Horror Movie Suggestions (for when you have nothing else to do~)

by Ravenlich | created - 08 Oct 2011 | updated - 20 Aug 2014 | Public

Watch them if you're bored or something, left comments on each one. =) Not going to list all the ones I've seen (that would be too many) but a few. I also need to rewatch some films and finally watch ones I should've seen ages ago but haven't gotten round to seeing, so I'll also be adding more on later!

1. A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)

R | 91 min | Horror

76 Metascore

Teenager Nancy Thompson must uncover the dark truth concealed by her parents after she and her friends become targets of the spirit of a serial killer with a bladed glove in their dreams, in which if they die, it kills them in real life.

Director: Wes Craven | Stars: Heather Langenkamp, Johnny Depp, Robert Englund, John Saxon

Votes: 262,628 | Gross: $25.50M

If you're smaller then avoid watching this at night, but when you're a little older and you learn to love Robert Englund and Freddy Krueger both, then you won't be so afraid. This film is pretty much made of ~*~WIN~*~.

2. Alien (1979)

R | 117 min | Horror, Sci-Fi

89 Metascore

The crew of a commercial spacecraft encounters a deadly lifeform after investigating a mysterious transmission of unknown origin.

Director: Ridley Scott | Stars: Sigourney Weaver, Tom Skerritt, John Hurt, Veronica Cartwright

Votes: 951,423 | Gross: $78.90M

This film never gets old. I'm serious, if you want to see merciless aliens kill random people and badass mofo facehugging things then go see it! =D

3. Friday the 13th (1980)

R | 95 min | Horror, Mystery, Thriller

22 Metascore

A group of teenage camp counselors attempt to re-open an abandoned summer camp with a tragic past, but they are stalked by a mysterious, relentless killer.

Director: Sean S. Cunningham | Stars: Betsy Palmer, Adrienne King, Jeannine Taylor, Robbi Morgan

Votes: 157,517 | Gross: $39.75M

Slasher film, if you don't like them then bad luck, but this franchise will always be one of my favourites and even though this film doesn't have Jason as the killer, it's still pretty good.

4. Trick 'r Treat (2007)

R | 82 min | Comedy, Horror

Five interwoven stories that occur on Halloween: an everyday high school principal has a secret life as a serial killer; a college virgin might have just met the guy for her; a group of teenagers pull a mean prank; a woman who loathes the night has to contend with her holiday-obsessed husband; and a mean old man meets his match with a demonic, supernatural trick-or-treater.

Director: Michael Dougherty | Stars: Anna Paquin, Brian Cox, Dylan Baker, Rochelle Aytes

Votes: 104,648

YEAH! I advise you watch this on Halloween, just because it's only right to do so. ;) Anyway, the film is actually executed pretty well (as are the people), and you'll find out everything in it fits together from beginning to end.

5. Dawn of the Dead (2004)

R | 101 min | Action, Horror

59 Metascore

A nurse, a policeman, a young married couple, a salesman and other survivors of a worldwide plague that is producing aggressive, flesh-eating zombies, take refuge in a mega Midwestern shopping mall.

Director: Zack Snyder | Stars: Sarah Polley, Ving Rhames, Mekhi Phifer, Jake Weber

Votes: 272,573 | Gross: $59.02M

One of the better zombie movies out there. I hadn't known that Zack Snyder (who directed Watchmen) was the director of this film until I looked it up, to my satisfied surprise.

6. I Am Legend (2007)

PG-13 | 101 min | Action, Drama, Horror

65 Metascore

Years after a plague kills most of humanity and transforms the rest into monsters, the sole survivor in New York City struggles valiantly to find a cure.

Director: Francis Lawrence | Stars: Will Smith, Alice Braga, Charlie Tahan, Salli Richardson-Whitfield

Votes: 814,589 | Gross: $256.39M

Based on a novel, I Am Legend is a not-so-traditional vampire film, taking a zombie-like plot (in the sense that a virus has turned people into infected, psychotic killers with large mouths). If you didn't like the theatrical ending so much, there's an alternate ending which is apparently closer to the source material, so Google it or something if you want to find out about it. Even if you don't like these types of movies, Will Smith is in it, so watch it anyway. >D

7. Black Death (2010)

R | 102 min | Action, Drama, History

71 Metascore

Set during the time of the first outbreak of bubonic plague in England, a young monk is given the task of learning the truth about reports of people being brought back to life in a small village.

