If you’ve ever wondered what a horror classic would look like as a ‘Lifetime’ movie, wonder no more! The Strangers: Chapter 1 (2024), directed by Renny Harlin, attempts to reboot Bryan Bertino’s original 2008 nightmare, but ends up delivering a bland, repetitive version that lacks the harrowing bite of its predecessor.
“…lacks the harrowing bite of its predecessor.”
The plot follows Maya (Madelaine Petsch) and her boyfriend Ryan (Froy Gutierrez), who are on a road trip to start a new life in the Pacific Northwest, or something. Their journey comes to an abrupt halt when their car breaks down in the small town of Venus, Oregon. They’re forced to spend the night in an isolated Airbnb, a hunting cabin at the edge of town, where three masked psychopaths decide to pay them an unwelcome visit.
The film’s biggest fault is that it meanders through a story audiences have already seen.

With the recent news of the Redfall developer studio being closed, numerous fans have vented their outrage and disappointment towards Bethesda regarding this. While the game itself has performed poorly since launch and is subject to multiple negative reviews, there are those fans who still hold out hope for some sort of future for the title.
Many fans had purchased the $100 Bite Back Edition in the hopes that there would be significant content for the live-service title. However, it appears that all the planned content that was promised to fans for the game will not be coming any time soon. Recent developments appear to have put a stop to any further work being put into this title.

The gaming industry is going through a very tough time. News of layoffs and studio closures are getting far too common, with reports of Take-Two shutting down Rollerdrome developer Roll7 going public just a few days ago, and Deliver Us Mars developer KeokeN also laying off its entire team.
Now, it’s been devastatingly discovered that Xbox has shuttered four studios under the Bethesda umbrella, with one of them having delivered arguably the best Xbox game in recent years.
Hi-Fi Rush Developer Tango Gameworks Closed By Xbox
Tango’s delightful rhythm brawler will never be continued, and that’s a certifiable disappointment.
IGN first reported on the news, as they received a copy of an official email that announced Xbox will be closing down Arkane Austin, Tango Gameworks, Alpha Dog, and Roundhouse Games. The platform holder acquired these studios as part of the $7.5B Zenimax acquisition in 2021.

Thanks to a leaked email from Matt Booty, Xbox will be closing down several studios for good. Arkane Austin is one of these studios; this dev team was responsible for developing Redfall, one of Bethesda’s biggest failures. This live-service title receives almost no attention from the players.
The studio’s closure means no more updates for the game, and the $100-cost Bite Back Edition owners will receive the same amount of credit. The Hero Pass will not be released, so the game will no longer receive any kind of content.

Sting releases April 12th, 2024.
I love a good creature-feature. Low budget? No problem! Campy and over-the-top? Bring it on! The draw is even stronger when that creature is something that exists in the real-world. Whether it be a larger than life alligator, a drugged-up black bear or — in this case — a spider. Granted, the titular creature in Kiah Roache-Turner’s Sting no ordinary Earth-born spider, but she’s a spider nonetheless. These types of movies aren’t always good, but they’re (for the most part) entertaining. This time… it’s both.

Glad-handing is a competitive sport, one that’s all but impossible to win with both paws buried in a seafood tower. Such is the eternal conundrum of the awards season party circuit. These are celebrations, sure, yet the pressure to network, posture and kiss any proverbial ring that may be offered so often undermines that most basic of human urges: to cobble together a meal from passed hors d’oeuvres — especially after enduring a three-hour screening or even longer awards show on an empty stomach. It shouldn’t be so hard! And, thankfully, it needn’t be. By keeping a few helpful tips in mind — and, when the moments arise, in hand — any industry party can be professionally productive and filling.

Last year, Ashley Greene (the Twilight saga) and Shawn Ashmore (Adam Green’s Frozen) shared the screen in the Netflix-released thriller Aftermath. Now Deadline reports that Greene and Ashmore have been reunited on the set of the supernatural horror film It Feeds, which is currently in production.
It Feeds will tell the story of a young girl who insists that a malevolent entity is feeding on her. Greene’s character is “a clairvoyant therapist who must confront her own personal demons to save the girl before she is taken completely.” Ashmore is playing “the anguished father, desperately struggling to protect his daughter.”
Deadline doesn’t name the director of It Feeds or the screenwriter, but they do mention that this film is the first in what is planned to be a ten-film slate of genre projects that’s coming our way from Productivity Media Inc and Black Fawn Films.

Great news for fans of CBS’ short-lived BrainDead: Robert and Michelle King are bringing similar sci-fi absurdity to The Bite, their satirical Covid drama premiering Friday, May 21 on Spectrum.
Like many series have in the past year, The Bite centers on the Covid-19 pandemic — but this is a fictional strain of the virus that seems to turn infected people into something very zombie-like. (“Zombies are fictional,” Steven Pasquale’s CDC doc says in the trailer below, but we’re not sure how else he’d explain the virus’ thrashing, purple-faced victims.)

Director: Chad Archibald. Writer: Jayme Laforest. Cast: Aidan Devine, Ava Preston, Jess Salgueiro, Michael Reventar and Ari Millen. I'll Take Your Dead is the latest horror film from director Chad Archibald and his production house Black Fawn Films. Also developed by Breakthrough Entertainment and writer Jayme Laforest, I'll Take Your Dead could only have been shot in the snowy climes of Ontario. One part gangster thriller and one part ghost story, I'll Take Your Dead begins with a father - trying to protect his daughter. His work of choice is dissolving bodies, for the local gangbangers. Not much later, Act II slows the film's plot development, while supernatural elements waver in and out of the film. Overall, I'll Take Your Dead is a decent thriller, which requires a bit of patience. The ghost story elements begin with a robbery. But, what are the rules for ghosts entering or exiting scenes and being seen?...

Director Chad Archibald first came to my attention with the slasher that isn’t half as popular as it should be, The Drownsman (it could easily be an ongoing franchise). He followed that up with the intriguing Ejecta and then the gross-out body horror of Bite. The Heretics is the latest offering from a director that is not afraid to shake things up.
The Heretics takes what is a simple story of a woman being kidnapped and turns it completely on its head. What we also get are cults, suicides, crazy girlfriends and some sort of demon. That’s quite a lot to pack into an hour and twenty five minutes. But pack it in it does and the time flies by… Pretty much jumping straight into...

*full disclosure: an online screener was provided by the film's pr' firm. Direct: Chad Archibald. Writer: Jayme Laforest. Cast: Nina Kiri, Ry Barret, Jorja Cadence, Nina Richmond and Will King. Black Fawn Films is likely the biggest Canadian indie horror film producer. This film company has completed at least eight titles, in just a few years. Their latest is titled The Heretics and it was written by Jayme Laforest, who also wrote 2015's Bite. Both films deal with body horror and a female protagonist. This title incorporates one of the worst sex scenes, in recent film history. Always say no to demon sex, no matter how attractive the offer is. The story, within the film, deals with the birth of a demon - Abaddon and his desire to end the world. Similar to Jon Knautz's The Shrine (2011), characters are overcome through possession. In The Heretics, this reduces the protagonist's ability to resist evil.
