Since the first time I saw The Foot Fist Way, I have been a fan of the work of Jody Hill and Danny McBride. They have a number of other regular collaborators who are part of the wonderful work they’ve created together so far, and you can’t talk about them without also talking about Ben Best or Shawn Harwell or John Carcieri or David Gordon Green or Tim Orr or Joseph Stephens, because they’re all part of what I love about Observe and Report and Eastbound & Down and now Vice Principals. I’ll have more to say about this season once it comes to a close next week, but today, I am struck anew by why I have such a strong reaction to the films that Jody Hill has directed, and I think I finally have a handle on it. I often find myself having a strong...

You know the old saying, right? It's all fun and games until someone masturbates with a cross, experiences her head making full 360-degree revolutions, and spits up all over a priest! In cases like that you just need to find a set of some good Miracle Workers.
Bloody Disgusting is reporting that Fox has set Shawn Harwell (writer, “Eastbound & Down”) and Jeff Baena (director, Life After Beth) to pen the supernatural comedy, which is described as a buddy comedy in which an actor pretends to be an exorcist. The two jokers think it’s all fun and games until they come face-to-face with a real menace.
Michael Aguiler and Kent Alterman (A History of Violence) are producing.

The Campaign
Review by Jeff Galasso
Stars: Will Ferrell, Zach Galifianakis, Jason Sudekis, Dylan McDermott, Brian Cox, John Lithgow | Written by Chris Henchy, Shawn Harwell | Directed by Jay Roach
When it comes to easy comedy targets, ducks don’t sit around asking for it more than Us politicians. Will Ferrell, star of The Campaign, is certainly no stranger to lampooning political figures. The “Saturday Night Live” alum’s George W Bush impression has been fine-tuned to comedic perfection. It’s this knack for mocking the Republicans’ finest that has provided the inspiration for the frivolous election farce of The Campaign.
As the conservative incumbent Congressman from North Carolina, Ferrell adopts a Southern drawl for his portrayal of the womanising Cam Brady. When the evil, capitalist brothers Motch (John Lithgow and Dan Aykroyd, looking mostly out of place and happy to have a paycheque) hope to sell the local district to China,...

Pier Paolo Pasolini’S Trilogy Of Life (Criterion) Pier Paolo Pasolini was Italy’s last Neo-Realist, a product of post-ww II Europe who was fervently Catholic, openly gay, defiantly Marxist, and one of the most original voices of the 20th century’s second half. Before his brutal murder in 1975 (after the premiere of his still-controversial swan song, “Salo”), Pasolini directed a trilogy of films based on masterpieces of medieval literature: Boccaccio’s “The Decameron,” Chaucer’s “The Canterbury Tales,” and “The Thousand and One Nights (also known as “The Arabian Nights”). The three films celebrate the uninhibited, earthy, raw carnal nature of the original texts, leaving little to the imagination, but also offering Pasolini’s own very unique and pointed views on modern society, consumerism, religious and sexual mores (and hypocrisies), and an unexpurgated celebration of the human body, both male and female. Extraordinary production design by Dante Ferretti and another evocative,...

Blu-ray: The Campaign Extended Edition
You’ll laugh – once or twice.
The Campaign, starring Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis, doesn’t try for smart comedy. But it does “try” to mix political humor with the run-of-the-mill lowbrow gags that’s been pervasive in comedy for the past decade. In the words of Yoda, “Do or do not there is no try.”
There are a few chuckles, but little substance in this opportunistic, election year film, which hardly has the zing of watching The Colbert Report or The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. It’s a one-liner fest. Will Ferrell’s comedy continues to flatline like so many other SNL actors turned film stars. The Blu-ray Extended Edition strings out the one-liners for an added handful of giggles.
In The Campaign, Republican candidate Cam Brady (Ferrell) is the sole candidate North Carolina’s congressional seat. When a scandal breaks out to thwart big business’ interests,...

There is nothing particularly sharp or sophisticated in this broad political comedy about a badly behaved congressman, Will Ferrell, campaigning for re-election
With the Obama-Romney presidential contest gaining momentum, many will be asking: where, oh where, is the classic political satire that can tackle the troubled zeitgeist? Could this movie starring Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis be the one? Erm … not exactly, no. It's a broad comedy, with some outrageous gross-out laughs, directed by Jay Roach and co-written by Shawn Harwell, who contributed to TV's Eastbound and Down. The film doesn't aspire to anything particularly sharp and sophisticated, and even diehard Ferrell fans might feel he isn't exactly giving us the shock of the new. But it's entertaining. Ferrell plays the appalling Congressman Cam Brady campaigning for re-election. He's a loathsome married womaniser whose polling numbers go into freefall when a drunk-dialled wrong number accidentally places his lascivious phone message...

