Sorely disappointing. Undeniably beautiful.
minkis1419431 January 2012
Warning: Spoilers
I very much enjoyed the last episode of Chuck. a lot of it was very comedic and light-hearted, which reminded me a lot of the first season. The Jeffster performance was, as always, incredible. There is no other show that gets to me the way Chuck does. Sure, it has it's flaws. There are a lot of unrealistic thing that happen. The whole plot of the show doesn't really make sense, but hey, that's television. What Chuck is really about is the relationship between him and Sarah. For five seasons I have been waiting for everything to be absolutely perfect for them. I'm kind of a little girl in that sense. Another thing I love about Chuck is the music that is used in the show. The last song on the show was an amazing choice. I was getting super nervous towards the end. I was afraid they weren't gonna be able to wrap everything up. Chuck didn't end exactly the way I wanted it to. But no one can deny that the last episode of Chuck was absolutely beautiful. Probably the most beautiful thing I've ever seen on television.

Chuck Last Episode (Best one)
fastfurioustushar21 April 2012
Probably the best of all the episodes, all the seasons. I do feel a little bad about the Sarah memory thing, but a perfect memory for last episode, you just wont be able to forget this end ever. While watching this episode you just keeps saying to yourself "Please come back Sarah please come back (I mean the memory)". I love the show and the chemistry between Yvonne & Zachary is just best. Yvonne is perfect, you just cant stop thinking about her if you see her in action. I wish they had more seasons/episodes. I will miss them. In all a very great work from all the Chuck team. The last scene on the beach is the best one too. I just kept thinking about their dream during their last scene on the beach, and their last kiss just gives a sigh of happiness. Yvonne has the best moves, may it be her action or her beautiful smile or anything with Yvonne in the shot, she really can be a spy, probably best one, but love her as an actress. Looking forward to see this Aussie beauty more often in movies, and probably we will.

The sum up
DavidNog29 January 2012
I liked it. The final episode was like a sum up of everything that ever happened to them. And it showed true love. They don't needed the house right there or anything else. They just need each other. He need her because he love's her and want to fix her, and Sarah because she nows that she used to love him, and that he's the one that will show her who she became. That he would always love her, no matter how damage she could be. For me, it was a pretty awesome show. It will be hard to find a series that can match in quality with this one, that adds action, adventure, romance and true friendship.

Chuck Vs. The End
stegs783018 December 2014
Warning: Spoilers
So I have watched this series twice now. The first time I watched these final two episodes, the whole time I was shouting in my head "get your memories back!!!!". I honestly hated both of these episodes, "how could they do this to my Chuck and my Sarah" I though, and "I need a happy ending".

The second time I watched the series my opinions on these episodes changed. I have grown to love and appreciate these episodes. They were full of amazing easter eggs, mainly from the pilot episode, such as the virus, the Wienerlicious, most importantly the beach scene, and a few other less noticeable ones ;). In the final scene we fine Chuck now telling Sarah to trust him.

This ending I feel goes perfectly with the love element of this show which is no matter how hard Chuck and Sarah try and how close they get, they never get anything they want, and something always pulled back in the end. The song at the end "Rivers and Roads" is also perfect for this ending, it to me shows that Chuck and Sarah have been through so much, but most importantly, Chuck will go to the ends of the earth, and do anything to win his Sarah back. When she tells Chuck to tell her their story, I feel the tears coming, when the song starts to play I ball my eyes out (the first show to ever make me cry), and when she says "Chuck....Kiss Me" I totally lose it. The beach scene is one of the most beautiful scenes in TV history.

It doesn't matter that everything isn't tied up in a neat little bow, because if you don't believe that they fall back in love and she slowly remembers her Chuck, then you clearly missed the point of the whole series. This was a fantastic ending to one of the best shows ever to grace TV, and I wish it didn't have to end.

NOW CAN WE PLEASE GET A CHUCK VS. THE MOVIE!!!!!