Director: Christopher Smith | Stars: Eddie Redmayne, Sean Bean, Carice van Houten, Kimberley Nixon

Votes: 51,254 | Gross: $0.02M

Unlike a lot of horrors, this film has characters you get to know before they get killed off, meaning you might actually care when someone dies. The ending isn't so amazing but it's decent, and the film itself isn't REALLY a slasher, though it does have its gory moments. Honestly, if you want a different kind of horror, consider giving this a watch. All in all, this is a rather underrated film.

8. Predator (1987)

R | 107 min | Action, Adventure, Horror

47 Metascore

A team of commandos on a mission in a Central American jungle find themselves hunted by an extraterrestrial warrior.

Director: John McTiernan | Stars: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Carl Weathers, Kevin Peter Hall, Elpidia Carrillo

Votes: 455,087 | Gross: $59.74M

More aliens! No, no, not xenomorphs. These aliens are high-tech, intelligible warriors who more closely resemble humans than xenomorphs ever will. Well, I won't give much away but I will say that this is an excellent film worth watching.

9. Shaun of the Dead (2004)

R | 99 min | Comedy, Horror

76 Metascore

The uneventful, aimless lives of a London electronics salesman and his layabout roommate are disrupted by the zombie apocalypse.

Director: Edgar Wright | Stars: Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Kate Ashfield, Lucy Davis

Votes: 594,213 | Gross: $13.54M

How I love this movie, mmm. =) It's a comedy film, but doesn't overdo it, and the comedy actually works! It's also quite emotional at times and the characters are awesome (except for one particular annoying-ass guy with glasses). How's about it, ey? If that doesn't convince you, Simon Pegg will, because that's right, he's in it.

10. Severance (2006)

R | 96 min | Comedy, Horror

62 Metascore

During a team-building retreat in the mountains a group of sales representatives are hunted down one by one.

Director: Christopher Smith | Stars: Danny Dyer, Laura Harris, Tim McInnerny, Toby Stephens

Votes: 40,697 | Gross: $0.14M

Another film directed by Christopher Smith is THIS ONE, and if you hadn't known earlier, he's the one who directed Black Death. O that's right, you remember now? Anyway, this one's a real slasher, with comedic elements cleverly sewn into it to create an entertaining film. Love it or hate it, I don't really care.

11. Saw (2004)

R | 103 min | Horror, Mystery, Thriller

46 Metascore

Two strangers awaken in a room with no recollection of how they got there, and soon discover they're pawns in a deadly game perpetrated by a notorious serial killer.

Director: James Wan | Stars: Cary Elwes, Leigh Whannell, Danny Glover, Ken Leung

Votes: 466,927 | Gross: $56.00M

You've heard of Saw, right? Yeah, yeah you have. Well, now's the time to actually see it if you haven't already. No, really. Go.

12. Hostel (2005)

R | 94 min | Horror

55 Metascore

Three backpackers head to a Slovak city that promises to meet their hedonistic expectations, with no idea of the hell that awaits them.

Director: Eli Roth | Stars: Jay Hernandez, Derek Richardson, Eythor Gudjonsson, Barbara Nedeljakova

Votes: 191,044 | Gross: $47.33M

Ahhh, Hostel. Yep, hostel scared the *beep* out of me when I was 11 (or 12) and has scarred me for life. It was then that I vowed I'd never go to Slovakia. In fact, this is one of only two films that has actually made me look away (I stumbled off to bed to escape), EVER. I haven't seen it since the first time, maybe sometime soon I'll watch it again and see if anything has changed for me since then. Maybe I overreacted then? I don't know. Anyway, the plot may not be as good as Saw, but if you like seeing gore, then alright, you will probably like it.

13. The Grudge (2004)

PG-13 | 91 min | Horror, Mystery, Thriller

49 Metascore

An American nurse living and working in Tokyo is exposed to a mysterious supernatural curse, one that locks a person in a powerful rage before claiming their life and spreading to another victim.

Director: Takashi Shimizu | Stars: Sarah Michelle Gellar, Jason Behr, Clea DuVall, William Mapother

Votes: 150,898 | Gross: $110.36M

Ooahahahahahaha*cry*haha. The Grudge is the second film that has scarred me for life. Damn it, there's just something about it that scares the hell out of me. I dunno, creepy-sounding/looking ghosts just don't tickle my fancy.

