very strange, not what it says on the tin
Sounded as if it should be a Christian take on Revelation but in fact it bears no resemblance to any interpretation of Revelation that any denomination has ever come up with. Might have been better with no religious element at all and just an "escape from the aliens" plot. With that, it would have been reasonably good. But this will just annoy those who it is supposed to be aimed at while putting off unbelievers who might otherwise have enjoyed it for what it is.

Let's Get Real

Not really a spoiler because they tell you at the very beginning: If you can't drink the water or eat the food because they have both been madedeadly, what's the sense of going anywhere?

You can live without food for a while, but you can only go without water for maybe three days. And you're going to push it by riding bicycles?

Foiled again! This is the second time in a month I got pulled in by special effects for a disaster event movie moving into an apocalyptic nightmare. Curse my Saturday night love of dystopian landscapes. So I was about 2/3rds of the way invested when the tide turned and it all went christian in an effort to spur my very own come to Jehovah moment, in lieu of the absence of that age old hymn, "Just As I Am." The scene, taking the bible off the nightstand of the deathbed, did sound a few bells and whistles, but I chocked it up to dramatic schmaltz at the directors discretion. Up until the 2/3rds point I always thought a band of angels coming after me was a good thing. According to this movie, it ain't. It gives slain in the spirit a very smoldering meaning, and effect. SO, had I known before hand what exactly was waiting for me at the end of the rabbit hole, I would have given it a pass for something a little, WHAT AM I SAYING, a lot less bible belty.

Wow... I thought it had a glimmer of being half decent... I was wrong.
ppaxson12 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This movie, to put it simply, is just stupid. You have a wife and husband with a baby on the way going to buy a luxurious house.

Ten minutes later they make some "friends". Another few minutes in you find them finding charred gray material, not noticing it's obviously a human skull 9even though they see it only from behind.

Then all these "storms" begin appearing with lightning blasts targeting any people exposed. All the food and water is magically poisoned.

Now enter these humanoid objects that appear that seem to be hunting down any people who evade the cyclonic storm clouds.

All you get from this movie is a bunch of people wandering through the desert (or steppe, whatever) trying to outrun these ominous cyclones blasting people off the face of the earth being trailed by incandescent humanoid objects.

You never find out what any of these things are, what they're purpose is (beyond eradicating sentient life), who controls them, or anything else.

So, the question remains the same from the beginning to the end, is it a biblical apocalypse or aliens wanting to seize the planet, no idea, you're never given an inkling of what the hell is actually going on.

Don't waste your time on this movie, it's entirely pointless.

So Awful!
petrus66-439-2205896 August 2023
Compared to the Mimi Rodgers dystopian film, this truly stank. Poor acting, crappy script and it went absolutely nowhere. Couldn't figure out its point or perspective, seems like it was made by a committee of goofballs. Who gives people money to make such horrific wastes of time? This "film" is emblematic of the schlock that gets funding and financing in lieu of genuine quality films. Editing appears to have been done by a shredder. Was this funded by some misguided evangelical group? NOBODY was evidently holy enough to escape the divine barbecue! Give me a break- even an awful recruitment film for Jeezus freaks!

no spoilers because no plot at all..
mrrebel-8038223 July 2023
I have no idea what I just watched.

No character development, no plot, no real direction. It's like somebody said hey let's do something that makes no sense at all and film it. Is it a rapture?

Is it aliens? Is it a government scientific experiment gone wrong?

You will never know...... because they don't explain anything at all from beginning to end your left in a mystery wrapped in bacon?

So do yourself a favor and watch the wind blow through the trees, watch grass grow, what's your butterfly float on the breeze, watch paint dry.. because that's more entertaining than this flip-flop whatever they want to call it..

Just plain bad
davedukart14 March 2023
I can't think of a good thing to write about this movie. The special effects are almost worse than SciFi channel movies.....which is saying a lot.

The acting is terrible. It's just a plain awful movie. Much of the occurences don't work if the nature of the movie is what it is supposed to be.

But, you gotta take it for what it is...a low budget movie made by some church group to push some religious ideology. Not made by an actual movie making outfit.

Don't get me wrong, there are some really good religious movies out there. Some mega movie classics. This just isn't one of them. Not by a long shot.

Not good, not even a little
letyspaulding3 January 2022
Rapture means to be snatched up violently. There was no snatching up, just incineration. I thought it was going to be a biblical movie. Instead it was a a movie without a real story line. The ending was left entirely void of any meaning. I'm so thankful I didn't buy this and only rented, even that is a waste of money. I get that production and the acting were going to be bad, but this was just a hot mess.

Nonsensical
missalyss-9840019 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This movie was hot garbage I think most would agree. Completely shallow and pointless ending.

However, what confuses me to the point of actual anger (lol) is that the ultra religious woman "knows" it's the rapture yet still runs away in fear from the zappy clouds. She converts the main character's wife who then willingly gets zapped by the zappy clouds while the ultra religious woman runs away and looks on with absolute terror.

