Dark City (1998)
A Visual Triumph And a Profound, Exciting Look at a Nightmarish World...
20 February 1999
When John Murdoch (Rufus Sewell) awakens in a strange hotel room, he finds that he is wanted for a series of brutal murders. The problem is he can't remember a thing. Pursued by a police detective (William Hurt) and haunted by a group of mysterious people called The Strangers. The Strangers, mysterious beings who possess the ability to stop time and alter reality, he seeks to unravel the twisted riddle of his identity. But in a city where reality is the ultimate illusion, discovering the truth could be fatal.

Dark City is directed by the brilliant and creative Alex Proyas who deserved the credit given him. In Dark City, Proyas surrounds himself with a number of creative thoughts and excellent sets and surroundings. This film belongs in the collection of every science fiction lover - the film is truly out of this world in so many ways. The actors are all great and I really like Kiefer Sutherland as the mad-scientist type. This is a sci/fi cult classic. Thad had little to do with the film's story and the performances by the lead actors, but much to do with its visual effects, cinematography and slam bang editing. This is a treat which you should not miss.

Pure Genius
17 February 1999
The most hardened criminals in the world fear no one... except Keyser Soze. When 27 dead bodies are found in Long Beach Harbor with only one dying witness that utters the name Keyser Soze, the U.S. Customs Agent Daniel Kujan (Chazz Palminteri) has got to find the dreaded killer, but only one guy has the clues Verbal Kint (Kevin Spacey). A small-time crook, Verbal tells Kujan an incredible story of the job of their lives with and Keyser Soze at their backs. But somehow their job of a lifetime did not turn out as they expected and soon the five men, Keaton (Gabriel Byrne), McManus (Stephen Baldwin), Hockney (Kevin Pollak), Fenster (Benicio Del Toro), and Kint himself have to ask themselves: Who is Keyser Soze?

The plot and characters in the film are priceless. The amount of great actors in this movie is astounding, not to mention a great story with a surprising and impossible to guess ending. Kevin Spacey is the best of the bunch and flawless in his role as Verbal Kint and the extras are are also great. The movie continually startles with originality and dynamic sequences and make this a thrilling film. Director Bryan Singer and screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie (Both men worked on Public Access, winner of the 1993 Grand Jury Prize at Sundance) team up well with cinematographer Howard Cummings to create a brilliant and timeless crime story that should eventually be considered a classic of the genre.

The Siege (1998)
fine political drama but some thrills would not hurt
10 February 1999
The siege is a political drama about terrorist attacks in America. It all starts after the U.S. military covertly kidnaps an Arabian terrorist in a Middle Eastern desert. Anthony Hubbard (Denzel Washington), the head of the joint FBI/NYPD terrorism task force, along with partner Frank Haddad (Tony Shalhoub), immediately step into action. When Hubbard learns that Elise Kraft (Annette Bening), a CIA operative, is snooping around a bus destroyed in a recent attack, her presence immediately arouses his suspicions. Knowing that she's out of her jurisdiction, Hubbard detains her, but soon realises her knowledge of American/Arab relations will prove helpful since the terrorists appear to be part of some militant Arab group. As more terrorist attacks occur the US President declares a State of Emergency and orders the decorated and honoured General William Deveraux (Bruce Willis) to declare a state of Martial Law on New York City, seal it off and squeeze it until the terrorists are caught. Soon suspected citizens are thrown into stadiums, armed soldiers are marching down every street, and General Deveraux seems to have his own personal agenda which the two agents find frightening. Who is more dangerous, the people who threaten our freedom or those trying to enforce it? And where will the line between the rights of the individual and the best interests of the State be drawn. I did not suspect a fast action thriller but I did expect some thrills so I was disappointed because this is a political drama not the political thriller I was hoping for. Denzel Washington (He Got Game, Fallen) is as good as ever and delivers a solid take on his character. Annette Bening (The American President, Bugsy) is all so great in her role as some superwoman. But Bruce Willis (Armageddon, the Die Hard films), is good in the role of William Deveraux and delivers what's expected from him but is not much in the spot light and should have been used some more. Supporting performances, including that from Tony Shalhoub (Big Night, TV's Wings) that slips in the jokes which are thankfully well timed are also decent. While clearly not a bad film by any means, it does not tell the compelling story to well and is a bit boring from time to time.