14. Planet Terror (2007)

R | 105 min | Action, Comedy, Horror

After an experimental bio-weapon is released, turning thousands into zombie-like creatures, it's up to a rag-tag group of survivors to stop the infected and those behind its release.

Director: Robert Rodriguez | Stars: Rose McGowan, Freddy Rodríguez, Josh Brolin, Marley Shelton

Votes: 223,333

Strange film... As in, very strange. Strange but entertaining. That is all.

15. Deep Blue Sea (1999)

R | 105 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

54 Metascore

Searching for a cure to Alzheimer's disease, a group of scientists on an isolated research facility become the prey, as a trio of intelligent sharks fight back.

Director: Renny Harlin | Stars: Thomas Jane, Saffron Burrows, Samuel L. Jackson, Jacqueline McKenzie

Votes: 142,604 | Gross: $73.65M

I loved the part where the shark jumps out of the water and grabs - Ok ok, I won't spoil it. Alternative to Jaws.

16. Paranormal Activity (2007)

R | 86 min | Horror, Mystery

68 Metascore

After moving into a suburban home, a couple becomes increasingly disturbed by a nightly demonic presence.

Director: Oren Peli | Stars: Katie Featherston, Micah Sloat, Mark Fredrichs, Amber Armstrong

Votes: 256,275 | Gross: $107.92M

This is NOT on this list because it's good. NOT. GOOD. In fact, I'm only putting it on this list if you want to torture yourself with this piece of crap. Like, seriously, torture yourself. It's utterly boring, the acting was terrible and I genuinely fell asleep for the first time ever while watching a movie.

17. Dead Silence (2007)

R | 89 min | Horror, Mystery, Thriller

34 Metascore

After his wife meets a grisly end, Jamie Ashen returns to his hometown of Ravens Fair to find answers. His investigation leads him to the ghost of a ventriloquist named Mary Shaw who seems to have ties to his entire family tree

Director: James Wan | Stars: Ryan Kwanten, Amber Valletta, Donnie Wahlberg, Michael Fairman

Votes: 101,888 | Gross: $16.81M

This is a rather dark film, as in it has a dark feeling throughout the whole this. Usually that would be annoying but it's actually a pretty good movie, further leading me to hate dolls/puppets etc even more. Beware the stare of Mary Shaw... She had no children, only dolls...

18. Stake Land (2010)

R | 98 min | Drama, Horror, Sci-Fi

66 Metascore

In a world of vampires, an expert vampire hunter and his young protégé travel toward sanctuary.

Director: Jim Mickle | Stars: Connor Paolo, Nick Damici, Kelly McGillis, Gregory Jones

Votes: 44,150 | Gross: $0.02M

What's this? A vampire movie with an attempt at character development...which succeeded? Not possible! O yes, it IS possible. Stake Land is a decent film, not the best but it's entertaining with a fair amount of killing and whatnot, and amongst all that, you'll probably only be indignant about one (implied) death.

19. Scream (1996)

R | 111 min | Horror, Mystery

66 Metascore

A year after the murder of her mother, a teenage girl is terrorized by a masked killer who targets her and her friends by using scary movies as part of a deadly game.

Director: Wes Craven | Stars: Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette, Skeet Ulrich

Votes: 388,625 | Gross: $103.05M

I love Scream. I love everything about it. This is a slasher with a plot, and that's always a good thing, right? Yes, that's right. Lock your doors, kiddies!

20. Mirrors (I) (2008)

R | 110 min | Horror, Mystery

35 Metascore

An ex-cop and his family are the target of an evil force that is using mirrors as a gateway into their home.

Director: Alexandre Aja | Stars: Kiefer Sutherland, Paula Patton, Amy Smart, Cameron Boyce

Votes: 113,753 | Gross: $30.69M

Pfft, I hated mirrors before this, and after seeing this, I hated them even more. It's another one of those movies with a permanently-present dark feel to it, but it's entertaining to say the least.

21. Hellraiser (1987)

R | 94 min | Horror, Thriller

56 Metascore

A woman discovers the newly resurrected, partially formed, body of her brother-in-law and lover. She starts killing for him to revitalize his body and escape the demonic beings that are pursuing him after he escaped their underworld.