WHAT?????????? THAT LITERALLY DOES NOT MAKE ANY SENSE AT ALL!!! I am so annoyed by this glaring detail. Does she have doubt??? Is she evil and trying to trick people??? Well then at the end she tries to convince the husband/main character to go to the church with her and that makes even less sense??? Like? The church probably agrees and was delighted to get zapped.

This movie is needlessly confusing. The acting is atrocious and embarrassing to witness and the SFX that so many other commenters are praising, well... You're wrong - it's lazy and terrible. It literally looks like the wounds are drawn on, no fake skin or fake blood is used to create depth or believability in the gore. Genuinely a pathetic attempt. I've seen better gore in low budget horror from the 80s... and this was made in 2014 so what's their excuse? You can literally buy the materials for a few dollars online or at a Halloween store. I've seen teenagers make more realistic wounds on their first attempts for a costume.

There is no excuse for a movie to be this terrible.

Either a really bold take or someone is MASSIVELY confused...
AndyVanScoyoc27 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I liked this movie and thought it was okay but do feel that "Rapture," is a vastly incorrect name with the way religion was interlaced with a seemingly, "alien takeover" theory.

Growing up in a hellfire, brimstone and damnation Southern Baptist Church, the Rapture was shoved down my throat from my first memories.

In NO teachings...EVER...were silver shiny people mentioned, clouds that looked like electrified locusts and lightning coming from the sky and striking people.

What I was always taught was no pomp, no Hollywood...the Saved simply disappear.

If you're riding in a car and the driver is saved, guess what? Suddenly the car has no driver.

I was taught that cars will crash, planes will fall from the sky if the pilots are unsaved, etc.

No silver people or alien like influences.

While I'm an open minded person and know for a fact the bible is open to serious interpretation this is a bit far fetched.

If alien like creatures are part of the apocalypse, this is the first I've ever heard of it...and still...while it's a neat concept, I just can't get there.

While this is a brave (but conflicting and convoluted take) it's just too much.

NO ONE knows what angels look like...but shiny silver people...I just can't.

Also...the timing could use some work. You can go without food. Water...nope.

Still...I enjoyed this film for what it was...kind of creepy entertainment.

I can see the shock factor they were going for but this?
bolomark7 February 2022
They missed the mark on so many levels with this movie let alone trying to justify the biblical aspect of it all. Don't expect this to be based on the Bible for they may have gotten a few ideas but totally missed the mark. With that being said, it was an interesting movie just to see where they were going with this. Sadly you'll be very disappointed if you were expecting to experience something truly based on Scripture of the Rapture. They tried too hard on some aspects then just went wild with the script. Too many things didn't add up or even come together. You have the "Robed Glowing Humanoids", same but different "Geist Like Creatures", the Black Voids that shoot lightning to incinerate humans to a stone distorted pile of goo, the Glowing things Vaporizing people including Children and some that do nothing but hurt if you look at them. It had its entertainment value but it was just weird and the acting was atrocious. Not sure what they were going for, for this would of been better as an apocalyptic film rather than a distorted Biblical Film.

Why the title Rapture?
danielepinat25 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I'm still perplexed about the title of the film and the film itself. The film should have been given a different name.

Indeed, the only indication of what the rapture should be is at the beginning of the film. Then, as the film progresses there is nothing truly related to the consequences of the rapture. Why wasn't the couple raptured? Is the UFO responsible for the rapture? Is there a relationship between the rapture and the UFO attack? Confusion nothing but confusion and I still try to understand the religious aspect of the film. What about self sacrifice? Are the aliens portrayed as evil angels? But why?

Okay
mikesbikes-58-19777118 July 2023
I'm a fan of apocalyptic and faith films, so I guess I was the target audience.

PREMISE: Good. Standard disaster, apocalypse fare. Noting new here. Good overall, however.

SCREENPLAY: Good. A bit slow. 90% of the film is the second act, which probably accounts for that. Nice to see a faith film that doesn't treat God like Santa-God. ("Just pray and everything is magically fixed"). Could have used some more character development to help the audience bond with them. No plot holes. Story moves forward without any nonsensical side plots or contrived drama. Believable.

ACTING: Very good. Good acting with believable responses to the situation(s). Being a faith film, it's very difficult to present a message without being over the top. The Christian character pulled it off superbly. Not over-bearing while also standing her ground. Dialogue was excellent overall.

DIRECTING: Good. Worked very well within the confines of the budget and script. Got the most out of the actors, story and setting. Hats-off!

CINEMATOGRAPHY: Very good. Well shot, directed and edited. Mostly shot outdoors in the desert. This set the tone very well. Not a whole lot of needless shots. Well done overall.

F/X. Fair. Obviously a low budget film and they knew how to film within those constraints. Only part I questioned was at the end, where they were walking through a town and the abandoned cars were CGI. Odd, since throughout the rest of the film, they used real cars and debris.

Inconsistent, and incoherent plot
commerce-735178 January 2019
This was neither constructed well nor executed well. It appears to be an attempt by a Christian group to give a Scirnce Fiction twist yo it's interpretation of the accounts given in Revelatoons. It fails.