Amazing
stefant-6757313 June 2016
I am simply without words... It's been a couple of years since Chuck ended, but I only got the chance to watch it now. Anyway, this episode is just amazing. It summarizes the whole series, delivers an amazing message in the end. Like I said, I am without words. Zachary, Yvonne, Adam and Joshua are excellent! This episode is full of emotion - love, anger, disappointment, regret, sacrifice. I have never cried to a TV show/movie, but I cried like a baby at the end of this episode. I think that if someone doesn't watch the whole series from the beginning to the end he/she cant appreciate it in its entirety. Just... Wow.. I think that the ending was great! I think that if they showed Sarah get her memories back that it wouldn't deliver the message of the show. Thanks Chuck for putting a smile on my face everyday!

A good send off, here's hoping for more.
dmpete-0407110 April 2020
Having just binge watched the whole series I can say one thing, I want more. One of my top 5 shows of all time. There's rumors floating around that Zachary wants to do a movie or if we're lucky enough another season. One can only hope. They don't make shows like this anymore, and we're the worse for it. It is well worth your time if you haven't watched this to do so.

A good kind of frustrating
Ladyeowyn32831 May 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Though many people will disagree, I find that the best books and movies have a very frustrating course with a not-so-happy ending. This is because if it doesn't suck in the middle, it's not much of an adventure and there's nothing to cheer over in the end. Yes, I wish they would have given us just one more episode in which we see more of Sarah's memories come back, but at the same time, I love that they left it open to interpretation.

If you are dissatisfied, just assume that when they kissed, Sarah got a great many memories back and lived happily ever after, and then read no further.

If you are satisfied with an ambiguous ending, well, let the speculation begin! Personally, I think it took a bit of time and there was a lot of filling-in on Chuck's part, but that eventually, Sarah fell in love with Chuck again and they never really broke away from the spy life.

But all the best endings leave you thinking for a long time after it's finished, and since I'm reeling, I consider it a success.

Wonderfully bittersweet
nathanwagenet15 August 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I had heard a lot about this show while it was still coming out week-by-week, but I didn't get into it at the time. Then a friend started watching it and raving about it to me, and I decided that I had to see what it was all about. I ended up watching all five seasons in less than three weeks, averaging about five episodes a day.

There were a number of times throughout that I thought about giving up. The overwhelming awkwardness of many moments, particularly surrounding the Buy More and Jeff and Lester, almost pushed me away. Some episodes were just not very good, or brought in plot points that I thought would have been better left out. But always, every time, the writers and producers and actors managed to do something to keep me hooked. For example, The Balcony was so good that, after watching The Gobbler, I wished they had ended it first. But then watching The Push Mix changed that, and I was hooked again.

The last few episodes were a bit like that. As soon as Casey and Sarah were trapped in the warehouse with the Intersect glasses at the end of Chuck vs. Bo, I knew what was going to happen (complete with Sarah losing her memories), and I had unfortunately seen the titles for the final two episodes (Chuck vs. Sarah and Chuck vs. The Goodbye) quite a while earlier. I was afraid that they were going to go out on a bad note because they couldn't find a good way to end the series, something that I see happen a lot.

Instead, they worked it out just right. The ending was not happy and sweet, like Chuck vs. The Baby (which was a great episode, by the way). But it was good. So good. Chuck, as a series, has for me been added to a very short list of some of the best bittersweet stories I've ever heard/read/seen. Other titles on that list are Lord of the Rings (books), probably Harry Potter (again, books), and maybe Dante's Divine Comedy (surprise! books). That final ending montage, starting from Alex and Morgan telling Casey their surprise, reminded me strongly of the ending of Lord of the Rings, as one by one, the companions drop off and go back to their own lives. It is overwhelmingly sad, but also happy and satisfying in a deep way that few stories are.

I'm actually tearing up again as I write this, thinking of how all of the friends are going their separate ways at the end; Ellie and Awesome to Chicago, Casey to find Gertrude, Jeff and Lester to Germany... and most of all, Chuck and Sarah reconnecting. That last part is a strange mixture of heartbreaking and hopeful, as you know that things will never be the same between them because of the lost years of Sarah's life, and yet it's also clear that they will work it out. It's not what I would have expected. Perhaps, to modify a line from Dark Knight, it's not the ending we wanted, but the ending we needed.

