Dean makes a difficult choice and Castiel is human...
skjoe-19 October 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Season 9 kicks off right were season 8 left us. Sam is (once again) dying with Dean watching over him and Castiel is lost in the woods after Metatron stole his grace. This episode is split between Dean trying to find a way to save Sam, Castiel coming to terms with the aftermath of the Heaven lock-down and Sam trapped in his mind, fighting for his life. Well acted as usual is Jensen Ackles, trying so hard to look after his brother, taking beatings from Angels and desperately finding a way to bring Sam back. Although its a similar to previous seasons when Sams in trouble, the way Dean brings his caring side and determination to save his brother is something fans love to see. Castiel wakes up in the woods, lost and confused. With his grace gone he has become 100% human. Meaning he eats, sleeps, feels pain and even attempts to wash his clothes. He finds another fallen angel and soon realises he is being blamed for Metatrons actions. Although Castiel is always trying to help and do the right thing, it tends to backfire for him and create shock waves that tend to affect the whole season. My favourite part though is inside Sam's mind. With Dean acting as his fighting side to keep him alive, two familiar faces eventually emerge to try and sway Sam to end his life, I hope fans will be as pleased as I was to see these characters return. This season opener probably wont appeal to new fans, but for the rest it leaves many questions open. I was expecting a little more, possibly Crowley or Kevin but im sure they will emerge next episode. I think this season is set up for a good plot, with all the main characters having something interesting to work off. I just hope we get a good big bad this season, I felt the last season lacked that dark, evil, destroy the world side that previous seasons had (Lucifer, Eve, Leviathan etc.) Overall, a promising start...

Good opening

Warning: Spoilers
I am just going to go on record to say I was so irritated when I heard they were bringing Bobby back. I was just frustrated and mad and irked. But I feel a thousand times better about it now that I have seen how they were going to do it. I liked how he represented the side in Sam that was OK with dying. I thought no one could do it better than Bobby. Death coming back for that scene was such a joy. Death is one of the best characters on the show. He doesn't care who wins and who loses. He is the true victor of any side, and that is what I love about him. There is no lust for power, or anything like that. In the end, he knows he will reap everyone, even God. That laundromat scene nearly had me in tears. It was so powerful and meaningful. It was him shedding everything he has ever been, the Castiel that we know and love. First we watch him take off his entire outfit, one thing that has been a constant of him throughout the 5 seasons we have seen him. But instead of washing it, he spies the food and realizes he has to eat. Cas never has to eat, unless he's around Famine then look out burger joints, and so to see his face, his body language so conflicted, trying to choose between clean clothes or food... It was powerful and Misha pulled it off perfectly. But the award for perfect acting tonight goes without a doubt to Jared. That scene between him and Death murdered me. Where he just wants to die, and stay dead. Alive or dead, Sam causes pain on those he loves, even though he doesn't mean it, and I can't blame him for asking, making a deal that he would finally stay dead. Jared was flawless delivering those lines, and it was heart wrenching. Can I just say, wtf was up with Hael? Write in a creeper who wants to become one with Castiel, and then stab her and kill her off. But we all can't blame her. Misha is pretty attractive. But I'm just thinking, if you are going to take the time to introduce such a creeper, make Cas' situation with her scary, and then just kill her off like that? Come on. What a waste. And then there's just using Tahmoh Penikett for that one part of the episode. He is so quality that they only use him for that? Disappoint.I really want to see more of him, and hopefully Ezekiel will get that vessel back. Worst part of the episode, easily: 'There ain't no me, if there ain't no you'. I'm sorry. Felt like poor writing and not something Dean would say. Even Fake Ezekiel Dean. They could have written something far better. Come on, Jeremy Carver! You're not Sera Gamble! I hate that line, and I never want to see it again. Peace out, bitches~

An Alright Premiere
danajs246 September 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Not super happy we're gonna have to deal with Sam's health again for an entire season. He's already whiney enough as it is, now he's going to be a barely recovering coma patient? The idea of Cas being mortal is pretty cool, I'm sure he'll get a regular job and be a working stiff pretty quick. Idk how I feel about the angels falling, was looking forward to a new bad guy to deal with instead of the usual demon and angel thing. This Ezekiel guy is clearly going to be bad news eventually, I just wonder how long it's going to take before he refuses to get out of Sam's body, and then how bad Sam will freak out when he inevitably finds out about it about halfway through the season.

Awesome plot for season 9!!

Warning: Spoilers
The climax in the season 8 finale left everyone in splits. Each of us had different viewpoints regarding the falling of angels.Of course, that was the beautiful aspect of the finale. Now, Cass' days of flying(literally) are over. He is back to human form and is rusty. Dean again successfully saved Sam from "The Death". Both are now ready to fight for restoring the order in heaven. I personally think this is gonna be a cracker of a season. It will be interesting to see how angels and demons deal with one another on the earth. Expecting Crowley and Kevin to show up in next episodes.

A good start but enough of the big lie melodrama
CubsandCulture14 September 2020
I have never really liked the heaven storylines on the show. You can tell that angels were an added concept and they writer's made am initial mistake of having angels too powerful. Because of that the writers had to contrive a lot of different ways to keep the Winchester meaningfully involved in those plots-largely involving Cas. The result have been mixed, creaky. But season 8 really goes a long way to correct this and the writers really strove to have a logical and grand angel story, for once. This episode sets in motion a lot of the best parts of the season-human!Cas, human!Crowley etc.-and it is a good place to start. I even like Zeke as a side character and the script is tight enough to give him a solid characterization.

Unfortunately, the writers decided to-once again-have one brother lie to other and have a secret. This has happened as a big central tension of an arch in seasons 4, 6, 1. It is a repeated as a minor subplot in most of the other seasons as well. The usage in this episode-and throughout the season-feels tired. It's not per se but we have seen this story before.

Sam/Ezekiel, Dean, Castiel
revba30 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The writers continue to amaze me with the Angels storylines & plots that I could not fathom any and all of what I've seen.

All I knew that Sam had to say YES to live and NOT be taken by DEATH because he has 7 more Seasons (including this one) to get through. He can't come up permanently dead! He should hopefully have a strong and willing Angel Ezekiel to help strengthen him physically & mentally to full capacity.

Poor Cas he always gets the raw end of the entire situation especially when he gets beaten up by Dean verbally. I hope he does NOT have to remain human to long.....I don't know if it would be helpful to his character role.

Supernatural running out of story ideas for season nine!
mm-3919 October 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Supernatural running out of ideas for season nine. Supernatural's season nine premiere episode "I Think I'm Gonna Like It Here" outlined season nine's new sub-stories: Sam is dying, again, and Dean gets an angel to help save Sam. Another Dean's hidden secret storyline. Cassitiel loses his powers again. Crowley is locked in Dean's trunk which is a new storyline. Sam and Dean must battle new problems from last season which is the same as every other season. Even if most of the sub-stories are retreaded, the directing and acting still makes for entertaining television. I give the season premiere an eight out of ten.