Christian Movie About the Apocalypse
bemyfriend-4018413 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
What the title says. If you're not a Christian, you won't like this. And you're not expected to. You should watch something else. Some of the reviewers say it's not Biblical. Well, it is; but it only gives one portion of the Apocalypse. It is skillfully made, but it is too long. And the suffering of the actors becomes suffering by audience, because it goes on for too long. Seen on Tubi, the free streaming site; which has an abundance of low budget indies, foreign films, older major studio films; and now, live TV.

Sci-fi or Christian? Well, neither.
dsjjfg9 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I was hesitant at first just from the title "Rapture" but I enjoy "mystical" stories and films no matter the religion. It's nicer when they are close to their source, be it the Qur'an, Christian bible, or Bhagavad Gita.

This movie has some positive notes, like the mystical "robed figures" whom you couldn't look at for more than a couple seconds. But no Christian I've ever known would have had the repentent struck down by either lightning or plague - it ruins the credibility of the "faithful."

* SPOILERS *

It kept my interest until they had to get a "conversion in the face of desperation" scene in there. I almost abandoned watching, but then I held out hope for a nice mystical/religious ending. Didn't happen.

I agree with the other reviewer who suggested that it should have been left as an alien invasion with little hope. Perhaps there could have been at least a glimmer of hope at the end...?

Avoid it. It is just a "convert to Christianity" advertisement.
vsrawat8 May 2022
Senseless movie, no logic, no explanation. Humanity Ends.

When food and water is contaminated, and every remaining one is also infected and will die, what is the point of converting to Christianity?

Wasted my 85 minutes. Cursing the script writer and director. They should be banned from making any further movies.

You can avoid it without any loss.

Worth a watch.....n
VADMCAS21 January 2022
I'm thinking that this movie as far as rapture movies go is worth a view. Interesting how the whole movie comes together. I'm sorta not sure if you "leave" you are raptured or if you live you are raptured. From what I am seeing in this movie...no one lives.

Bizarre!
stevebme1 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
My wife and I are scratching our heads trying to figure out what the rapture event is in the movie. People are getting zapped by lightning type strikes, and their bodies destroyed. At the beginning of the movie, and later on, Revelation 1:7 is quoted. I just looked it up, and nobody ever sees Jesus. They all see UFO cloud like structures, out of which lightning strikes happen. 1 Cor. 15 says the rapture will happen in a moment, the twinkling of an eye. If the lightning zaps are the rapture, they spread it out over an extended period of time. I'm thinking that it's necessary to ask the publisher for clarification on what their idea of the rapture is.

Not a movie...
oakleybingham14 September 2023
Because the stink of religion is all over it. Any attempt at dramatic license is defaulted out of the gate. The Aristotelian unities are ignored and there is no mcguffin. There are no likable characters or notable personalities because acting talent is nonexistent. And then they start reading the Bible. In a 1 hour and 21 minute movie, how much text do you need to crib? Anything that's rational doesn't require belief. And it follows that anything that requires belief was never rational. There's no such thing as a rational belief. I'm furious that I'll never get back this hour of my life, but a word to the wise...

Interesting
svonsawilski19 January 2020
In comparison with Cheynobel there was makeup techniques used that was award winning. The idea of the characters experiencing it as a localized event and then realising it was a large scale event gave the story line a feel of realism. Including the sinners' prayer and relevant bible verses added a profound sense of suspense. The special effects of the alien beings was appropriate in the way they were exposed by degrees. I'd recommend this film to everyone and anyone interested in sci-fi and or the subject of the rapture. The cast, crew and production team did an excellent job of presenting and story telling.

Are you outside your mind?
tanks-3006317 August 2023
Quite possibly the WORST movie supposedly on biblical prophecy I have ever seen!!!!!!!!!!! Reminds me of 60's sci=fi we used to watch as kids. I mean, you are zapped if you are a Christian, zapped if you are not, oh unless you die of food poisoning or water contamination, or starvation..............or killer ants, oh that was another movie. Only reason I gave it a star was for the poor actors, that had to put up with this debacle. I think it is a complete disaster, should have had the cop chase the store robber for some excitement, then maybe have a shoot out with the crooks, or something, have a bystander get hit.

Make Sure Your Fast-Forward Button Works
wolfen24427 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I have rarely seen a movie this horrible. The title makes you want to watch it, however after about 2 or 3 minutes you just fast forward to skip over the exceptionally tedious portions of this awkward home movie. I did that about 25 times and I truly don't think I missed much. I have also NEVER seen so many actors in the same movie that weren't appealing at all. None of them were charming, or particularly attractive or motivated beyond running and then doing the obligatory falling down and hurting their ankle thing. Nothing was explained at the end for any of the zappings as everyone gets zapped except the two at the end. I guess that's the spoiler. But I really didn't care much one way or another.

Unbiblical
westerngospelministries18 September 2016
This movie should just be labeled horror and doomsday! Not very good acting and bit hard to follow at first and by the time you work out what the story line is you realize it can only end one way! The people who wrote or produced this film should have spent some seriously time reading their bible so that it at least had some true biblical input! Everything from the so called non-rapture part of the film to the elimination of all mankind in one day is total misrepresentation of Gods word and story! We honestly put it straight in the rubbish bin the minute we had finished the length of its torturous illogical horror fable!