One of the new classics, bound for an Oscar
9 February 1999
Jim Carrey wowed critics and audiences alike as unwitting Truman Burbank in this marvel, superbly shot by director Peter Weir, about a man whose life is a nonstop TV show produced, directed and created by Christof and wonderfully played by Ed Harris. Jim Carrey plays Truman Burbank, an insurance salesman in a small town called Seaview.

This movie is the most original and interesting concept in a long time. There's no annoying face-pulling, no rear-related jokes and no 'over-the top' antics at all. The Truman Show isn't even a comedy, more a drama with some comedic elements. Most of the film is shown from the same viewpoint as a person watching the TV show would see. Details of his life are shown in flashbacks of previous 'episodes' and some 'real life' views of people watching Truman.

With a great performance by Carrey, a superbly witty screenplay from Niccol, and another fabulous directorial effort from Weir, who manages to perfectly balance big laughs with more subtle humor and a few touching moments The Truman Show is a cinematic treat as tasty as anything you'll find at the concession stand.

The Jackal (1997)
4/10
Could be better, could be worse
7 February 1999
A ruthless assassin has been hired to eliminate someone at the very top of the U.S. government. Constantly changing his identity and location, he is known only as the Jackal. Everything about this hit man is a secret. Aware of the Jackal's presence but uncertain of his purpose, the FBI's Deputy Director faces the biggest challenge of his career. In order to track down this cold-blooded killer, he and a by-the-book Russian intelligence officer enlist the aid of an imprisoned Irish terrorist. These unlikely allies enter a global race against the clock to stop the mysterious mercenary before he can complete his assignment. If you are looking for a non-stop action movie like Die Hard, then The Jackal is not your movie. It´s a slow spy thriller with many cool gadgets and weapons. Richard Gere does a good job playing an impassioned terrorist who is helping the FBI for a deeper cause than just freedom. And Willis puts forth a good effort as the Jackal. OK film but nothing more.

The Game (1997)
7/10
Impressive movie
5 February 1999
Warning: Spoilers
Nicholas Van Orton, a successful businessman lives a good life until an unexpected birthday gift from his brother destroys it all. Nicholas has been enrolled in a game - "a profound life experience" that begins quietly but soon erupts in a rush of devastating events. Van Orton has to win this deadly game or lose control of everything in his life. And this time money and power are meaningless. This is a suspense/thriller, that does manage to hold one's attention. The film stars Michael Douglas and Sean Penn. Deborah Kara Unger (David Cronenberg's "Crash") turns in a fine supporting roll as well. Davd Fincher, director of Seven and Aliens 3, continues to set high standards for motion picture making. This lastest entree of Fincher's does not lose a beat in delivering the maximum impact of the story. This movie will get into your head. It will keep you guessing the whole time. If you don't give this movie a chance you'll never know what you missed.

Event Horizon (1997)
7/10
It´s the Shining in space
2 February 1999
It's the year 2047 and the "Event Horizon," a ship designed to bend the space time continuum, has been found after being lost for seven years. A rescue ship, the "Lewis & Clark," helmed by Captain Joe Miller(Laurence Fishburne) and his elite crew and the lost ship's designer (Sam Neill). Their mission: find and salvage the state-of-the-art spacecraft. What they find is state-of-the-art interstellar terror. What they must salvage are their own lives, because someone or something is ready to ensnare them in a new dimension of unimaginable fear. This is a scary psychological thriller and one of the few Sci-Fi movies in the last 10 years to actually almost live up to its hopes. For those of you who think that "Scream" and other recent horror films are frightening, take my word for it, go see this movie and see what scary really is. Masterfully balancing sci-fi, horror and action, "Event Horizon" is a superbly made film that feels just like a thrilling amusement park ride. With as many jump scenes as a roller coaster has hills, this film elicits the same visceral response. The film also boasts a great cast with Neill delivering a fine, increasingly deranged role and Fishburne making up for his last action role in the "OK" film Fled here, he strongly commands the screen and proves to be a superb action figure. Although some plot elements are never fully explored such as what's behind the "evil" control, and what the deeper back stories are for the characters personal visions/encounters the mystery of these elements only adds to the film's overall uneasy atmosphere. While this is an extremely thrilling, scary film, it's also extremely bloody and hard to watch at some times but that only makes it a better horror film and the best scifi/horror mix for about ten to fifteen years.

