Old MacDonald (2017)

Short is based on STOLEN CONTENT
12 May 2022
The original script that this was based on was written in 2001, and registered with the Writers Guild of America under WGA #840501, under the title E-I-E-I-O. Since the original registration, it has been updated and registered numerous times. This content draws heavily from that script, and other incarnations of the content, including one that was shared with Crypt TV. After rejecting a pitch to produce this content, it is believed that Jack Davis, at Crypt TV enlisted Sam Milman, Peter Vass, and Daved Wilkins in plagiarizing the original content. At this time, a producer has optioned this script and a comic book publisher has signed on as well. This content was stolen, as often happens in this industry.

No 2nd or 3rd Act
23 November 2021
The set-up isn't bad. That said, coming up with a decent premise that isn't the least bit creative or inventive, isn't saying much. The 2nd Act fizzles out almost immediately, followed by an ending that clearly wasn't well thought out. Hollywood is full of writer/directors who can neither write, nor direct. I hear they are looking for a script based "solely in a bar." Hopefully, the finished project is screened in a bar... you will likely want to be drunk.

No Horror
24 February 2016
Where's the horror? This movie had all of elements you would want in a great horror movie, except there was no horror. The music was chilling. The cinematography was strong in most cases, though it was hard to distinguish exactly what you were looking at. The dialogue could use subtitles, as these accents, whether fake or real, are uttered in such a glib manner that you'll have a tough time understanding. Oh, and the prayers. Someone is saying a prayer every five minutes in this movie. I thought I was at a Jimmy Swaggart prayer-a-thon. But that's not the biggest problem. This movie sets you up with suspense, chilling music, and some interesting imagery, AND DOES ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WITH IT. Think of this as M. Night's worst movie except with no attempt to scare you. Watch it on NetFlix....not even the tiniest bit scary.

Good, not great
27 December 2010
My expectations were too high after all the hype I've read on this. I hoped to see something that would rival, or at least approach my all-time favorite Western, "Unforgiven." In my opinion, this does not approach the brilliance of that movie. The performances are all very good, and there is clearly an emphasis on witty, stinging dialog throughout the movie. I think this diminished what little tension was present in this movie. Occasionally, Jeff Bridges' character borders on slapstick, particularly when he is drunk. While this may be accurate with the book and the Directors' instruction, for me it had the effect of diluting a movie that in my opinion lacks tension. Also, I felt that Bridges' character and Damon's character had arcs, but I didn't see one in the girl's character. Also, the conclusion felt rushed, and lacked suspense. There was no gradual movement from comedy to the dramatic, just wild swings. For me, the Directors have always had a way of building suspense from very subtle but potent directing. This was clearly lacking in True Grit.

John Millea's Guide to Celluloid Disease
26 November 2010
This is the John Millea (Dirctor) how-to guide of making something that really, really stinks. I can't imagine that anyone read this script because it is just too bad to even be believed. The scheme that C. ("Don't See") Thomas Howell has to come up with in this convoluted, poorly acted, poorly directed, and poorly shot piece of celluloid disease (see, I used the title of my summary in the review) is so unbelievably stupid that I'm thinking that development execs must now be patrolling head-trauma units to find new material. They can't even get some decent looking chicks to show us some gratuitous sex in this. Did all the gyms in California shut down for some time? I thought people in California worked out. The dialogue is something you just can't even comprehend, it's so bad. Whoever the director was, please someone call John Millea and find out if he's on suicide watch, 'cause if I had made this, I'd be out on a ledge about now. What a horrible, horrible, pieced together piece of junk! John, next time you want to make something good, from a script that's won awards...call me. Oh, but you'll have to interview for the job...I mean...come on.

Lamest Ending Ever
13 November 2010
So for those of you who want to know what's wrong with Hollywood, go see this movie. Thousands of screenwriters out here, another thousand "script analysts," and Hollywood decides to produce what can only be one of the most horribly written stories ever. However, if you're looking for comedy, take heart. Because at all the wrong moments, you'll start laughing. Like when mayhem and destruction are going on all around you...time to start making out. That's what heroes do. They make out with the hot chick when the going gets tough. All these characters do is run from one potential hiding place to the next. And when they're not doing that, they argue about which potential hiding place to run to next. I hear a couple of top script analysts came in to fix this monstrosity. Who wants to bet that none of these top script analysts has ever sold a script...or ever even won a simple screen writing contest. Come on, you morons. There's a formula to these kinds of movies. Watch Independence Day and follow it. What a lame piece of garbage.