Bravo.

I loved the show, but hated the ending

Without spoilers for those who haven't seen it yet. I only binged within the last year (2019) I loved the show and character progression. However the cliff hanger ending killed me. Yvonne is an absolute bombshell!

Zachary is great... but Yvonne is the best
rulogarrulo197613 December 2014
I knew the TV show after watch "24: Live another day", and then i saw the 98 episodes in only 3 weeks...

It's the perfect end. Chemistry between Zachary and Yvonne is perfect. And her role...it's as if the writers had written the role of Sarah Walker after meeting her. His performance in 24 did see a great actress , and when I started to see Chuck was confirmed ; Is able to adapt to any situation and with its beauty and sympathy full screen

I really miss them. Thank you for the show, and i wait for the movie, Zach.

From now on I have two more players to follow. I think Zach and Yvonne will do great things in the future

OMG - great show, hated how it ended, but at least glimmer of hope all will be ok
autobot-2204913 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I just watched all 5 season July 2021. Loved tech, drama, and especially romance..

I am just guy (albeit 10+years after show began 2007) that fell in love with Sarah (Yvonne). I, like so many others hetro-men back than must have fell to our knees to have a woman so beautiful, passionate and desire same type of relationship with chemistry Sarah & Chuck shares - yes, me a guy just said this. Sarah's passion portraid in show was always so believable that my stomach aches with each near miss they had and then bit jealousy when they came together because you want to be Chuck with Sarah...

First three seasons I was hooked, shed some happy and sad tears too... Season 4 had few ups and downs, but full in for engagement, ... marriage with some more water from me. I freaked when Sarah ended up in hospital, literally fear this was season finale she would not be in 5th season. But good news is the 4th eason ended the way it should have, good guys win and Sarah & Chuck together!!! Only thing that would have made it better.. Sarah and I. ;-)

I believe 5th season was one big goodbye to Chuck's viewers. I am probably wrong, but I wonder if he pool scene season 5, episode 4 was partly for show and event for cast to have little fun in final season too. As I look back, I also recall hints of memory issues that eventually culminated into the final episodes in 5th season that would break their relationship and my heart - there was no coming back like we had in previous series. Some may say what a great Hollywood twist ending, but this show was not meant to end this way.

In 5th season, the final few episodes were heart wrenchingly breaking, I was so invested is series I felt betrayed by writers - my heart was broken and felt emotional pain and shared tears. I wonder if more so because I did binge watch them.

It is terrible that a few more episodes could not be done to bring them back together - I would have been happier if series ended after 4th season...happily ever after... I invested a lot of time watching the whole series.

Maybe 2021/22 - years later a few new episodes can be made that give glimpse back into there character lives also covering years working them back together and to reunite them and passion. We need good endings, especially given past few years whole world suffered. Make us happy!!

Something the whole series gave us viewers allowed us to escape real life. It was supposed to be fun, exciting, happily ever after journey that should have ended same.

Fantastic show, but bitter/sweet about series end !!!!

Good but to be quite honest a bad ending for the last ever season of Chuck
lisafordeay6 June 2013
Warning: Spoilers
OK so i've been watching Chuck for the past 5 or 6 months straight on some site that I came across and I enjoyed A lot of the seasons from Season 1 where we see a nerdy looking Chuck Bartoski(Eugene Fitzherbert himself Zachary Levi) meeting Sarah Walker(Aussie's Yvonne Stranhoski),Season 2 where we see Chuck and Sarah bonding and Chuck getting a new intersect in his head,Season 3 where Chuck's dad gets shot by another Aussie actor Superman Return's Brandon Roth and Sarah FINALLY admitting that she loves Chuck,Season 4 where Chuck and Sarah are getting hitched and defeating Vancoff, and now this last ever Season of Chuck which to be fair SHOULD get ANOTHER Season or at least a spin off. The last two episodes were good (especially Chuck VS Sarah) where we see a broken down Chuck holding back tears and trying to explain to Sarah that she is married to him,and that he told her that she loved him and all this stuff THEN at this episode we see her saying to him to kiss her at THAT WAS IT.