Director: Clive Barker | Stars: Andrew Robinson, Clare Higgins, Ashley Laurence, Sean Chapman

Votes: 140,599 | Gross: $14.56M

Hellraiser is one hell of a film all right. It's based on a novella - The Hellbound Heart - which you should read beforehand, and truly, it's a wonderful film.

22. 28 Days Later (2002)

R | 113 min | Drama, Horror, Sci-Fi

73 Metascore

Four weeks after a mysterious, incurable virus spreads throughout the UK, a handful of survivors try to find sanctuary.

Director: Danny Boyle | Stars: Cillian Murphy, Naomie Harris, Christopher Eccleston, Alex Palmer

Votes: 446,047 | Gross: $45.06M

Another zombie film has inched its way onto this list. I loved the characters, I loved the...zombies... I loved everything about it. O and if you love Cillian Murphy (Batman Begins, Inception), you get to see him butt-naked. xD

23. 30 Days of Night (2007)

R | 113 min | Action, Horror, Thriller

53 Metascore

After an Alaskan town is plunged into darkness for a month, it is attacked by a bloodthirsty gang of vampires.

Director: David Slade | Stars: Josh Hartnett, Melissa George, Danny Huston, Ben Foster

Votes: 189,493 | Gross: $39.57M

As far as I know this is based on a comic book series. Anyway, it's a vampire film, and no, no, the vampires don't fall in love with annoying, weird girls like Bella Swan. They're vicious. That's always a good thing ahaha.

24. Blade II (2002)

R | 117 min | Action, Horror, Sci-Fi

52 Metascore

Blade forms an uneasy alliance with the vampire council in order to combat the Reapers, who are feeding on vampires.

Director: Guillermo del Toro | Stars: Wesley Snipes, Kris Kristofferson, Ron Perlman, Leonor Varela

Votes: 234,505 | Gross: $82.35M

Anything by Guillermo del Toro is good, as is this film (rated 6.6?! What!?) which includes weird little vampire menaces called Reapers which somewhat resemble Predators AND Xenomorphs... Stars Ron Perlman and Luke Goss who were in del Toro's second Hellboy film (which was amazing by the way).

25. Insidious (I) (2010)

PG-13 | 103 min | Horror, Mystery, Thriller

52 Metascore

A family looks to prevent evil spirits from trapping their comatose child in a realm called The Further.

Director: James Wan | Stars: Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, Ty Simpkins, Lin Shaye

Votes: 339,143 | Gross: $54.01M

This is an alright-ish film. The first half was excellent but...the second half went down into the gutters and was lost in other crap and litter.

26. Silent Hill (2006)

R | 125 min | Horror, Mystery

31 Metascore

A woman, Rose, goes in search for her adopted daughter within the confines of a strange, desolate town called Silent Hill.

Director: Christophe Gans | Stars: Radha Mitchell, Laurie Holden, Sean Bean, Deborah Kara Unger

Votes: 244,119 | Gross: $46.98M

It truly is a weird movie, Silent Hill, but it's not all awful to be honest. It's based on a game of the same name and it features Pyramid Head, a large, freaky man with an obvious pyramid-like structure which conceals his head and an overly large butcher's knife which he puts to good use. Don't watch it alone at night.

27. Final Destination (2000)

R | 98 min | Horror, Thriller

39 Metascore

After getting a premonition about a plane crash on his school trip, Alex, a student saves a few of his classmates. However, their situation gets complicated when death starts chasing them.

Director: James Wong | Stars: Devon Sawa, Ali Larter, Kerr Smith, Kristen Cloke

Votes: 279,648 | Gross: $53.33M

I really need to catch up on this franchise... Uh but back to the point. After this you'll probably hope to never survive a tragic accident involving a lot of other people in fear that death will follow you and kill you gruesomely.

28. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003)

R | 98 min | Horror

38 Metascore

After picking up a traumatized young hitchhiker, five friends find themselves stalked and hunted by a deformed chainsaw-wielding loon and his family of equally psychopathic killers.

Director: Marcus Nispel | Stars: Jessica Biel, Jonathan Tucker, Andrew Bryniarski, Erica Leerhsen

Votes: 152,423 | Gross: $80.57M

That's right, this is the remake. I didn't like the original...it became boring seeing an annoying screaming idiot run around on screen for half an hour wondering why Leatherface was still chasing her (she was screaming, duh).