An action/thriller picture with real drama
26 January 1999
Danny Roman (SAMUEL L. JACKSON) is the best hostage negotiator on the Chicago police force and one day is framed for embezzlement and murder. Newly married and unjustly faced with prison, Roman turns hostage-taker to smoke out the guilty ones. Squaring off against him is respected, methodical negotiator Chris Sabian (Kevin Spacey). Under siege and racing the clock, the two lock in a deadly battle of wits. As Beck and his team move into position around Danny's 20th floor barricade and the FBI arrives ready to take over the operation, Sabian races against time to diffuse the potentially explosive situation before Danny and his hostages are injured or possibly killed. The performances is spectacular I've always thoroughly enjoyed Samuel L. Jackson's performances ("Pulp Fiction," "Die Hard With A Vengeance") and while this isn't his best film to date, it's still quite good simply because of the actors behind it. Jackson always manages to easily portray bottled intensity that's ready to pop that look he can get in his eyes is a killer and such a characteristic perfectly fits this character. And than it´s Kevin Spacey ("The Usual Suspects," "L.A. Confidential") easily slips into his character and is completely believable in his role. Audiences always love characters who are completely in control, and Spacey makes the audience believe he's the only man for the job. With compelling performances, a mostly decent script and superb suspense inducing direction by F. Gary Gray make this a good movie to watch.

Ronin (1998)
Well written, Great cast, and unparalleled car chase scenes
24 January 1999
Deirdre (Natascha McElhone) is a mysterious Irish woman who has assembled an international group of covert operatives in Paris for a special mission. Joining Americans Sam (Robert De Niro), the most experienced of the bunch, and Larry (Skipp Sudduth), the designated driver, Vincent (Jean Reno), the French coordinator, Gregor (Stellan Skarsgard), the Eastern Bloc electronics specialist, and Spence (Sean Bean), the English weapons specialist. Other than Deirdre, none of the team members know who's hired them, the motives of the others, or the exact details of the mission, other than that they're to ambush a multi-car caravan and steal a coveted briefcase that's being heavily guarded. After staking out their prey and establishing their plan in Nice, the group strikes and retrieves the briefcase, but things immediately go wrong. One of the group flees with the valuable item, and the chase begins. As allegiances change at the drop of a hat, the team members realize they can trust no one. As the members attempt to retrieve the coveted case and its unknown contents, they discover that more operatives, including Russian businessman Mikhi (Feodor Atkine) and another mysterious fellow, Seamus (Jonathan Pryce), also want the briefcase and will kill anyone in their way. Director John Frankenheimer , who's delivered such great films as "The Manchurian Candidate" and "Birdman of Alcatraz." Of course, he also brought us 1996's remake of "The Island of Dr. Moreau," so no one's perfect, does his part well in Ronin. The action sequences certainly make the film easy to watch, but not any easier to follow. With the numerous villains, their plans, and the switching of allegiances being handled in somewhat of a muddled fashion, the end result often leaves the viewer pondering exactly what's occurring. The film features a superb cast, and the great Robert De Niro is obviously the main draw. Having a track record of many tremendous and famous performances in the past ("Raging Bull," "Taxi Driver," and on and on), it's enjoyable to watch him command the screen and easily hold our attention while we wait for something to happen. French actor Jean Reno ("Mission: Impossible," "The Professional") always a perfect character actor for films such as this is as good as ever, while Stellan Skarsgard ("Good Will Hunting," "Breaking the Waves") and the always radiant Natascha McElhone ("The Truman Show," "Surviving Picasso") also deliver good performances. My only disappointment with the cast involves Sean Bean ("Patriot Games," "Goldeneye"), not due to a bad performance, but because he prematurely leaves the story and his thespian volatile presence is missed, although there are plenty of "villains" to go around. Decent film thad´s well worth watching for two hours.

