Cure for insomnia
bosscain10 May 2021
If you are having trouble falling asleep put this on and the ultra slow pace and ambient background noise will knock you right out. I had to fight my eyes from closing for all of the painstakingly long 18 minutes. I do agree with other reviews that this should be played on a loop in stores that sell huge widescreen TV's I think that is where this would have any benefit or as a screensaver otherwise you should watch it on 3x playback speed.

Relaxing
LoyalLackey12 May 2021
It's very relaxing and also really cool to get a bird's-eye view of your favorite Star Wars landscapes. There's no story to be found here, just a nice relaxing video to put on as you fall asleep.

Exactly What It Claims To Be
deepfrieddodo6 May 2021
Oddly satisfying and visually impressive, Star Wars Biomes is obviously heavily limited by purely being a moving view of scenery. It's peaceful and was never intended to be absorbing, it shows other angles to famous Star Wars settings. Only for background viewing though, no one is focusing on this.

Fine addition to my collection

Feels like a tease of an actual documentary about planets and nature in the Star Wars universe. That would be awesome.

A cool idea, but....
cblinn17 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Six slow, lengthy, uninterrupted flyovers of various Star Wars locations, each dotted with the familiar vehicles and inhabitants we've come to know and love. None of these elements are in your face, or dramatically presented, rather you are a bird in flight peacefully looking down on the happenings of the Star Wars universe.

The show opens on Hoth, as it should, as it is the most detailed and enjoyable of the bunch. You'll glide over the snowy, mountainous terrain as a squad of snow speeders fly on by. Keep an eye out for probots and tauntauns, while making your way towards the familiar sight of AT-ATs trudging towards the shield generator.

The action is slow and subtle, but with a relaxed vibe.

Each sequence is approximately two minutes in length and vary in degree of enjoyment. Hoth and Tattooine being the best, and the rice patty location from season 1 of The Mandalorian being the worst.

So, what holds this show back from getting a score of 10?

Basically, it's the biomes that they chose to show. Whereas, Hoth and Tattooine are brimming with subtle activity and movement, the other locations are not. As mentioned, the rice fields from Mandalorian offers nothing but an overly long shot with not much more to keep it interesting. Mando's ship flys by and then it's two minutes of just a rice patty field. Same can be said for Mustafar, Darth Vaders lava-filled adopted home. Once a shuttle flys by, it's two minutes of staring at his castle.

Now, I'm not saying this is bad, but one has to wonder why more interesting biomes like Endor, Scarrif, Naboo, Kamino, or Yavin IV weren't selected. You know, somewhere that offers the potential of movement.

Overall, this concept is very welcome and enjoyable, but it can be downright boring when a stagnant biome is featured. I do hope they make more of these, but I hope they pick better biomes, and add more life and the enjoyable subtle details that made most of this show fun to watch.

Beautiful to look at and almost a must-see for Star Wars fans
Horst_In_Translation27 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Disney's "Star Wars Biomes" is a short film from 2021 that runs for 18.5 minutes and the title already gives away that this one leads you into one of the biggest film franchises in the world, maybe the biggest. There are many films, some of them spin-off, several spin-off series too and so it should be no surprise to anybody really that this film here exists. Information is scarce if you want to know who directed this or who came up with the noises you hear. I guess it is probably a film that is more effective to watch on the big screen, but I am unsure if it is still possible to do so at this point because three years have passed, probably more until you get here to read this review of mine. Still, I would say it is also worth seeing on the small screen, even if maybe not too easy to find really. But now let us look at the exact contents: We basically travel through the world of Star Wars and see several places and regions that play a solid role in the franchise. This really includes all you can imagine, sch as eternal ice, relentless desert, juicy green, really sinister locations with something like lava or magma rivers nearby and finally an uplifting ending with a rocky island in the beautiful sea. Water prevails here as well as the basis for all life. I am not big enough of a Star Wars fan or expert to really identify all this, especially not right away, but using subtitles helps there because you at least get the names of the creatures that live in these surroundings, so by doing research on those, you probably also find out where you are exactly at each point.