Anyway, this, to me, was superior to the original. =) I hate chainsaws though. Like, I HATE them. x_x

29. The Descent (2005)

R | 99 min | Adventure, Horror, Thriller

71 Metascore

A caving expedition goes horribly wrong, as the explorers become trapped and ultimately pursued by a strange breed of predators.

Director: Neil Marshall | Stars: Shauna Macdonald, Natalie Mendoza, Alex Reid, Saskia Mulder

Votes: 247,057 | Gross: $26.02M

Damn them Crawlers, livin' in dem caves, eatin' dem people... This is a GREAT film, and it'll make you think twice about going into some strange cave the next time you feel like doing that.

30. The Cave (2005)

PG-13 | 97 min | Adventure, Horror, Sci-Fi

30 Metascore

Blood-thirsty creatures await a pack of divers who become trapped in an underwater cave network.

Director: Bruce Hunt | Stars: Piper Perabo, Morris Chestnut, Cole Hauser, Eddie Cibrian

Votes: 41,456 | Gross: $15.01M

The Cave is about a group of people who go into a cave which comes alive to eat them all. The cave separates into smaller, living caves which chase the people inside the mother-cave and they all die.

O, you silly things, I'm joking. ^^

It was released the same year as The Descent and is an inferior version of it, also featuring weird creatures inside a (ta da!) cave! There's one massive motherf-cking beasty which I recall is somehow able to fly, swim and scale walls with the grace and beauty of a ballerina shot in the leg. Turns out, every beast in the cave used to be -

31. Amusement (2008)

R | 85 min | Crime, Horror, Mystery

Three women are stalked by a killer with a grudge that extends back to the girls' childhoods.

Director: John Simpson | Stars: Katheryn Winnick, Laura Breckenridge, Jessica Lucas, Keir O'Donnell

Votes: 12,381

This is filled with cliches, but sometimes cliches can be fun! In fact, sometimes they can be amusing. The antagonist in the film is literally psychopathic, with a strange infatuation with a girl who he tries to amuse by showing her some f-cked up shizzle~

32. Zombieland (2009)

R | 88 min | Action, Comedy, Horror

73 Metascore

A shy student trying to reach his family in Ohio, a gun-toting bruiser in search of the last Twinkie and a pair of sisters striving to get to an amusement park join forces in a trek across a zombie-filled America.

Director: Ruben Fleischer | Stars: Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, Woody Harrelson, Abigail Breslin

Votes: 621,641 | Gross: $75.59M

Zombieland, unlike the title suggests, is about... Ah, who am I kidding. It's about zombies, people killing zombies and zombies (attempting) to kill people. It's a decent movie mixed with a bit of humour here and there, but not nearly as hilarious as Shaun of the Dead.

33. A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010)

R | 95 min | Crime, Drama, Horror

35 Metascore

The spectre of a disfigured man haunts the children of the parents who murdered him, stalking and killing them in their dreams.

Director: Samuel Bayer | Stars: Jackie Earle Haley, Rooney Mara, Kyle Gallner, Katie Cassidy

Votes: 107,522 | Gross: $63.08M

You know what? I don't CARE if you hate this. I don't CARE if this is said to be absolutely awful. I LIKE it. So much, in fact, that I will praise it like it's the most important thing in the world. >D I know, it's not as great as the original, and that's definitely true, but it's a decent remake. At first I wasn't sure about Jackie Earle Haley portraying Freddy instead of Robert Englund but then I watched Watchmen and got a taste of what he could do, and promptly went out of my way to see this film to find out that he's spectacular in it. It's also nice to hear Jackie's normal voice in it as well, he's actually kind of adorable LOL. Freddy will always be one of the most legendary characters in my eyes, and Jackie didn't disappoint, neither did the other actors who danced around on screen until they were killed! =D

34. The Hills Have Eyes (2006)

R | 107 min | Horror, Thriller

52 Metascore

A traveling family falls victim to a group of mutated cannibals in a desert far away from civilization.

Director: Alexandre Aja | Stars: Ted Levine, Kathleen Quinlan, Dan Byrd, Emilie de Ravin

Votes: 183,318 | Gross: $41.78M

I need to rewatch this film some time...um...anyway, yet another film that'll probably make you think twice about going into the middle of nowhere for a holiday. Again, this isn't one of the best movies out there but it's a good way to pass the time and be entertained for a while.