Blade (1998)
Above Average
4 January 1999
Wesley Snipes stars as the tortured soul, Blade possessing powers greater than any man or creature of the night. Blade sharpens his lethal skills under the guidance of a professional vampire hunter. When the bloodthirsty Immortals' lord, Deacon Frost, declares war on the human race, Blade is humanity's last hope for survival. It´s a comic/action/horror/thriller/sci-fi movie and it´s captivating, furious and fast. Blade is known as The Daywalker because he can walk in the sunlight but is thirst for blood. Wesley Snipes is excellent as blade and Steven Dorff is OK as the evil Frost bud Kris Kristofferson does not fit in as Abraham Whistler. I did not like Stephen Norrington direction and the blood and gore is enough to fill several movies. The film is a lot like Robert Rodriguez's From Dusk Till Dawn so if you liked it you´ll love this one. I thought is was good and it made a great DVD.

A smart action-packed thriller
23 December 1998
The BIG action film producer Jerry Bruckheimer and veteran director Tony Scott have made the conspiracy thriller Enemy of the State starring WILL SMITH as Robert Clayton Dean a DC-based labor lawyer who finds his life turned upside down when he is given a tape(secretly) of the murder of a congressman by Thomas Reynolds (JON VOIGHT) and his small hit squad. When Reynolds discover that the murder was taped he sends his thugs to go after Robert. In the process, they destroy his life by having him lose his job, his credit, and his wife, Carla (REGINA KING), who worries when she receives pictures of him and his former girlfriend and lover from a recent affair, together. As Dean goes to her for help he finds Brill playd by GENE HACKMAN who is an angry, ex-NSA agent thad reluctantly helps him. Audiences seem to like plots where an everyday person gets caught up in extraordinary circumstances. From Cary Grant in the Alfred Hitchcok hit "North By Northwest" and on of Harrison Fords best "The Fugitive," to John Travolta in "Blow Out," and Robert Redford headlining "Three Days of the Condor,". Jon Voight has been playing the villain in his recent movies like in The Rainmaker,Mission: Impossible and Anaconda and he does a good job in Enemy of the State but Gene Hackman is better as the ex-covert operative and only possible salvation for our bewildered hero. This is a great thrillir and another winner for Bruckheimer,Scott,Smith,Hackman,Voight.......

great spy film
5 December 1998
Tom Cruise stars as Ethan Hunt, a secret agent framed for the deaths of his espionage team. Fleeing from government assassins, breaking into the CIA's most impenetrable vault, clinging to the roof of a speeding bullet train, Hunt races like a burning fuse to stay one step ahead of his pursuers and draw one step closer to discovering the shocking truth. Based on the hit television show, Mission Impossible assembles an all-star cast in this great thriller and director by Brian DePalma is an expert at setting up brilliantly conceived set pieces such as the three in MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE.

Great movie experience
3 December 1998
The original Zorro, Don Diego de la Vega, is captured and imprisoned just as Spain concedes California to Santa Anna. 20 years go by and his mortal enemy, Don Rafael Montero, returns to California with a plan to become wealthy at the expense of the peasants. Anthony Hopkins hands over the mask to a new, "vigorous" Zorro, Antonio Banderas, while Catherine Zeta-Jones simply steals the show with her beauty. Of course she puts in a great performance (even does her own sword fight) but it's tremendously difficult to take in anything other than her breathtaking looks! Directed by Martin Cambell (Goldeneye), Zorro combines expertly choreographed swordsmanship, explosions, horseback maneuvers, and fight scenes, with a deft touch of romance. Although I was skeptical of this movie at first I must say that it is very entertaining. It´s almost pure entertainment. Both Hopkins and Banderas play Zorro brilliantly, as they both seem meant for the role. The movie contains stunts and action galore and many sword fights as well as plenty of comedy. Great flick!!

