Another addition to a great series!

These movies never disappoint! I love that Dani was the one to figure out the mystery first. Also, that house was stunning! I would definitely spend a creepy night there haha!

Knock...Knock.... Who is there?
Ed-Shullivan3 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Just another classic Garage Sale Mystery episode. I will admit that neither Mrs. Shullivan nor I picked the right murder suspect in this whodunit mystery. What adds so much family value to this mystery series is how Lori Loughlin seamlessly balances her character as Jennifer Shannon from antique store owner, mother, and of course as our pixy amateur sleuth.

SPOILER IN THIS PARAGRAPH There is a host of potential murder suspects in the sudden death of the 35 year old realtor Adrian (Janet Kidder) who decided upon herself to sleep in her purported haunted house which she is trying to sell and so she slept during a live webcast to prove that the house was not haunted. By morning she was D.E.A.D.. The actual mystery is not that Adrian the realtor died in a purported haunted house because of she did not die we would not have a mystery to solve now world we?

As Jennifer Shannon jumps right into her crime solving character she also tries to assist her daughter Hannah (Eva Bourne) in knowing what is considered to be a "good find" as well as what is considered to be " a not so good find" in the antique store business.

If this did not keep Jennifer busy enough she also has some motherly wise advice for her son Logan (Brendan Meyer) who is very green in the area of teenage dating, specifically when it comes to the well known Sadie Hawkins day dance when the girl gets to ask the boy for a date to the annual school dance.

This is a busy Garage Sale Mystery filled with intrigue, a cast of potential murder suspects, and of course the entire Shannon family has a part to play in the family household dynamics. Mrs. Shullivan and I give this particular episode a two (2) thumbs up, and I give it an 8 out of 10 rating.

Slightly average murder mystery
MickyG3337 May 2023
7.1 stars.

I will give this particular story an above average rating, which means 7.1. An average movie for me is anything between 6.0 and 7.0, meaning I'll not make an effort to see it again. I will be fair and say 'The Deadly Room' is ever so slightly above average. Will I ever watch it again in my life, probably not, I have many bigger and better films to revisit in my remaining time on this planet. This is the first of the 'Garage Sale Mysteries' I've had the opportunity to critique. This is comparable to 'Crossword Mysteries' in quality, maybe a little better if I'm being honest. The other mystery series I've seen is 'Mystery 101', which is unquestionably superior to them both. I have several 'Chronicle Mysteries' and more 'Crossword Mysteries' to view, so for now - to be continued...

Is a room responsible for killing people in this cosy antique mystery?
cgvsluis2 June 2023
On the Eve of it's open house, news comes out that The Collins House is cursed and Jennifer's friend Adrian, who is the real estate agent plans on staying overnight in it on a live webcam to prove that it isn't. Only her plan backfires and Adrian ends up dead...live and on camera. Our intrepid purveyor of antiques Jennifer Shannon is determined to figure out what happened. This is a bit of a closed room mystery and a first in the garage sale mystery series based on books by Suzi Weinert, the third film in the series on Hallmark. It is also the first to start with a historical story, which seems appropriate for this antique heavy series.

Daughter Hannah has been recast and is now played by a Eva Bourne, otherwise the rest of the cast returns from the second film.

"I got it! Blow gun"-Dani.

The historic story involves a previous owner dying in the "deadly room" from typhus. There is a sub-story involving the son Logan and a Sadie Hawkins like dance. For some reason the daughter Hannah, who was going to lawschool in the first film, is suddenly working for her mom at their antique shop Rags to Riches.

Decent mystery and a recommendation from me...I think Cosy mystery fans will enjoy it.

Mystery show that is getting better
wjspears6 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The later Hallmark Mystery shows are noticeably better than the earlier mystery shows. Two annoying features are typically present in the earlier shows, that tend not to be present in the later incarnations of mysteries on the channel.

The two annoyances are related. One is that the heroine tends to be a lone wolf, going off on her own even without any of her friends, let alone the police. The second annoyance is that the police are if not outright hostile to the heroine's advice, they are always scolding her to stay out of the business of detecting--even as her intuitions inevitably turn out to be accurate.

Later Hallmark Mysteries might have the pilot show exhibiting either one or both of these traits. But the Hallmark producers typically side-line these two annoyances to make for a generally more pleasant viewing experience.

In the first two episodes of Garage Sale Mysteries, both of these annoyances were very present--particularly the police detective scolding the heroine, Jennifer (Lori Loughlin) for butting in to an on-going investigation.

