Very entertaining first two episodes so far

Greetings from Lithuania.

First two opening episodes of "Orange Is the New Black" were very entertaining. I loved the writing - it is funny, realistic and very involving. Characters are 3 dimensional, sharply written. Acting is top notch by all involved, especially by the lead Taylor Schilling and supporting stuff is also great.

Overall, so far i enjoyed "Orange Is the New Black" more then i thought i would. It is also superbly directed show first two episodes of which were superbly paced - at running time ~50 min. each they didn't drag and were entertaining from start till finish. Highly recommended.

A good episode

I watched the second episode of this season, trying to raise enough ridiculous enough for a little money. Some places got a real smile, but some places didn't. The story of Red that is being shown here could have been made a little bigger than what is being shown here, and acting could be said to be over-acting in some cases. The music is better than the previous episode. The song that was used last sounds good. Writers and good work have been noticed, the small story roses that have been added to the main story have been done very cleverly. The director has shown remarkable work. There is a little feminist touch to the story. Overall a good episode.

A good start so far

Warning: Spoilers
Before getting right into the review I have to mention the opening, the fact that it uses real life female prison inmates I still find really interesting as it helps differentiate the show from a lot of others as well giving the show a a bit more substance due to the fact it's based on true events.

On with the review, in this episode we see a lot more flashback sequences which give development to certain characters. I found the flashbacks interesting but also a little heavy handed in places but essentially did what they were supposed to do which was add development to characters in the show.

There was good humour in this episode which helped balance out a lot of the serious aspects that were happening in the show such as, piper being starved by the other inmates. A lot of the characters remain essentially unlikable, one of the prison wardens in particular and Piper's ex-girlfriend, Alex. It does however remain unclear at this point whether they will be given development which might shed some light on the reason for their behaviour but that is something I'd definitely want to see in future episodes.

Lastly with the how the episode ended it seems that the narrative is going to address more of the taboo subject matters in the show e.g. Lesbianism although opting for a comedic exploration of it by using the character of Sue(Crazy eyes.) I think its good for the show to explore this due the fact Piper the main character used to identify as a lesbian and it's known in the prison that acts of lesbianism are not uncommon. I look forward to the next episode.

Great show to start watching.

Warning: Spoilers
Orange is the New Black surpasses the typical TV shows as it gives the audience something different to watch. The second episode of Orange is the New Black focuses on a different person in prison, from the first episode so it's not always portraying one main character, it changes every episode. This is great because it gives insight to the different characters lives and the reason why they ended up in prison. The whole series focus on real-life inmates so it gives people a different view into what really happens behind closed doors (prison life) and the different stories of how people ended up in prison. However it feels like when the episode is telling someone's story it drags before it gets to the persons backstory. The flashbacks where incorporated well throughout the show giving understanding. Kate Mulgrew's portrayal of 'Red' was nicely executed, especially in the flashback when we see her trying to be accepted into the 'Russian women/wife' group and the things she went through for other people.

Orange is the new black

Warning: Spoilers
This is going to bey slightly brief review of the second episode of popular web series Orange is the new black. The start of the second episode defiantly improved since episode one as the story from within episode one carries over to episode two. The story "Mini story" between episode one and two is very interesting as it contains lots of drama , and is short yet effective as it incises the audience as well as following the main story. The "Mini Story" also is very meaningful as it hows us some of the back story of one of the main antagonist at the time in the story and why she acts the way she does. The story itself between the first two episodes follows the Todorov theory as there is a problem beginning in episode one, secondly there is a disruption , then there is a climax but in this case a confrontation, and then there is a slight resolution (spoiler) when piper gives red the homemade back creamed finally when piper returns to eating at every meal time. However at the end of episode two we see a female who offered piper help , have her food rights restricted by Red which leave the audience on a cliff hanger and makes them wonder what she will have to do in order to get her food rights back form Red.

good at tackling issues
connor-lynch14 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
How do we as a society, tackle contemporary issues about sex and race?

Orange is the new black tackles this perfectly, and challenged the tags attached to women and not just women in general, blonde women, black women, Russian and more. In this episode, the title comes from a moment in one of the narrative flashbacks of Red, and she 'tit punches' a stereotypical Russian housewife and deflates her breast. It challenged the ideology of 'fake' Russian women with their plastic surgery their rich husbands pay for.

There is a lot of focus on Red, as the fairly weak storyline from the first episode consisting of her starving Chatman is continued. As a viewer, I felt that this storyline should have ended last episode, as it is something where the resolution could be sped up. I feel that there is no enigma so it shouldn't have gone on for this long.