Great movie that lived up to my expectations
29 November 1998
In this fourth installment of the popular series, L.A. detectives Martin Riggs (MEL GIBSON) and Roger Murtaugh (DANNY GLOVER) are getting older and have more things on their minds than just police work. Murtaugh is about to become a grandfather courtesy of his daughter who's secretly (only to her dad) married to another cop, while Riggs is about to become a father with Internal Affairs inspector Lorna Cole (RENE RUSSO), although they're not married. With the assistance of their comic sidekick and former money launderer turned private eye, Leo Getz (JOE PESCI) and a new detective, Lee Butters (CHRIS ROCK) who's curiously over friendly to Murtaugh, the two old partners discover that a crooked local businessman, Uncle Benny (KIM CHAN), is involved in illegally moving immigrants into the country as slave labor. When they discover that a member of the Asian Triad, Wah Sing Ku (JET LI), is also involved, they start to put the heat on the bad guys. If you enjoyed any or all of the previous entries in this long running series you'll love this one. The addition of comic Chris Rock (TV's "Saturday Night Live") to the cast works quite well and adds a much needed additional layer of fresh humor to the proceedings. Given that talent of Richard Donner occasionally revs up the action to a point nearing that of legendary Hong Kong director John Woo (The Killer, Face/Off), including several fight sequences between Li and Gibson and Glover that were clearly the favorites with our audience. While some (actually many) of them push that credibility factor to the limits, the film still manages to get away with it. Lethal Weapon 4 is a big, loud, and often viciously violent experience that can't be accused of holding anything back.

Jaws (1975)
Steven Spielberg at his best
28 November 1998
Every summer thousands of visitors go to a small beach-side town of Amity to get some rest and relaxation in the sun and sand. But one summer, the summer of '75 a new visitor comes to the bech an enormous man-eating great white shark. Brody (ROY SCHEIDER) a former big city cop and now the local sheriff, finds the remains of a college girl and orders the beaches closed. Mayor Vaughan (MURRAY HAMILTON) and other city officials, however, rescind that order for fear of what it will do to the town's tourism. Brody and his wife Ellen (LORRAINE GARY) don't think that was the right thing to do and worry about the safety of their two boys. After several more people are killed by the shark, though, Brody closes the beaches and brings in Hooper (RICHARD DREYFUSS), an oceanographic expert, to help find the shark. In the end, however, they need Quint (ROBERT SHAW), the local, grizzled "old man of the sea" to hunt down and kill the shark. The three men then head out into open waters and bait, and wait, for their encounter with the dangerous shark. One of the great box-office hits of all time is also one of the best horror films in the last few decades. Spielberg's classic shark story, based on Peter Benchley's novel, kept millions out of the water during the summer of '75. Roy Scheider, Richard Dreyfuss and the great Robert Shaw go shark hunting off the New England coast and find Melvillian adventure. A classic combination of suspense, effects, editing, cinematography, score and bristling characterizations. The movie that was supposed to be 1975's biggest flop, but instead it has become a classic thriller. This film briefly turned all of those actors into big stars, and for the next few years they headlined many of biggest released movies. From John Williams unforgettable score to Spielberg's unmatched directorial talent, Jaws is grand entertainment.

Die Hard (1988)
The movie that made its genre
26 November 1998
In this non-stop action classic which ushered in a new genre of action-thrillers, Bruce Willis stars as New York City cop John McClane, Off-duty, and visiting his wife in L.A., McClane find himself back in the line of fire when a group of terrorists seize an office building, trapping him, his estranged wife (Bonnie Bedelia) and dozens of party-goers insider. As hostages are rounded up, McClane slips away and, armed only with his wits , launches his own one-man war. The terrorists want to steal 360 million dollars from the company and kill all the hostages so it is up to McClane to stop them. Hollywood has been pumping out action thrillers for ever but this brash, clever picture caught the attention of audiences after years of moribund product from the likes of Schwarzenegger and Stallone. The action in Die Hard has to be seen. It is some incredible action and director John McTiernan shows that he can shoot action sequences well. There is the famous scene with Willis jumping off the top of the building with an explosion behind him. But, if you thought that was exciting wait to you see how McTiernan continues that sequence and gets you to the edge of your seat. There are other well set-up action sequences in Die Hard that have this stand out quality. After Die Hard Bruce Willis became a hero and has been saving the world since.