35. House on Haunted Hill (1999)

R | 93 min | Horror, Mystery, Thriller

28 Metascore

An amusement park mogul offers a group of diverse people $1,000,000 to spend the night in a haunted house with a horrifying past.

Director: William Malone | Stars: Geoffrey Rush, Famke Janssen, Taye Diggs, Peter Gallagher

Votes: 60,156 | Gross: $40.85M

Yes, because obviously going into a giant haunted asylum for a night is a great idea. Trust me, you won't find me doing that for any amount of money. This film isn't amazing, in fact, it's not really that good at all, but when you're desperate to watch something because you're dying of boredom, you'll realise that it's not SO bad... Features vengeful ghosts and an adopted guy!

36. Darkness Falls (2003)

PG-13 | 86 min | Fantasy, Horror, Mystery

23 Metascore

A vengeful spirit has taken the form of the Tooth Fairy to exact vengeance on the town that lynched her 150 years earlier. Her only opposition is the only child, now grown up, who has survived her before.

Director: Jonathan Liebesman | Stars: Chaney Kley, Emma Caulfield Ford, Antony Burrows, Lee Cormie

Votes: 33,394 | Gross: $32.55M

The tooth faerie never was this scary, huh? I heard that Doug Jones was supposed to be the tooth faerie until the film got a new director or something, and didn't realise that until after watching the film not long ago. The film has its flaws and whatnot, and a few plot holes and questionable scenes but it's really not that bad a movie. Everyone has different opinions so don't take notice of ratings until you've watched it yourself.

37. Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004)

R | 94 min | Action, Horror, Sci-Fi

36 Metascore

Alice wakes up in the Raccoon City hospital after the area has been overrun by zombies, and must now make it out of the city before a nuclear bomb is dropped.

Director: Alexander Witt | Stars: Milla Jovovich, Sienna Guillory, Eric Mabius, Oded Fehr

Votes: 210,014 | Gross: $51.20M

So much hate for this series, but in all honesty I like it. Not only is it filled to the brim with badassery but you have to feel sorry for Nemesis, who is also really cool, even if he is the antagonist for the majority of the film. Blame Umbrella.

38. Resident Evil: Extinction (2007)

R | 94 min | Action, Horror, Sci-Fi

41 Metascore

Survivors of the Raccoon City catastrophe travel across the Nevada desert, hoping to make it to Alaska. Alice joins the caravan and their fight against the evil Umbrella Corp.

Director: Russell Mulcahy | Stars: Milla Jovovich, Ali Larter, Oded Fehr, Iain Glen

Votes: 205,551 | Gross: $50.65M

Yes that's right, another RE film, with crazy desert zombies who want to kill you.

39. Freddy vs. Jason (2003)

R | 97 min | Action, Horror

37 Metascore

Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees return to terrorize the teenagers of Elm Street. Only this time, they're out to get each other, too.

Director: Ronny Yu | Stars: Robert Englund, Ken Kirzinger, Kelly Rowland, Monica Keena

Votes: 127,319 | Gross: $82.62M

Don't hate me cause I like it, we all like different things and really, FvJ isn't bad. It has Freddy, Jason, people dying...what else do you want? <3

40. The Silence of the Lambs (1991)

R | 118 min | Crime, Drama, Thriller

86 Metascore

A young F.B.I. cadet must receive the help of an incarcerated and manipulative cannibal killer to help catch another serial killer, a madman who skins his victims.

Director: Jonathan Demme | Stars: Jodie Foster, Anthony Hopkins, Scott Glenn, Ted Levine

Votes: 1,548,926 | Gross: $130.74M

YES, this movie is epic. Cannibalism...ftw? =o

41. Dead Snow (2009)

Not Rated | 91 min | Comedy, Fantasy, Horror

61 Metascore

A ski vacation turns horrific for a group of medical students, as they find themselves confronted by an unimaginable menace: Nazi zombies.

Director: Tommy Wirkola | Stars: Jeppe Beck Laursen, Charlotte Frogner, Jenny Skavlan, Geir Vegar Hoel

Votes: 70,032 | Gross: $0.04M

I didn't really like the first twenty minutes, but after that it got better, and turned out to be a pretty epic film. It's not in English, so if you watch this, remember to watch with subtitles. =) Who doesn't like nazi zombies?