"War has rules, mud wrestling has rules -- politics has no rules."
--Ross Perot
This quote opens the new movie The Campaign, directed by Jay Roach of the Austin Powers and Meet the Parents series. Scripted by Chris Henchy (Land of the Lost) and Shawn Harwell (Eastbound & Down), this raunchy political comedy takes Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis through an escalating battle of wills guided by the Perot quote.
Though the humor is tongue-in-cheek, there is no pretense at subtlety in this film. Dan Aykroyd and John Lithgow play the Motch brothers, parodies of real-life industrialists the Koch brothers. Hoping to profit from the passage of unprecedented labor and environmental laws in Congress, the pair decide to back Zach Galifianakis' Marty Huggins in a race against previously unopposed candidate Cam Brady (Will Ferrell). Thus begins a rivalry that takes the pair through such incidents as baby punching and snake dancing.

Warner Bros UK. have released a new UK quad poster and three clips from director Jay Roach‘s political-comedy The Campaign, which stars Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis as rival politicians in a small congressional district in South Carolina. Ferrell plays a congressman who becomes embroiled in a public scandal, opening the door to a challenge from an unlikely Beltway outsider (Galifianakis). The film also stars Jason Sudeikis, Dylan McDermott, John Lithgow, Brian Cox, Josh Lawson, Gary Grubbs, P.J Byrne, and Dan Aykroyd,
The Campaign is set for a UK release on September 28th.
When long-term congressman Cam Brady (Will Ferrell) commits a major public gaffe before an upcoming election, a pair of ultra-wealthy CEOs plot to put up a rival candidate and gain influence over their North Carolina district. Their man: naïve Marty Huggins (Zach Galifianakis), director of the local Tourism Center. At first, Marty appears to be the unlikeliest possible choice but,...

Chicago – Will Ferrell makes several new proclamations loud and clear: he’s a comic dream-team duo with Zach Galifianakis in “The Campaign,” punching a baby and then a dog are seriously funny and real-life politics should take a lesson from this over-the-top smear campaign. Also, you need one supporting Korean weapon and there’s nearly no such thing as a 100% comedy that delivers on 100% of its comedy.
Rating: 4.0/5.0
Starting and ending with what works best in this “R”-rated comedy, this and any “The Campaign” review can boil down to this: This film would have flopped without marrying Ferrell with Galifianakis and won’t simply because it did.
If you see this for no other reason than to witness this duo, these jokesmiths are as natural together as Boca burgers for a vegetarian. Seasoned comedy director Jay Roach (“Austin Powers,” “Meet the Parents”) wouldn’t have had it any other way.

It appears director Jay Roach learned a lot from 2010′s Dinner for Schmucks. Although not a film without its moments, it never came together, thanks to a series of typical weak comedy mistakes. From the tonal missteps to the structure (the dinner doesn’t happen until 90 minutes in), it was all over the place. Roach’s big screen follow-up, The Campaign, also pits together two of today’s most likable screen presences: Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis. This time around, with quick-witted material, Roach makes the best out of the two comedic weapons he’s got.
For years Cam Brady (Will Ferrell) has dominated the North Carolina congressional elections. He always wins by a landslide, thanks to never having an opponent. With reelection coming up, Cam finally finds himself an opponent capable of matching his idiocy: a pug-loving, small town boy named Marty Huggins (Zach Galifianakis). Huggins, unlike Brady, loves...

The Campaign plays like a 98-minute, R-rated episode of "Saturday Night Live" during the peak of the Presidential race. Politics are an easy target for comedy fodder and Campaign screenwriters Chris Henchy (The Other Guys) and Shawn Harwell ("Eastbound and Down") do a good job of never holding back, taking the political process to ridiculous heights while, unfortunately, avoiding the issues.
Ironically enough, the film itself is an example of how political Hollywood can be and could even be painted as hypocritical. While pointing the finger at the corporate driven world of politics, The Campaign strays from the issues to appease its Hollywood overlords in very much the same way as its two leads. While it would appear nothing is off limits as candidates bounce back from punching babies in the face, DUIs and sex tapes used as campaign commercials, any and all talking points are avoided. The bigger question,...

Pictures' comedy opens in theaters on August 10th, under the direction of Jay Roach. "The Campaign" is scripted by Chris Henchy and Shawn Harwell from the sttory by Adam McKay, Henchy and Harwell. When long-term congressman Cam Brady (Will Ferrell) commits a major public gaffe before an upcoming election, a pair of ultra-wealthy CEOs plot to put up a rival candidate and gain influence over their North Carolina district. Their man: nai¨ve Marty Huggins (Zach Galifianakis), director of the local Tourism Center. At first, Marty appears to be the unlikeliest possible choice but, with the help of his new benefactors’ support, a cutthroat campaign manager and his family’s political connections, he soon becomes a contender who gives the charismatic Cam plenty to worry about.