This is so much fun it's freaky
24 November 1998
In the sleepy town of Fairwater, a monstrous evil has awakened...an evil so powerful, its reach extends beyond the grave. For Frank Bannister (Michael J. Fox), death is a great way to make a living: ridding haunted houses of their unwelcome "guests." But he's in cahoots with the very ghosts he promises to evict! It's the perfect scam...until Frank finds himself at the center of a dark mystery. A diabolical spirit is on a murderous rampage, and the whole town believes Frank is behind it. But Bannister knows that it's "Death" who's killing everyone since he, and only he, can see what's really happening. He befriends a newcomer, Lucy Lynskey (TRINI ALVARADO) after her husband Ray (PETER DOBSON) becomes one of the victims. As Bannister and Lucy dig for answers, they discover that Fairwater had a mass murderer, Johnny Bartlett (JAKE BUSEY) who was executed for killing twelve people. His accomplice, Patricia Bradley (DEE WALLACE-STONE) had been locked up for years, and now lives with her mother. As more and more people die, special FBI agent Dammers (JEFFREY COMBS) shows up and he, Bannister and Lucy attempt to discover who or what is behind the deaths and how to stop them. This is a great film directed by Peter Jackson and one of his greater works. The Frighteners isn't as gory and bloody as his other films like Dead Alive(Aka Braindead) were they pumped 3-5 gallons of blood per. sec. in the end but. This film is full of dark humor and I must say that it is one of the best horror movies I have seen in a long time and the effects are great. So we've got great actors great director great effects and one great movie.highly recommended!!

Lethal Weapon (1987)
Funny and fast
18 November 1998
Martin Riggs (Mel Gibson) is no ordinary cop. He's a Mad Max gone maniacal, a man whose killing expertise and suicidal recklessness make him a Lethal Weapon to anyone he works against. Or with. Roger Murtaugh (Danny Glover) is an easy-going homicide detective with a loving family, a big house and a pension he doesn't want to lose. Imagine Murtaugh's shock when he learns his new partner is a guy with nothing left to lose: wild-eyed, burnt-out Martin Riggs. Lethal Weapon is the thrill-packed story of two Vietnam-vets-turned-cops who have just one other thing in common: both hate to work with partners. But their partnership becomes the key to survival when a routine murder investigation leads to all-out, take-no-prisoners, martial-arts-and-machine-guns war with an international heroin ring.

Cool action flick (not the best)
17 November 1998
After he betrays Mr. Wei, the ruthless crime boss who hired him to avenge his son's death, professional killer John Lee (Chow yun-fat) goes on the run. Enlisting the aid of beautiful document forger Meg Coburn (Sorvino), Lee attempts to return to his family in China before they are victimized by his betrayal. But Wei's army of "replacement killers" is hot on his trail, and now both he and Meg are targets of their impressive firepower. With both sides fully armed and determined to fight to the death, an ultra-violent shoot-out breaks out when they finally face off against each other. International superstar CHOW YUN-FAT(John Woo´s Hard-Boiled & The Killer) makes his Hollywood debut with Oscar winner MIRA SORVINO(1995 best supporting actress for Mighty Aphrodite) in THE REPLACEMENT KILLERS, fierce and explosive action thriller from director ANTOINE FUQUA(Coolio´s gangsters paradise video). First off, the film is straight action and doesn't try for much in the way of character development or plot it is not trying to pretend to be more than it is. What it is is a good, old fashioned shoot em up action picture in the style of John Woo (who produced). This is not as good as Chow Yun-Fat´s The Killer, A Better Tomorrow and Hard-Boiled(all movies directed by John Woo) but it´s a good fast-paced, action-packed movie.