I mean COME ON guys seriously I know it was cute and all but I would have loved if it ended where Chuck and Sarah found a formula that would give her back her old memories of Chuck and the two got their dream house and became one big happy family(maybe I'm being a little bit paranoid, but still WHY did they Axe such a good show for). Zachary Levi was so good and so witty,Yvonne was brilliant as Sarah Walker I mean GOD she can KICK BUTT,Adam was funny as Casey the serious non witty guy who would easily lose his temper,Josh as Morgan was hilarious, same goes for those two dudes who remind me of Dumb and Dumber LOL the Asian guy and his dim-witted mate.

But still it was sad to see such a good show go to waste, but I'm looking forward to seeing Mr Levi in more GOOD movies and also on his Broadway debut,I mean who knows this guy could get a record deal(if you seen Tangled you know why).

Overall I'm giving it a 6/10

A crushing end to a beautiful journey
kaustuvm130 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Every show has a theme to it. Chuck's is a mix of love, action and comedy beautifully wrapped together in the first four seasons. And the show should have ended in the fourth season. Chuck isn't a series to have a sad and depressing end or a realistic one for that matter. Because a lot of things in this show are far from reality. It isn't your go to spy action TV series like 24 or Homeland where the focus is on intricate details of a mission and the heroics and sacrifices of the lead protagonist. It's a journey of love, comedy, smiles, relationships and subtle changes.

I liked Chuck because of the journey of Sarah and Chuck, where they fall in love with subtle character development throughout the show, filled with good comical moments from BuyMore store, Morgan and Jeffster. What made it SPECIAL was the strong emotional bond and connection that Chuck and Sarah developed over four years, with an amazing chemistry between the two actors.

That connection and the journey made this show feel special. The last 2 episodes of the show where Sarah lost her memory to a rogue agent(whose own character os no where as cunning like Volkoff) CRUSHED this connection and with it the last 4 brilliant seasons of the show itself. When I was watching Chuck, I thought to myself I could get myself the complete DVD package where you can re-watch the seasons with your loved ones again after some time to enjoy the beautiful moments of Sarah and Chuck and smile through it. Because Chuck is a series which deserved a happy ending and should have had the ending of season 4 where they got married. This ending just crushed all the subtle moments of the show in an instant.

My first review, feel special chuck feel special! :)
wootsno15 September 2013
Warning: Spoilers
I was going to rate this a one because of the ending. I need to see chuck my fourth favorite character from TV land be happy and have the life that should have been.

I've literally just borrowed seasons 1-5 from my brother and was hooked watching it till i finished it. But the ending was just so not cool.

The only thing i could have been happy with was Sarah and chucks kiss bringing her memories back. The storyline was incredibly amazing tore at my heartstrings but should have shown a happy ending to a truly amazing show!

This is one show i could never get over for ending.

The finale is perfect don't listen to the haters
kmc49810 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I've watched the ending multiple times, and the more I watch it, the more I love it and think it was the perfect way to end the show. Those who hate the end just see the surface of the show and wanted everything to tie into a neat little bow. But that the end still had you wanting more and kept thinking about is what is so great about it. It really reminded me of The Notebook. It even made me think of the whole series in a different light, like what if the whole series is really just him telling her their stories. I've watched interviews about how they created this ending, with the Easter eggs referencing to the pilot, and the actors on the verge of tears (which I truly think wasn't all acting). You can tell how much love and care they really put into this show. I wouldn't change anything about the ending.