Trite, Boring, 1-Dimensional, Pointless
24 October 2010
The best thing about this movie is that I got to see the trailer for True Grit. Hopefully True Grit will execute on the premise it presented. I think Eastwood decided to channel Robert Redford for this dreadful, slow, rambling mess of a movie. For the first half hour you feel like something is about to happen, but after another half hour you realize that it's just going to play out as an eventless exposition on death. Yawn, yawn, yawn. It's almost an insult that the movie wraps up sensibly, given that nothing is ever at stake in the film, and the characters, though well-drawn, don't have anything of any importance to accomplish. I get the feeling that the people who rated this highly either: 1) have recently experienced a death, or 2) are about to experience a death. Aside from them, there is no audience or reason for this junior-high school level term paper to evolve into a script or a movie. As a produced screenwriter, I read a lot of scripts. I read a lot of good scripts. The fact that Hollywood in general can't distinguish a good script from a rambling mess is why a larger percentage of entertainment dollars is going to video games and reality shows. Nothing scary in this movie. Nothing that rises to the level of real drama. No real thrills. No revelations or truths revealed in a new manner...$50 million to produce. What a waste of studio money.

Two Story Lines - both boring!
11 July 2010
Redford could have Eastwood's status except for the fact that Redford still insists that he be the star. The man must think he still holds leading man status. He doesn't. He should employ some talent like Hilary Swank, or a Jason Ritter, and give himself a supporting role. But if you know Redford, you know his ego is too big for something like that. Many of these reviews mention his pedigree...well, movies like this didn't get him a pedigree. The Clearing is two vague, and boring non-thrillers about a guy who apparently doesn't want to live. By the time I left the theater I didn't care whether Redford's character lived or died. The movie is short on details, short on drama, short on thrills...yes, it's well-acted. So what? Just because you act well in a bad movie doesn't make it a good movie. It's just a well-acted bad movie. I don't know who reads scripts for Redford (might still be Bill Holderman), or if he does it himself, but he should trade some acting talent for reading talent.

Horribe

Warning: Spoilers
First, if the script and movie are factual to the book, who published that piece of junk? Are you kidding me? Yes, I knew Jennifer Aniston was a crook from the get go. The crook always fronts you a few bucks to make you think they're good people. Second, they both could have gone to the police and asked that their spouses not be told. It happens all the time. The mere fact that she wouldn't even go to the police and talk to them...she didn't have to file the report...that made me suspicious. At the point he was conned for $20K, why didn't he get a policeman to follow him, or get a wire? Nobody would be so stupid. I tell you, this has got to be Jennifer Aniston's best comedy yet. Hard to believe that Hollywood thinks this garbage is worthy of a budget. I've seen more compelling porn in my life. If I wrote this piece of crap, I would change my name. In fact, I'll issue a challenge to every studio head, producer out there: I can write a better thriller than this in 1 month's time. This is about as compelling as IMDb's threat to add you to a blacklist if you don't point out spoilers...OHHHHH I'm scared...

Overrated Confusing Crap
4 January 2009
You have got to be kidding me with these high ratings. Yes, it is very well shot, and does a good job in the beginning of setting a creepy tone. However, for those of you who have never written a screenplay, anyone can present some creepy images and some plot twists along the way, but if the ending doesn't wrap it all up in a sensible way, then you haven't said anything. There's no theme in this movie. The emotional level is lost because you can never really determine what is going on. Not enough information is given for me to really care. Oh, I know there's a twist somewhere, I just don't care by the time I get to it, and it isn't that good anyway. This is highly stylized crap at its finest. I gave it 3/10 because it least it did have some scary moments. Can anyone write a story that has the great ending of something like the Sixth Sense with some scarier sets? That would be a movie I want to see. Can't wait to see the director of The Uninvited try and turn this into something more than an empty shell...