There is no plot here, no story, no dialogues, no characters, except the ones that are just part of the environment. Here and there you also see other vehicles in the skies, even if it is not entirely sure who you are in this film and where you are watching it from. Around the 10-minute mark or so, the film developed some more focus on technology in general and went away a bit from nature by depicting red-on-white (nice combination, like blood on snow) effects and where they come from and while it also looked nice, it really did not do a lot for me compared to everything before that. I was even tempted there to reduce my overall positive recommendation to something below that, but luckily what followed then as the film was getting close to the end was superior again. All in all, you can surely say that the animation here is so breathtaking at times that it is close to a must-see. Maybe sometimes you cannot even be sure if you are watching animation or actual recordings from Earth. Well, you can be sure I guess that you are not, but looks so incredibly breathtaking. However, it is not just the visual side that is a triumph here, but also the sound design. I mentioned noises from specific characters earlier already, but those are really as good as it gets. These bird creatures towards the end then were a highlight and you realized they must be super cute from the way they sound, even if you only see them from far away. This is pretty much it then. By now, you won't be surprised when I say that I give these under 20 minutes here a thumbs-up and I think they would make for a great inclusion on a Star Wars film DVD or Blu-ray or also a nice epilogue after a Star Wars marathon to see some of the locations again that you just watched in the movie. Whatever route you take, don't miss out. I also think my occasional thought that 12 minutes would have been enough for this one are misperception. 18.5 is exactly right.

Not a single idea went into this - what a waste of time and potential
Stefan-drawert-26 May 2021
First - I like Star Wars, but I would not consider myself a real fan.

There are just too many crap ideas, failed executions and mediocre movies in the Star Wars saga to be raving fanboyish about everything coming from Disney.

But still - when I saw the ad for the Biomes "movie" I was thrilled - seeing the majestic landscapes of Hoth, etc in screensaver-mode sounded quite entertaining.

Man, was I wrong - those 18 minutes dragged on for ages... Why, you ask?

Because the makers did not have a single idea beyond the absolute minimum.

Hoth? Just snow and mountain ranges.

Tatooine? Just sandy dunes.

The water planet? Just waves.

The volcano thingy? Just the "castle" and lava streams.

What a bore...

No charming details, n-o-t-h-i-n-g!

When your boss hands over a whole galaxy of possibilities to you and all you come up with is... this?

Then you better look for a new job.

And yes - they integrated some scenes of the movies into the drone flights. But just the scenes you already know, like two droids wandering through the desert.

I saved you 18 minutes, you will be thanking me!

Star Wars Biomes
kaden_lewis15 January 2022
This was exactly what it sounds like. Star Wars Biomes is an 18 minute special that takes you to some of the most famous places in the Star Wars universe, to witness some of the events from the movies and shows, from a literal birds eye view. The shots were visually stunning, and I loved how they added the little details from the film or show the scene came from. The 6 Biomes they go to are Hoth (The Empire Strikes Back), Tatooine (A New Hope), Sorgan (The Mandalorian), Crait (The Last Jedi), Mustafar (Revenge of the Sith) and Temlle Island on Ahch-To (The Last Jedi). It was also really cool how they added key parts from each of the scenes, such as the Imperial Walker walking through snow on Hoth, and Luke riding on Tatooine shortly before the Jawas sold him R2 and 3PO.

This was actually very cool to watch, and I would definitely give it a go.

Sure, a virtual, visual vacation? Why not....
paul_haakonsen19 June 2021
With this being a "Star Wars" title, of course I had to sit down and watch it.

And I will say that the 2021 "Star Wars Biomes", virtual vacation as they called it, was a mixed bag of nuts. Some of the scenes where you visit some of the planets and locations were rather interesting, such as the likes of Hoth and Tattooine for example, whereas others were just downright boring.

Sure, there is no storyline here or anything going on aside from showcasing some iconic and memorable locations of the "Star Wars" galaxy, so this is something that is interesting only to the hardcore fans of the "Star Wars" franchise.

It should be said, though, that you have to keep alert and check the locations, because some minute details may be shown, and it definitely was enjoyable enough to have some of the iconic vehicles, locations, creatures and such make short appearances as you take a bird's view trip over the different locations.

While "Star Wars Biomes" was watchable, this was hardly something outstanding or something that I would return to watch a second time around.