In this episode, the police detective, who is shown to be a friend of Jennifer's tones down the scolding considerably. But Jennifer withholds a crucial piece of evidence from that detective friend, evidence that only she has figured out. Why Jennifer does this is inexplicable--and almost leads to her murder.

Earlier, Jennifer has gone to the house where the murder occurred--without telling anyone she is doing so--and she gets trapped in a hidden room she has just discovered.

In both cases, the writers undoubtedly see this as suspenseful. But for most mystery fans, I believe, they see it unbelievably stupid--in other words annoying.

That said, I found this episode to be well thought-out and written "locked-room" mystery. Plus the ensemble of friends and family around Jennifer feels increasingly comfortable to spend time watching. The reemergence of Jennifer's college daughter in this episode was welcome.

Jennifer's impatience when things are not "adding up", and her inability to "just leave things alone" is fun to watch. These are the qualities that mystery fans love about exceptional fictional detectives. Lori Loughlin is a pleasing actor to watch exhibiting these qualities.

The Deadly Room
coltras3528 June 2023
Jenn suspects foul play when her friend dies in an old house with a cursed reputation. Even though police evidence - and even webcam footage of the death - point to natural causes - this mysterious death in a cursed" home poised for multi-million dollar sale seems too coincidental. Putting her keen instincts to work, she examines a few key suspects. As she digs into this deadly mystery, she uncovers clues that bring her closer to the truth, and even put her own life in danger.

There's a dead body but no signs of unnatural death, wounds and the live cam shows no killer in sight, which makes a unique feature in this excellent whodunnit. With the help of her son, Jenn gradually pieces together how her friend was murdered.

As she slept
bkoganbing16 June 2017
Back in the day movie houses always had hidden rooms and staircases the better to serve the villain's nefarious ends. A house that's being put up for sale has one of those and a staircase. It also has a peephole into the bedroom for voyeurs or for some blackmail photography. The place had an unsavory reputation.

This all starts when Lori Loughlin's friend Janet Kidder borrows an antique statue for display in the house for buyers. To prove that there's no such thing as evil spirits haunting the place she has herself videotaped sleeping at the place. Kidder is the listed real estate agent and there's a lot of money riding on this for her. But it turns out her life was riding on it as well.

No one can figure it out, she's just dead. But Loughlin is fortunate to have a computer nerd son who helps immensely. But in discovering the how, she forgot the who.

Two things bothered me with this one. Forensics should have been able to find something and the 'souvenir' the perpetrator kept of the killing was the final nail on that coffin.

Not one of the better Hallmark mysteries.

Beware geeks bearing gifts
pensman5 June 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Adrian is showing a house and borrows a figurine from her friend Jennifer's antique store. The open house goes well and there are three buyers, but suddenly a story appears about the house having a cursed room and good-bye buyers. Adrian is seeing her commission disappear, so she decides to spend a night sleeping in the cursed room while broadcasting a live webcast. Unfortunately (big surprise), she is found dead the next morning. The local coroner rules it's an accidental death but . . . .

And we have suspects: even though the house had been completely refurbished by Erica, there is Donald Lennox who wanted to rip it down and put up an apartment house; another contender, Peter, who was a one time friend but now is a competitor, is jealous as he didn't get the listing; and a relative of the original family, William Carson, who is now into online gambling, wants the house back in his family; almost forget—Adrian has a sister, Tina, who could care less her sister died and is looking to make a buck by selling off the furnishings. Oh, and Tina is in a "relationship" with— wait for it—William Carson. Well it doesn't take Jennifer long to know something is wrong, and as she prowls about the murder house, she finds a secret room and staircase that Erica knew existed but failed to mention. And Jennifer found a clue on the hidden stairway that might indicate Adrian had been injected with something that killed her while she slept. Erica is now moved to suspect. But Adrian was on a live webcast, so how and who injected her? The only ally is geeky Peter who keeps offering up one impossible scenario after another.

Well not completely true because Jennifer's son Logan is a computer nerd who can do things many forensic computer experts would admire, including help mom solve the case.

Oh, and there is a very lame subplot about Jennifer trying to fix up her son, Logan, on a date for a girl ask boy dance. Lame, as Logan is a "hunk," and the girl who is interested is a skate boarding, tomboyish, no make up wearing possible ugly duckling. No mystery how this will turn out: Hallmark Channel after all.

Ridicolous
gianmarcoronconi14 July 2022
I don't know how to describe this film except with the word ridiculous, it's all too far-fetched and hasty and the acting has something mechanical and unnatural, for heaven's sake the plot is also interesting and the film is light to see, but otherwise this movie is really ridiculous.
