Chicago – Perseverance is most likely the greatest trait, beyond talent and creation, in filmmaking. Jennifer Scott had a passion project that she co-wrote 13 years ago, and after the various stops and starts over a course of getting it off the ground, the film “Eyes Upon Waking,” went before the cameras in 2019, and is currently on the film festival circuit.
Ms. Scott co-wrote and co-directed the film, in addition to being the lead actor.
The story follows Taren, who is checked into a mental health facility following two attempts to end her life. While in the clinic, she alienates herself from the patients and staff, biding her time until she can be released. When circumstances force her to remain in place for one more weekend, she melts into compassion for her fellow patients, while still neglecting her own. As she confronts her own reality, her release is imminent. The film also features Edie McClurg,...

M3GAN, the new Blumhouse flick about a homicidal robot doll (in theaters Jan. 6), is not Hollywood’s first foray into little-girl AI.
A campy ’80s sitcom called Small Wonder followed the exploits of Vicki — an acronym for Voice Input Child Identicant — who was a child android played by Tiffany Brissette, then 10. The show was created by the late Howard Leeds, who wrote on Bewitched and The Brady Bunch. Leeds had also written on My Living Doll, a short-lived sitcom from 1964 starring Julie Newmar as a robot woman. He borrowed that premise for Small Wonder, which debuted in syndication on Sept. 10, 1985. (It aired on the newly launched Fox network from 1986 until its cancellation in 1989, then lived on in reruns.)
After a nationwide search for the role of Vicki, producers “just loved Tiffany,” says Dick Christie, who played her inventor dad, Ted Lawson, “because she could pull off that monotone for the first three seasons.

Déjà Vu!
We’ve spent spooky season checking in with an infamous psychopathic bisexual, revisiting a horrendous slasher sequel and heaping all the praise on one of the best genre films of the 2010s. Now, we’re celebrating Halloween by heading to the quaint, puritanical town of Fallwell to hang with Elvira in James Signorelli‘s camp classic Elvira: Mistress of the Dark!
In the film, horror movie hostess Elvira (Cassandra Peterson) quits her job and plans to open a show in Las Vegas. The only problem is she needs 50,000 to finance it! Luckily(?) for Elvira, her dear Aunt Morgana has taken a turn for the worse and…died, leaving Elvira her house, her dog and her recipe book. But when Elvira heads to the town of Fallwell in an attempt to sell the house, she learns that the town’s puritanical residents, led by the overly prudish Chastity Pariah...

The conservator for “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” actress Edie McClurg was granted a restraining order against an alleged abuser on Tuesday, according to documents obtained by TheWrap.
The conservatorship was set up in 2019 and is run by “Life in Pieces” actress Angelique Cabral, whose mother is McClurg’s cousin.
The documents state that Cabral is “highly concerned” about a man named Michael Ramos, who has been living with the 78-year-old character actress and previously attempted to marry her. According to the documents, he sexually assaulted one of McClurg’s caregivers, and that woman fears he might also be assaulting McClurg.

According to the filing, Ramos “finagled” his way into McClurg’s home and attempted to take her out of state to marry her, even though he knew she “lacked capacity” to consent to a marriage.

Emma Stone's currently lighting up the screen in Disney's surprisingly fun 101 Dalmatians reboot/prequel, Cruella. While doing the press tour, she did a zoom interview with Jimmy Kimmel in which she outed herself as a Planes, Trains & Automobiles super fan. She went right into Steve Martin's iconic, F-bomb-filled monologue from the John Hughes classic, absolutely nailing his classically profane tirade at a flustered car rental agency clerk (the famous Edie McClurg).…...

We love Cassandra Peterson, a smart woman who made a go of horror host work in the tough Los Angeles TV market, long after the short-lived Vampira and just a few years after the passing of Sinister Seymour. After Elvira’s Movie Macabre she got to make this lively comedy feature, and thus planted her stake in the cinema firmament while at the top of her game. I’d give it an A+ for nostalgic sentiment, a B for quality and a B+ for wit, even if the adult humor does skew a bit infantile. Well, that was part of the Elvira personality too!

There are a few roles that Edie McClurg is very well known for and if you don’t happen to know them then it’s time to get out there and finally watch a few older movies and brush up on the older actors, because honestly they’re too funny to miss and a lot of them created a few very memorable roles. Edie was actually in the original Carrie movie as one of the students that was hazing poor Carrie White and as a result had to go through a rigorous exercise routine as punishment. If you don’t remember that role then

‘Dance Til Dawn’ at 30: The Team Reflects on ‘Unusual Casting Process,’ #MeToo Relevance and DJ Dick
The spring and summer of 1988 were consumed with a writers’ strike within the film and television industry, but one project that launched in the fall came out of it unscathed: “Dance ‘Til Dawn,” an original television movie about Hoover High’s senior prom first aired on NBC Oct. 23, 1988. The movie was a who’s who of 1980s television — from Kelsey Grammer and Alan Thicke, to Christina Applegate, Tempestt Bledsoe and Tracey Gold — and its multi-generational casting allowed it to be an early pioneer of content aimed at a co-viewing audience. It was also a love letter to Los Angeles, utilizing iconic locations such as the Cocoanut Grove at the Ambassador Hotel as its soundstage. Now, 30 years after its initial release, “Dance ‘Til Dawn” also finds new relevance within the era of #MeToo and Time’s Up.

We take a look back at the history of Stephen King's first bestseller, Carrie, after Riverdale turned it into a musical.
Last year, Riverdale staged Carrie: The Musical in a very special episode that was part Glee and part horror hellstorm. It is the latest example of how Stephen King's first novel continues to resonate throughout the pop culture landscape. The reasoning for this is simple: Carrie is a universally relatable story about outsiders that has much to say about topics like bullying, revenge, teen angst, religion, and telekinetic ass-kicking..
To examine just how much of a juggernaut Carrie is, we've put together this timeline dating from the book's genesis to today to provide some context into why the tale has endured for so long.