Great way to end everything
whifferrack9 April 2012
Warning: Spoilers
I gotta admit, I was ecstatic when Chuck was renewed for its 5th season.I went out to buy a Subway sub (didn't end up eating it, but it's the thought that counts). While the episodes before this one weren't all that Chuck great, they led up nicely here. Everything of course tied back to the pilot episode (bomb, Wienerlicious, the beach) and the last scene was great. I just wish Ellie/Awesome had a better send off than "Yay, let's move!" Also, the Nicholas Quinn storyline ended quickly, which of course says how important the writers really thought of it. They could've come up with something better. However, this was overall a fantastic episode. Goodbye Chuck. I will miss being one of your 3 million people watching every episode.

One word "Jeffster"
danamae5147927 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I have watched this series over and over again. I love it. There was a time where Chuck was jumping around streaming services so to avoid multiple subscriptions I just bought the DVD box set. That was a great investment. The behind the scene interviews and extras are fun. One thing I greatly appreciate from this series is the musical scores. I love how each character has their own theme music. Big Mike, Roan, Colonel Casey all have distinct musical accompaniments when they are making a debut on screen. Another great musical aspect is the 80's angle.they don't disappoint by playing many of the favorite 80's hits. Speaking of, does it get better than Jeffster performing Take on Me with a full orchestra accompanying them? Gives me chills every time I watch. On days when I feel down and out I turn on this episode just to get a little Jeffster. Rock on dudes!! What a show. I hope they have a reunion of some sort. I'd love to see if Chuck and Sarah reconciled, did Morgan and Alex get married? Did Casey catch up with Gertrude? Did Chuck and Sarah in fact have little kids that turned out to be ninjas? So many story lines possible over a decade later. This show was good clean fun. I miss that. Hoping for more.

What a way to end
bluecrayne5 January 2016
Warning: Spoilers
If you have not watched it yet don't read on it is short but its will spoil the episode for you With every end to a season you say there has just got to be another season, so when read the title chuck vs the goodbye. I knew it was at the end. I a grown man felt the tears wanting to come out right through the movie but the beach scene is where Chuck and Sarah were speaking and when she says I don't remember anything and then the last kiss. boy oh boy. It looks like she remembers but she doesn't. just wish it could of ended better. Why couldn't she just like stand up and all of a sudden fall down on the sand then scream Chuck!!!! she holds her tummy and she feels a kick inside, chuck runs to her and she then says chuck grabs him and then kisses him again and say i remember and hold his hand on her tummy and he feels the kick. then ends but then again we would want more of chuck. But this episode was the best to the end.

A smile and a tear
brrzzpffrt9 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
So after I was wondering why there was a season after what would have been the picture perfect finale with the wedding and all, I kept wondering because the final season starts rather lame. Still entertaining, but absolutely not on par.

The final episodes, littered with plot devices, almost feels like it should have been a full season, not this half thing.

What really grinds my gears however is so many reviews moaning so much about not being quite literally toured through the perfect life of Chuck & Sarah in retirement. I get it, yes, I would have loved the Happy Ending™, but leaving this to a little imagination (why would she ever agree to try out Morgan's "Disney" method? Think, seriously. Think.) This way, you get something that leaves you with a little heartache and some room to fill with joy as you think about them tying loose ends, taking their time and her memory slowly coming back (plus, they kept coming up with devices, even weird cards etc, so you really think there's not a single option left?) while she falls in love with him all over again and maybe a year later, they got their dream house and the toes in the sand and everything.

It's like you people are trying to make yourselves miserable. It's one of the best light hearted love stories on TV in the past two decades and it's precisely because they know very well how to play your heart strings. This is a part of it and it's memorable like none other.

One of the most satisfying series finales.
dewlover42011 March 2021
Wow. This was shockingly my first time seeing the finale. I'd seen the show before, but as mentioned in my last two reviews, the last thing I remembered about the show was the bullet train.

An awesome episode overall, and I have no problems. Just maybe the nitpick of missing out on the intro one last time. Considering bullet train had a different intro, and then back to the regular last episode. Only to not do it this episode.

I can't spoil, but this episode had a great plot and ended the series well and even did character endings. This was planned, unlike what I thought I remembered.

It's my fourth favorite show ever. My Top 3 has remained unchanged for years. I'm pretty certain that statement will now be about my Top 4.