"May The Best Loser Win": 2 New Posters For 'The Campaign' Starring Will Ferrell & Zach Galifianakis
Is the political comedy "The Campaign" going to resonate with voters who are gearing up for the 2012 U.S. Presidential election later this year? Is this the closest thing we're going to get to a Seth Galifianakis movie? Seth, of course, being the hilarious "fake brother" character Zach Galifianakis created early on his career who is fey and effeminate and feels and sounds an awful lot like the character Galifianakis plays in this film. We'll soon find out.
Directed by Jay Roach ("Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery," "Meet the Parents") and based on a story written by Adam McKay ("Anchorman"), Chris Henchy and Shawn Harwell, "The Campaign" pits Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis against each other as two rival North Carolina politicians with presidential aspirations who tangle with one another. Jason Sudeikis, Katherine Lanasa, Dylan McDermott, John Lithgow, Dan Aykroyd and Brian Cox round out the cast.

Earlier this week we saw a couple of faux political ads turn up online for the upcoming Will Ferrell / Zack Galifianakis comedy The Campaign. As a first glimpse of the movie they were somewhat underwhelming, but they did a good job of introducing us to the two main characters, Cam Brady and Marty Huggins. Today the first official theatrical trailer for the movie has premiered over on Apple and, in my opinion, it is a significant improvement. It's obvious that this won't be a particularly "smart" political comedy like Jay Roach's HBO films Recount and Game Change, for example, but as a new Will Ferrell flick it looks pretty solid to me. The guy can still consistently make me laugh using essentially the same old schtick, and Zack Galifianakis should prove to be a worthy adversary. The script was written by long-time Ferrell collaborator Chris Henchy (The Other Guys) and Shawn Harwell,...

After getting the great first clips earlier this week from upcoming comedy, The Campaign, the first trailer has made its way online and it’s pretty excellent. Everything you’d expect from a partnership of Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis.
Jay Roach (Meet the Parents, Austin Powers) is directing from a script co-written by Chris Henchy (The Other Guys) and Shawn Harwell (Eastbound & Down, making his feature debut), with a great cast supporting Ferrell and Galifianakis, including Jason Sudeikis, Sarah Baker, Dylan McDermott, John Lithgow, Brian Cox, and the ever great Dan Aykroyd.

Whether you lean towards the right or the left, you will not be undecided about "The Campaign," which features Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis duking it out in the political arena.
Here's the catch: both of them are dumber than a bag of hammers, as the new trailer (via Buzz Sugar) makes evident with its dueling TV spots for Cam Brady (Ferrell) and Marty Huggins (Galifianakis). To give you an idea of how pandering they get, the latter's ad actually features Huggins hugging the Capital Building in D.C.
Also, in a moment straight from the George W. Bush/Dan Quayle school of dumbass, Brady tells a room full of school children that, "Schools is this nation's backbone."
As far as big summer comedies go, the team behind these two candidates is pretty formidable, including Ferrell's longtime Funny or Die partners Adam McKay ("Anchorman") and Chris Henchy, along with "Eastbound...

Led by Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis as opposing candidates in the presidential election, The Campaign brings together the two actors for the first time in leading roles for a pairing that was all but an inevitability.
Their individual blends of comedy are in many ways pretty similar, and fans of both comedians don’t have long to wait for this union, with the film due out later this year.
Warner Bros. have set up two competing Facebook pages for each of the two candidates, and the first clips have debuted with them. Vote for Cam or Vote for Marty – the choice is yours.

After hitting big with Rise of the Planet of the Apes last year, Chernin Entertainment are dramatically shifting gears for their upcoming project, with Variety reporting the production studio has hired commercial and short director Jeff Tomsic to helm a currently-untitled baby adventure movie.
Scripted by MadTV and Parks & Rec writer Katie Dippold, the project follows “babies who try to break out of a daycare center.” This synopsis gives me horrid flashbacks to 1999 and Baby Geniuses, which marks the first time I’ve thought of that movie since I was nine years-old and uneducated about anything film-related. However, Dippold does have a quality comedic background with her writing and producing, so I’m praying that this project doesn’t go down the Geniuses route.

Will Ferrell plays Cam Brady, a North Carolinian politician who goes head to head with Zach Galifianakis' Marty Huggins as they both eye the Oval Office. Joining them on the road to the White House are Jason Sudeikis, Dylan McDermott, John Lithgow, Dan Aykroyd, Brian Cox and Josh Lawson.
The Campaign is directed by Jay Roach (Meet The Parents, Austin Powers) and written by Shawn Harwell (Eastbound & Down) alongside Chris Henchy (The Other Guys), so the comedic chops clearly extend behind-the-scenes as well!