Released 40 years ago today, Brian De Palma’s 1976 adaptation of Stephen King’s debut novel Carrie remains a masterpiece of modern horror. It is a teenage pop nightmare of a film, a dreamy exploration of horrors both real and supernatural. Expertly directed, gorgeously photographed and acted with total sincerity by a cast of then-newcomers, it remains one of the very best King adaptations despite being first out of the gate.
Know how I know De Palma’s Carrie is a brilliant adaptation and one of the best horror movies ever made? Because other filmmakers have tried adapting it three other times across three other decades: Katt Shea in 1999 (with The Rage: Carrie 2, basically a Carrie remake and the best of the lot), David Carson for SyFy in 2002 and, most recently, Kimberly Pierce in 2013. None of them come close to touching the 1976 original.

Much has been said since Robin Williams' death on Monday of his contribution to movies. Certainly, his performances in such films as "Aladdin," "Mrs. Doubtfire," and "Good Will Hunting" are likely to endear him to new fans among moviegoers for generations to come. But it's easy to forget that he also made indelible contributions to the world of TV throughout his four-decade career. Older viewers remember his starmaking turn as a lovable alien on "Mork and Mindy," but that was only one instance of many where he changed the medium in ways large and small that will continue to be felt for a long time to come. Here are some of those ways.
"The Richard Pryor Show." Imagine an era when you could have seen Richard Pryor and Robin Williams doing sketch comedy together every week in primetime. That era really happened; it lasted just four weeks in 1977. That's...

Loosely based on Hans Christian Anderson’s The Snow Queen and apparently inspired by the scenery of Norway, Frozen is the tale of a pair of royal sisters, the reclusive Elsa (Idina Menzel), who has X-Men-style ice powers and Anna (Kristen Bell), who is slightly dippy and outgoing. When Elsa accidentally reveals her wacky mutant talent at her own coronation to a shocked general public, she runs away into the wilderness and ensconces herself in a quickly whipped-up fortress of solitude, in a scene not dissimilar to Dr Manhattan’s construction of his Martian palace in Watchmen. Anna, with grumpy ice salesman Kristoff (Jonathan Groff), his reindeer Sven and a living snowman called Olaf (Josh Gad) give chase to try and bring her home and sort everything out.

The previous statement is part of an actual conversation I overheard years ago, in the 1980s in fact, in St. Louis, when I worked as a police dispatcher. The unit was the Federal Protective Service and these words were spoken by Officer Earl Berry Jr., one of the more colorful characters I have encountered in my life. In a break from usual Sunday morning screening traditions, Disney’s Frozen was preceded by a performance of one of its songs by Willemijn Verkaik, star of the West End’s Wicked. Which was quite nice. It was only a slight shame that the song had been playing over the Pa as we filed in, stealing some of Verkaik’s considerable thunder, but not to worry. Also before the film proper, we were treated to a Mickey Mouse short cartoon, which mixed traditional black and white animation with 3D trickery, which was fairly neat I guess.

Video games have had a tough time translating their success to the big screen. Even games that appear to have a logical narrative that should fit perfectly into film format tend to falter when the final product is released. Ozzy Osbourne may have originated the song “Hellraiser” on his 1991 No More Tears album, but it is probably more well known for Motorhead’s Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth cover version and subsequent music video in which Lemmy challenges Pinhead to a card game for his mortal soul.
Actually, the Motorhead “Hellraiser” is probably only slightly more well known because Ozzy never released his original version as a single; whereas Motorhead’s version was released as promotion for both their latest album at the time and the third Hellraiser flick. Hey, you never saw Ozzy Osbourne on “The Tonight Show” performing “Hellraiser” as Jay Leno provided ear plugs to the studio audience and guest Edie McClurg sat mortified on the couch.
Doug Bradley donned the make-up once more for the rather odd “Hellraiser” music video that bewilderingly intercuts footage from the film, Motorhead performing the song, Pinhead terrorizing a movie...

Reilly, Sarah Silverman, Alan Tudyk, Ed O’Neill, Mindy Kaling, Adam Carolla, Horatio Sanz, Dennis Haysbert, Edie McClurg, Roger Craig Smith, Gerald C Rivers, Rachael Harris, Stefanie Scott, Reuben Langdon and Kyle Hebert.
Wreck-It Ralph is set to hit theaters in 3D on November 2nd. Enjoy the clip!

Check out this newest posters for the upcoming animated feature Wreck-It Ralph which have been released online.
The film finds the title character (voiced by John C. Reilly) sick and tired of his repetitive, unrewarding gig as the villain of 8-bit arcade platform game Fix It Felix Jr. Day after day for years, he’s been destroying buildings, much to the disgust of the tenants, and has been rejected by all in favour of the hero, Felix (Jack McBrayer).
So Ralph decides to jump from his game to others, including first-person shooter Hero’s Duty and racing game Sugar Rush, to see if he can finally become the champion he thinks he could be. Along the way, he finds a possible new friend in fellow outcast Vanellope von Schweetz (Sarah Silverman) and learns there are worse things lurking in the arcade than low self-esteem.

Here's a great new fake commercial for Wreck-it Ralph that focuses on the magical hammer used by Fix-It Felix, Jr. that fixes everything. The new spot fits right in with the other fake ads that have been released including 1982's Fix-It Felix Jr. and 1997's Sugar Rush Speedway, and another one for Hero's Duty. This was such a great movie, and I'm excited for you to see it. It's one of the best animated movies that Disney has made in a long time.