42. Creep (I) (2004)

R | 85 min | Horror, Mystery, Thriller

Trapped in a London subway station, a woman who's being pursued by a potential attacker heads into the unknown labyrinth of tunnels beneath the city's streets.

Director: Christopher Smith | Stars: Franka Potente, Sean Harris, Vas Blackwood, Ken Campbell

Votes: 31,759

Another one by Christopher Smith. You'd think watching an annoying lady running around a railway station all night would be boring but it isn't! Sadly a good character dies, but never fear, the dog lives on! There are a few things you might wonder about, but it's a good slasher.

43. Pan's Labyrinth (2006)

R | 118 min | Drama, Fantasy, War

98 Metascore

In the Falangist Spain of 1944, the bookish young stepdaughter of a sadistic army officer escapes into an eerie but captivating fantasy world.

Director: Guillermo del Toro | Stars: Ivana Baquero, Ariadna Gil, Sergi López, Maribel Verdú

Votes: 703,229 | Gross: $37.63M

Why is this so far down on the list? Well, cause I was wondering whether to put this on the list at all. To begin, this is my second favourite movie of all time, and I'll keep this short even though I want to rant on and on about it. Pan's Labyrinth is in Spanish (so here come the subtitles) and is more of an adult-type fairy tale, with realistic elements of life merged with fantasy and horror. It grabs you in emotionally, not only with the storyline but with the characters. Horror aspects include the Pale Man, I suppose the toad, in a sense, and there are a few bits of gore scattered around as well. It doesn't overdo the horror but it doesn't underdo it either, everything is balanced. I highly recommend it.

A struggling single mother unknowingly gifts her son a doll imbued with a serial killer's consciousness.

Director: Tom Holland | Stars: Catherine Hicks, Chris Sarandon, Alex Vincent, Brad Dourif

Votes: 116,806 | Gross: $33.24M

It's a pretty entertaining film, though Chucky is somewhat a comedic character in my eyes. That doll has style~ Sooo, if you do happen to like possessed dolls then alright, go watch it. If you don't, watch it anyway, you might like it. ;D

45. Fragile (2005)

Votes: 17,531

Fragile is just one of THOSE movies. You smirk, you facepalm, occasionally your eyes might bulge while you think 'holy crap', but this film is a mixture of both good and bad.

Director: Rob Zombie | Stars: Sid Haig, Karen Black, Bill Moseley, Sheri Moon Zombie

Another display of curios idiocy. It proves you should probably stay away from places where there are rumoured to have been crazy people lurking about that are willing to f-cking kill you.

56 Metascore

Director: Greg McLean | Stars: Nathan Phillips, Cassandra Magrath, Kestie Morassi, John Jarratt

Votes: 78,386 | Gross: $16.19M

The majority of this film was actually boring like you wouldn't imagine. In the last half hour, though, you see how pro the killer is as he blows a guy's head off from far away! =D No really, the last half hour wasn't so bad.

Director: Rob Reiner | Stars: James Caan, Kathy Bates, Richard Farnsworth, Frances Sternhagen

Votes: 235,712 | Gross: $61.28M

This is more a THRILLER but you know, it's good enough. Did you know that psychopaths are hard to kill? (You probably know this after watching the Scream films) Well anyway, the moral of the story is... Don't be a good author.

Truly a film worth watching, Slither proves to be a rather original film which will often leave you thinking 'wtf' at times, but never boring you. It's actually quite hilarious at times, too, which is also a good thing. It doesn't lay back with the gore, and no doubt you'll find it...intriguing.

I can't tell you how much I laughed my head off at one certain scene at the end, but I'll leave that to you if you decide to watch it. The Host is an odd little film but definitely entertaining, uh, but...again, subtitles!!! Features a BEAUTIFUL creature who um...eats people...

Alright, you have to admit, Scream 4 is probably the best in the series after the original, it has comedy, death...a few Scream cliches but really, a great movie.

Director: David Twohy | Stars: Radha Mitchell, Cole Hauser, Vin Diesel, Keith David

Votes: 253,043 | Gross: $39.24M

I have to be honest with you, this film bored me to hell in the first half hour, then, eventually, it proved to me that it was worth waiting for. As the title suggests, there'll be a lot of darkness.

I must say, this movie was actually better than I first thought it would be. The name...I get confused occasionally with The Fog, which I've never seen but heard of. *facepalm* Anyway, hilariously unfortunate ending for one of the characters, but you know, too bad.