Cliffhanger (1993)
Excellent film
17 November 1998
Sylvester Stallone plays Gabe Walker who hasn't recovered from a terrible climbing accident, so when he's asked to search for a group, missing in the Rockies, he is initially reluctant. Adding to this the fact he has to work with an old friend, who now hates him (his friend´s girlfriend died in the climbing accident). Gabe is not a happy man. Unknown to Gabe and his 'friend', the group they are out to rescue are armed and dangerous. The group needs a local expert to locate and recover millions of stolen money. This film has a great deal of suspense and the action is great on the dizzying, snow-covered cliffs. And John Lithgow is a great villain. Renny Harlin came to this project with one other action\thriller under his belt - DIE HARD 2, and he knows how to serve up the action. Since CLIFFHANGER, he has made a couple others - THE LONG KISS GOODNIGHT, and last year's disastrous CUTTHROAT ISLAND. He knows how to devise exciting, and original predicaments for his heroes to struggle out of. What CLIFFHANGER is missing in suspense and snappy dialogue, it almost makes up for with pyrotechnics and amazing stunt work. So this is a good action flick that provides a large dose of pyrotechnics and amazing stunt work. If it's action you want - it's action you'll get. Great film.

Adam Sandler is a God
14 November 1998
It's 1985 and Robbie Hart (Adam Sandler) is the ultimate master of ceremonies...until he is left at the altar at his own wedding. Devastated, he becomes a newlywed's worst nightmare--an entertainer who can do nothing but destroy other people's weddings. It's not until he meets a warm-hearted waitress named Julia (Drew Barrymore) that he starts to pick up the pieces of his heart. The only problem is Julia's about to have a wedding of her own and unless Robbie can pull off the performance of a lifetime, the girl of his dreams will be gone forever. The Wedding Singer at times is exhaustingly funny but different from Adam Sandler's other works. It is funny, sad, and heartwarming and a great movie. Sandler was excellent and Drew Berrymore has never been better and the 80's music is awesome.

Excellent movie

This one won't fade away
13 November 1998
Two hundred and fifty years in the future, life as we know it is threatened by the arrival of Evil. Only the fifth element (played by Milla Jovovich) can stop the Evil from extinguishing life, as it tries to do every five thousand years. She is helped by ex-soldier, current-cab-driver, Corben Dallas (played by Bruce Willis), who is, in turn, helped by Prince/Arsenio clone, Ruby Rohd. Unfortunately, Evil is being assisted by Mr. Zorg (Gary Oldman), who seeks to profit from the chaos that Evil will bring, and his alien Mercenaries. The Fifth Element should be seen by all sci-fi film enthusiasts. It is absolutely loaded with an incredible jumble of eye candy. One amazing spectacle after another leaps onto the screen to thrill us. It is laced with very rich imagery, and demands repeated viewing to take in all the details thanks to great direction by French director Luc Besson. The story is a disaster and I had to watch this film 2 times to appreciate it, and now I love it. Bruce Willis, Gary Oldman and Milla Jovovich are superb in their acting and there are only few problems with the film thatare not importent.

classics comedy

Stars Robin Williams in the role he was born to play: the irreverent, non-conformist deejay Adrian Cronauer. Imported by the Army for an early a.m. radio show, Cronauer blasts the formerly staid, sanitized airwaves with a constant barrage of rapid-fire humor and the hottest hits from back home.. The GI's love his style but the commanders aren't so thrilled with his comedy. Sidesplitting comic bombshells and studded with hot '60's hits, the film depicts Cronauer's raucous Saigon adventures amid a world gone mad. Williams is brilliant in his portrayal of Adrian as this seems like the part he was meant to play with his quick instincts and non-stop humor. Barry Levinson has done few good films and this is one of them. This is a mix of comedy, drama and war and is a superb entertainment and a classic comedy hit.