I am rating "Star Wars Biomes" a bland five out of ten stars.

A Feast for the Eyes
derjonant7 May 2021
If you expect a story this isn't for you, but if you love amazing visuals, this will give you goosebumps. Biomes perfectly combines my love for great cinematography and my love for Star Wars. The atmosphere and visuals are stunning. I hope the cinematographer gets involved in a future Star Wars project because this gave us easily some of the most beautiful shots in all of Star Wars. Or at least give us a sequel with Coruscant, Scarif, Cloud City, Kamino and Takodana for example.

Waste of time

OMG.... Why?.... This is the most boring thing ever!

It's kind of like sightseeing through digital landscapes at a very slow pace.

Nothing happens.... at all....

Interesting, but felt wat too slow paced at times
patrick-moore018 May 2021
Some parts were fantastic and great in this, but many times the pace was frightfully slow and this really made it hard to watch at times. They could have easily cut 5-10 minutes off this or sped it up a bit and it would have been ideal. Cool concept, but poorly executed which really hurt the rating. Would have greatly helped.

A Kubrickian view of the Star Wars universe.
nchodoba6 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
What affected me right away was the view that was chosen to show us the landscapes. Basically, we start at Hoth, move on to Tattooine, then the forest planet from the Mandalorian, followed by Scairt from The Last Jedi. Mustafar is in there too, and finally the planet Luke was on in the Last Jedi. I probably have these chronologically wrong, but it is only 18 minutes, and the idea is to give us a different view of the Star Wars universe. Those expecting a story or anything will be disappointed. I just enjoyed the idea of a 2001 (or Shining) style look at the Star Wars universe. No dialog, just visuals. I will dare say I would like more. (Coruscant, Cloud City, Dagobah, Dathomir, Exogel).. and even more after that.

Flyby of iconic moments
paulgavrikov24 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
So this film is a very slow paced flyby of iconic scenes such as R2 and C3PO arriving on Tattoine. The pace could be a faster and some of the animated scenes could be better .. e.g. The tauntauns leave no footprints on the snow, the Jawa sandcrawler looks poor, the Walkers on Crait lack proper lightning - was this rendered by an intern? Good concept tho.

Awesome
betterjedi12 May 2021
This reminds me of the Soarin' ride at Disney World. Pleasant little "fly on the wall" perspective. I so hope they make more of these. I want to see Cloud City, Endor, Naboo, Geonosis, Coruscant, Jedha, etc.

Could have been much, much better
ghatbkk16 June 2022
This could have been much, much better. Too many of these crawl or are at poor distances for this purpose. They should have taken the digital masters and has someone skilled at this sort of landscape flyover redo the pacing and framing.

It is what it's supposed to be: Beautiful
dbenisch5 May 2021
Felt like a TV display example in a Best Buy, but it wasn't supposed to be a show or have a plot, so how can you judge it otherwise?

Absolutely stunning - great additional content and I hope for more
gnw-934155 July 2021
Beautiful fly through of iconic Star Wars locations. Very calming and relaxing, and a great way to showcase the beauty and magic of various Star Wars planets. Definitely hoping they make more (maybe with Coruscant, Naboo, Bespin, Ensor, Dagobah, Exegol etc.). I am a huge fan of additional Star Wars content that isn't "necessary" but just plain awesome.

Warning: Spoilers
This is 18 minutes of escapism. Wonderful to watch, and even better with headphones on. The music is perfect. I loved seeing the Razor Crest again, and of course The Millennium Falcon. I wish this had been longer. Well done to whoever suggested this, and thank you for showing it.

If you lost your zen, it's probably here.
zachariassillanpaa16 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Innovative fan service, other franchises should follow. It's a next level screensaver I'd say. After you watch it the first time. Nostalgic trip to some beautiful places. Thanks! Gonna let TypeAI fill in the rest here to pass the 600 threshold... Hippo hippocampus hippos hopefully hippidy hippopotamus, hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia.

Oh btw, it has a lowkey breeze of wind for music and sounds for various effects. Just put whatever music that floats your boat, but it has a really calming effect as it stands alone. Only 69 more letters to go.... We will agree and disagree, bottom line is my world would $#?! Without you in it. <3.