Overall I would give this 6/10, because I like how it turns modern day societies issues into comedy and makes people talk about them. I also like how it is a majority female cast, challenging yet another stereotype associated with prison dramas.

An interesting and humorous stance on challenging themes

Warning: Spoilers
Orange is the New Black's second episode 'Titpunch' successfully sets an entertaining and fascinating opening for the rest of the season as vulnerable protagonist Chapman discovers the malicious intentions of her fellow inmates while we discover more about the plight of mysterious Russian character Red. Despite the generally negative and aggressive representation of female prisons and jails in documentary 'The Jail: 60 days in', Orange is the New Black humorously presents the environment as one of malicious intent which ends in comical and unpredictable consequences. It is without a doubt that Orange is the New Black casts a charming mist over the bleak realities of prison life which makes for enjoyable light entertainment.

'Titpunch' explores a range of themes and dominant ideologies and presents them in a comical manner - often mocking common stereotypes. Its representation of the naïve American housewife through pitied protagonist Chapman depicts how her naivety to her inmate's lack of morals in jail lands her in awkward and unforeseen circumstances. Although Chapman wants to fight back, she is hysterically ignorant on how to do so in the prison environment, and she contemplates whether getting intimate with her nemesis Red or fighting her will resolve the conflict she is in. Therefore,'Titpunch' also represents the stereotypes of lesbians, with Chapman's ex-lesbian partner preying on her weakness in desperation to get her back and destroy her current relationship with her husband.

Flashbacks are skilfully and intelligently used throughout this episode - showing the crucial development of the inmates before they were sent to prison and after. This fantastic utilization of the flashback technique shows how the prison environment drives the characters beyond the common characteristics of their stereotypes and into the aggressive and power hungry stereotype of a female inmate in an American jail.

Overall, 'Titpunch' provides an interesting and entertaining narrative for protagonist Chapman and her antagonistic Red.

it's... meh

Warning: Spoilers
'Tit Punch' is the second episode from the Orange Is The New Black web-series. in this episode it explores the stereotypical views of say, Russian women and men it is also rather drawn out.

The almost never-ending 'beef' between Red (stereotypical towards Russians) and Piper seemed to run over more than one episode when it could've been shortened into one but that's not to say it wasn't interesting. After Piper accidentally insults Red's cooking, Piper is made victim to bullying from Red who 'starves' her by not serving her food, and this is drawn out over both episode 1 and 2 and could be shortened.

OITNB explores the stereotypes of Russian men and women well in all honesty, it's not offensive and it is rather humorous at some points like in the flashbacks for Red when walking with her friends all her friends are very stereotypically dressed in 'housewife' apparel and have fake breasts and just generally look like a rich mans wife. With Russian men it does show them as brute gangster like people when they ( spoiler alert)hide a body in the meat freezer in one of the flashbacks.

Creative plot line and story concept
KatieSMcDonnell10 November 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I believe that within the Netflix series 'Orange is the new black' the acting believability, as well as the story concept was intriguing and entertaining. The series explores the stereotypical identity of many of the female inmates, which is unique and diverse to other series as there are not many TV shows around like this.

Within the episode 'Tit Punch' flashback sequences were used a lot to enhance the audiences understanding, of the past circumstances and events that had caused their current situation. The use of this technique was creative, as well as important throughout the episode- as it was able to inform the audience what the characters were like before they were sent to prison. Overall, I found the second episode intriguing and unique- through the different techniques used throughout the episode. Which I hope will continue to be used throughout the rest of the series.

Warning: Spoilers
My initial thought about the web series orange is the black is of the following in my opinion i personally feel like the first two episodes were very well presented due to the fact the main protagonist (piper chapman) kind of counter typed from the stereotype of all blonde women being dumb, clueless, and unaware of whats happening. As in the show she is seen to be quite smart yet shows some elements of naitivity this is evident by the fact in the show when she says "i read your not suppose to answer those question" this suggest that she is trying to adapt to prison the way it says in book. On the other hand, in parts of the show she can be seen adhering to blonde American lady by saying "by the time I'm out there will be 5 new generations of i phones" this implies that she is a mainstreamer meaning that she wants to keep up with the latest trends just like all common American white middle aged women. The entire web series kind of steers from women prison for example the main the protagonist is white however, in our day and age its normally black females who are in prison. Furthermore we meet pipers ex girlfriend Alex vause (Laura Prepon) she is the one who she originally committed the crime with which ultimately made her go to jail. Alex and piper had a lesbian relationship behind her boyfriends back "jew boy" Jason biggsl Larry bloom.
