Votes: 42,702 | Gross: $1.86M

As black as it gets... but rarely as brilliant! British couple one a ship cruise run into and is spellbound by American-French man & wife with a highly unusual past... Director Polanski brilliantly brings us this unforgettable, jet-black and haunting story of love, desire... and the threat of pushing them to obsessive limits- you can almost hear the bells of doom ring as the setting of the ocean liner shifts to beautiful Paris...

Unsettling, but it's one of those rare occasions that you can't help but feel for characters that aren't necessarily instantly likeable. And therein, Coyote excels in an absolutely devastating performance! Borderlines occasionally into overt kinkyness, but always revovers... not to mention by featuring one of the best (and tragic) endings ever.

Ultra-energetic, hip-to-the-bone movie of a night in the fast lane of drug & fun-chasing california teens with a load of then- upcoming stars Not too much heart, and we've seen many tries in this genre... but few with such sass, speed, visual flair and vitality.

Many have had a go at the Pulp Fiction-ish storytelling style, but who cares if it's not original when it works as splendidly as here? Also has one of the most memorably freaked-out drug trip scenes I've seen!

Landmark horror film of California family invaded by evil spirits, that kidnap their daughter into another dimension... the TV-set!! So much more than a ghost story - in the middle of its whirpool of shocks and scares, is one of the best entertainment movies of all time!

Well-known fact by now is that this is by large Steven Spielberg's work, despite the director credit going to Tobe Hooper and this can clearly be seen in its look and feel:

The colorful production, frantic pace and absolutely gobsmacking special effects (Remember, this is mid-80-s we're talking here!) adorn and enhance its story that creates that uniquely magical mini-universe all of its own. Astonishingly well-written, it has the biggest of hearts, as no characters feel left out: The Freeling family is SO likeable and believable in their loving relationship ties, amidst the horror & fantasy elements that surround them. The supernatural investigator team is also depicted with warmth - Beatrice Straights´s endearing team leader has a wonderful speech about the spiritual world. And who can forget Zelda Rubenstein's legendary exterminator?! We also have laugh-out-loud humor (both slapstick and in dialog) galore, allowing its viewer pauses to breathe between the stirring eruptions of supernatural chaos.

Even after 27 years, it's one of those movies that I can watch repeatedly and not find a single weakness... and I refuse to even mention its sequels in the same league of quality.
