Perfection.