There's nothing wrong with a happy ending
secret_arash19 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Chuck follows a fun and fantasy-based story during 5 seasons which evolved a Lot of love stories and friendships. The relationships of these lovely characters is what defines this show. It isn't about the spy stuff. In my opinion, the love story of Chuck and Sarah is among the top 10 ones in the history of television. However, the ending makes it fall so low from that level. The whole plot of memory loss of Sarah was quite good for a final season, especially what we saw in the Penultimate. But everything was directed towards a happy ending not a maybe in an open ended episode.

From the beginning, Chuck showed us how needs needs Geeks can have amazing things happen to them and even get the girl if they put their minds to it. So you cannot take that all away in the end. You're basically saying to those guys that in the end they will somehow lose everything.

The show rapped upped every other character's story amazingly but boy did they ruin Chuck and Sarah. I mean what was the whole point of showing their dream house to us and drawing themselves with a baby. This is exactly what should have happened. THIS IS what should have been the final scene. Chuck and Sarah (maybe even pregnant Sarah), sitting around a fireplace in their home and talking about their great times together. There would have been nothing wrong with such happy ending. It would have been the perfect thing.

Maybe they wanted to be different and unpredictable and that's okay but you cannot put aside the logic of 5 seasons for that purpose.

Overall, I really loved this show, especially the first three seasons. But unfortunately the unsatisfying ending left its mark on my memory and made the show a bit forgettable for me.

Season 5
bcom-unisastudent29 January 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Let me preface by saying I am a huge fan of Chuck. It contained the right mix of comedy, drama, action, character development and nerdherd-iness.

If the producers knew what was coming in season 5 I am very disappointed that they went ahead with it. This season did such a disservice to Chuck as a franchise. I just feel the season was very forced, there was no flow. If I were the producers I would have stopped Chuck at the end of season 4 minus Grimes getting the intersect. If they had to go ahead with season 5 then I would have added some filler episodes and finished it up with Chuck versus the Baby when it ended with everyone having a special time together.

I wish I hadn't watched season 5 because Sarah's memory loss seemed like a betrayal. I wouldn't have been upset if this is how Battle Star Galactica ended but this is Chuck. As some reviewers have said when we re-watch Chuck and see all those special episodes where Sarah grows and falls in love with Chuck it will all be for nought. At the end of the day it was a sad and depressing end to a fantastic and mostly light hearted show.

An amazing series finale to a spy show!
samog-982899 March 2023
After watching all 5 seasons of Chuck on 7+ here's my spoiler-free review of the show's series finale season 5 episode 13 Chuck Versus the Goodbye! As usual, I'll be talking about my thoughts, what I enjoyed most about watching the series & my conclusion/rating! If you liked Zachary Levi in SHAZAM! Then you'll love him in this too, Yvonne Strahovski is brilliant in this as well, and Adam Baldwin is fantastic as John Casey just like he was as Jayne Cobb in Firefly! I loved how there were so many callbacks & references to the previous seasons and characters returning as well! Zachary Levi only directs for this series & I would love to see him direct a movie or another TV show at some point! Overall I enjoyed watching this from beginning to end and I would love to see a Chuck movie someday! That's why I'm giving this series finale a 9/10! Goodbye Chuck, I'll miss you! ;-)

A great end to a great show
brendasmpt28 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The writers of this series really honored the fans of the show on this last episode by bringing up so many things that happened in the first season. This episode brought the fans back to the beginning. It is wonderful how they finished up the last big mission, including the musical talents of Jeffster, and using how they solved their first mission they were ever on to complete their last mission. It was also good to see Linda Hamilton one more time playing Mary Bartowski and showing Casey chasing after love. They wrapped up all the character storylines in a satisfactory manner. I know some people don't like how it ended, but I think it ends with hope because Sarah is at the beach where Chuck was at the end of the first episode and wants Chuck to tell her a story and then tells him to kiss her. Their love can never be erased. This episode makes me cry every time I've watched it which is about six or seven times.