Filming has concluded on “The Campaign,” starring Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis as competing candidates in a no-holds-barred race for congress. The new comedy from “Meet the Parents” director Jay Roach is scheduled to open in theaters on August 10, 2012. The film also stars Jason Sudeikis, Dylan McDermott and Katherine Lanasa, with John Lithgow, Dan Aykroyd and Brian Cox.
In “The Campaign,” when long-term congressman Cam Brady (Ferrell) commits a major public gaffe before an upcoming election, a pair of ultra-wealthy CEOs plot to put up a rival candidate and gain influence over their North Carolina district. Their man: naive Marty Huggins (Galifianakis), director of the local Tourism Center. At first, Marty appears to be the unlikeliest possible choice but, with the help of his new benefactors’ support, a cutthroat campaign manager and his family’s political connections, he soon becomes a contender who gives the charismatic Cam plenty to worry about.

Another day, another piece of Ghostbusters 3 non-news (including that amusing rumor about a shredded script), but today Dan Aykroyd's name is popping up because of a political comedy. The vodka entrepreneur will be starring in the Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis satire Dog Fight, written by Eastbound & Down's Shawn Harwell and directed by Jay Roach. The two funnymen play rival politicos down south looking toward a seat in the White House. Aykroyd's role hasn't been defined as of yet, but as Vulture points out, it's somewhat of a return to the comedic circle since the actor has largely been favoring the booze biz over the limelight for the past several years. The film may find real-life competition when it releases in August during the end of the 2012...

In what might be considered an act of crossing the generational comedy streams, Dan Aykroyd is set to appear opposite Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis in the upcoming political comedy Dog Fight. Warner Bros. confirmed that Aykroyd, who hasn’t starred in a live-action film since 2008’s War, Inc., has joined the cast of the Jay Roach-helmed film about two rival politicians fighting for a seat in Congress, although they won’t say in what kind of role.

It feels like Dan Aykroyd hasn’t been around for a while, but that’s only because I refused to see Yogi Bear, barely noticed him as the Vice President in War, Inc. and refused (again) to see I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry. So he hasn’t been retired or anything, but it’s sure felt like it. Nevertheless, he’ll be coming out of that non-retirement for Dog Fight, the political comedy starring Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis as two South Carolinians who have their sights on the presidency. According to Movie Hole, the Oscar nominated actor is on board, but the role isn’t specified. Hopefully this won’t further delay that certain, ghost-bustin’ sequel Aykroyd has been steadily working on. I’m speaking, of course, about My Stepmother is an Alien 2. The capable Jay Roach is directing a script from Chris Henchy (The Other Guys, and...

Dan Aykroyd is the latest actor to join the cast of the political comedy Dog Fight. According to Moviehole Aykroyd is set to join Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis, who star as “two rival politicians running for a congressional seat in a small North Carolina district election.”
The film is being directed by Jay Roach (Austin Powers, Meet the Fockers) based on a script by Chris Henchy and Shawn Harwell. The film also stars John Lithgow, Jason Sudeikis, Dylan McDermott, Sarah Baker, and Katherine Lanasa.
I think that Aykroyd will make a great addition to the cast. Although it's been awhile since I've seen him in a movie I actually liked. In recent years the main thing he's been talking about is this Ghostbusters 3 film that seems like it will never happen. What are your thoughts?...

It seems that the movie to be in these days is Jay Roach‘s new political-comedy, Dog Fight. With Jason Sudeikis, Will Ferrell, Zach Galifianakis, John Lithgow, Dylan McDermott and Brian Cox already starring, Moviehole tells us that funnyman Dan Aykroyd has joined their ranks.
Chris Henchy and Shawn Harwell script details a comedy about “two rival politicians (Ferrell and Galifianakis) running for a congressional seat in a small North Carolina district election.” We’re not sure who Aykroyd is playing, but I’m sure whatever part it is, it will show off his Southern charm we’ve seen many times before. Political comedy isn’t foreign territory for him, by the way; he recently mimicked President Jimmy Carter in Funny or Die’s Presidential Reunion sketch. Galifianakis will also produce under the Everyman Pictures banner, with Ferrell and Funny or Die’s Adam McKay, through Gary Sanchez Productions.

Any actor putting themselves next to Chris Evans has a big challenge in winning the audience’s attention, but a slightly inexperienced one like Mark Kassen is especially hard-pressed. This was the task he faced in this year’s Puncture, a film he also co-directed with his brother, Adam, and he somehow completed it with general success.
He’s now getting a starring role for himself: Variety reports that the actor will lead Stars, an indie drama directed by Derrick Borte and written by Jim Janosky. Their story tells us that the plot follows “a man who decides on his birthday to kill himself, but his disregard for life takes a turn en route to his demise.” So it’s light, you see.
The film also stars Puncture‘s Vinessa Shaw, along with Kathryn Hahn, Tom Bower, and Illeana Douglas. Produced by LLeju Productions and Storyland Pictures, the project is currently shooting in New Mexico.
